Clemmie Hooper Facing Midwifery Misconduct Hearing

I've not yet seen any other threads on this.

It's not yet clear why there's a heating but it would be interesting to read the decision by the Nursing and Midwifery Council when it's posted online. The hearing ends 8th March.

I'm wondering if the racism she trolled with played out in her work?

That's interesting, I was wondering what had happened to her the other day when her husband popped up in my Instagram suggested feed. Where did you read about the hearing?

is that Mother of Daughters? she had quite the fall from grace. it would make an excellent book or film on the perils of exploitation and greed

was she the one who made a fake profile to troll herself and her husband ?

She trolled both her husband and other people using a false persona. He may have been in on it though as otherwise how has their marriage survived!

I had no idea about this woman until now - she sounds like an absolute nightmare!

I know , i dont think my DH would have liked to see that. They prolly 'worked through it' together. I think she just clearly got so caught up in her own image, being a 'celebrity' can really ruin someone. I actually bought her book when i was preg, i followed her on instagram. I didnt really mind her, not like all the other mum celebs on instagram these days lol

She trolled and racially abused a woman of colour she interviewed as part of a midwifery podcast. Damn straight she should be disciplined! She looked down her nose at anyone she deemed to be beneath her and I sure as hell wouldn't want her anywhere near me as a woman in pregnancy/labour

I think their marriage survived purely because he’s as awful as she is. Still exploiting he’s children online, particularly the one with diabetes. Poor kid.

Oh , i didnt see the racist bit, i should maybe google her. Yes i agree, i think any woman or family, knowing what shes said wouldnt want or feel comfortable around them. If midwifery (which i assume) follow same codes of conduct then the hearing will likely be down to the racism etc as thats a massive no no in the nhs and care setting. They will prolly be setting an example out of her and also maybe her instagram/ celeb status may have infringed on some of the GDPR or social media stuff in the employee contract. Im a nurse and we are constantly reminded of this sort of stuff

She also sailed quite close to the wind sometimes in what she promoted, given that she was so clear that she was an NHS midwife.

They’re a horrible couple. Obviously the NMC has to make its decisions based on evidence and professional guidelines but I do hope they decide that she needs to stay off Instagram. He’s bad enough.

I can't believe she got to keep her job as a midwife after everything. Imagine knowing how horrible and judgemental she could be online and then seeing her walk in as your midwife during one of your most vulnerable times.

She's on here and has replied to threads before as herself when influencer topics have come up.

I’d love to know how she could possibly explain herself. And she still creeps into her husband’s page so clearly doesn’t feel she should be sorry off what she did, or she’d stay off Instagram altogether.

Yikes. Her ‘fall from Grace’ is really embarrassing to witness. There’s no coming back from what she’s done, it’s horrendous.

Given that women of colour are five times more likely to experience serious complications during child birth, I think the NMC should tear Clemmie Hooper apart. Arrogant racism like this must be stopped. Clemmie used to regularly pose in her midwifery scrubs wearing the jewellery she was being paid to advertise. Also when she was in hospital with her poorly DD, but took a moment to advertise her new Dempsey & Desmond pyjamas. It was just so very inappropriate and unprofessional. She deserves every bit of censure she gets. How the mighty are fallen.

Not sure how it's taken this long for a hearing tbh. Seems like an age ago all this happened. The husband always refers to her with great fondness on his page, then follows all the comments "we miss Clemmie, being Clemmie back" etc

Pandemic backlog, at a guess. And these things usually do take time to work through.

I'd assume it's about the racist stuff though. I recall people saying at the time she was getting reported.

I appreciate covid backlog and all that but surely they can’t discipline her after all this time? It’s literally been years since it happened. Disciplinaries need conducting in a timely manner for them to stand up

I'm not aware of any time limit this would fall foul of.

Maybe nothing in statute but I wouldn’t fancy my chances as an employer in an unfair dismissal tribunal defending why I’d dismissed an employer years after the offence. I know which way that would go! It totally flies in the face of a natural sense of justice and weakens the case for action to be taken if it’s been sat on for years without doing anything.
Not saying Clemnie is being dismissed of course, but the principles of disciplinary action and warnings are the same.
in fact, having said that, I’m sure there is case law to show that “out of time” disciplinary action doesn’t stand up, but I haven’t got time to look now, I will do later

If they were really going to remove her pin etc they would have had to strike her off in the interim. I think it'll be a slap on the wrists- shes a well educated woman and will have the correct advice and support of a union to talk and apologise her way out of it.
Ultimately we are chronically short of midwives so they won't strike off a practicing midwife if they can help it.
It's sad- her and her husband come across as grabby. They do have a gorgeous house though!

Absolutely, just the other day I was just thinking about her and what she thinks of it all and what she’s doing now. Can’t believe her marriage has survived tbh, although maybe he’s as bad as her! Gobsmacking!
