Clemmie Hooper Facing Midwifery Misconduct Hearing

I've not yet seen any other threads on this.

It's not yet clear why there's a heating but it would be interesting to read the decision by the Nursing and Midwifery Council when it's posted online. The hearing ends 8th March.

I'm wondering if the racism she trolled with played out in her work?

Her husband continues to sell the kids out online, constantly posting about one of the elder daughters diabetes. I mean, I just cannot imagine being a teenager going through quite a scary time with a serious medical issue and my dad telling the world and using it to make money. Its awful. Any influencer who uses their kids for content should be banned.

It was context. She’d had Candice Brathwaite on the podcast she was doing at the time, talking about people’s birth experiences. Candice is a fairly prominent Instagram woman of colour who had been talking a lot about her own traumatic experience of giving birth, and about the 2018 report about substantially worse outcomes for black mothers and babies. On the podcast of course Clemmie had been all concern.

So for her then to be on Tattle, saying Candice ‘plays the race card’ and gets aggressive gave it the appearance of her not really giving a shit about any of it AND playing into a racist trope.

Candice is quite a divisive figure as she has a slightly murky past in the sex industry, but I can imagine how very hurtful she would have found this whole episode, and very much felt it was racially motivated.

His speciality of course, going back years, is to post pictures of his kids unwell/being treated by paramedics/in hospital.

FOD cannot let go and I think clemmie encouraged him to continue as making a tit of yourself and exposing your kids, is a money spinner. Although they haven't had a free holidays since!

they built up a brand, she was incredibly popular the 'queen bee' and fecked it all up - oh the shame!

I just can't fathom how he has so many followers, he seems so unlikable. Unless they are all just creepy people who enjoy seeing (what should be) the private lives of his young daughters..

However, it makes me wonder who the mystery person was that outed Candice to her brand partner about her past. It wasn't long after Clemmie being found out, was it?

Yeah but Candice wasn't a sex worker herself, she was pimping other women out, that was my understanding anyway. No excuse for that.

Hmm @hothands I wonder if the enquiry sees any evidence that she'd read and shared 'we need to talk about race, therefore was educated in racism BEFORE choosing to describe a black person as 'playing the race card'. That would be damning evidence against her.
Unless, of course, she didn't read it at all and was just jumping on the bandwagon....

No sympathy for Clemmie, but I can't see any action taken against her from NMC if she's facing racism allegations. It was a stupid comment to make, but I can't see them amounting that to a direct risk of harm to future patients.
I used to really like Candice, but she's all about the dollar now. I remember the Jody Marsh documentary she was in (the one that was 'outed') and she was a pimp with a business model to make herself very rich, she certainly wasn't a vulnerable woman trying to feed herself.

The NMC also uphold public interest which includes things like actions which might make the public less likely to seek healthcare if they believe the professions hold certain views.

it's probable they are purchased bots. there was a weird response to one of his posts a while back where there was a clamoring to "bring back clemmie" but they had ALL misspelled her name in the exact same way. i don't know how bought followers work but it caught my eye as being odd (i don't follow him, he just haunts my feed for some reason)

@SoCrossAboutThis what she said, whilst not pleasant, is not indicative of bad character within the medical profession. If she had called her a derogatory name for example, that would have been different.

It was racist, she claims she didn’t know it was racist but realises now it was. So that’s why there’s a hearing. If the nmc decide she was knowingly racist then that is not good character. Even without the racism they can decide that trolling people on the internet is not good character.

@imlateasusual if she's found guilty of being racist then of course it's indicative of bad character in the medical setting. Racists are racist in every setting they are in. Read the MBRRACE-UK reports on maternal outcomes & race.

Wasn’t there a TV show where she talked about it herself? Or am I misremembering?

Yes @MarmadukeSpillageEsquire that's my point, I'm not sure that what she said in isolation constitutes racism within the workplace. She held the belief that a person 'played the race card'. By itself that doesn't make someone racist. Obviously against the context of CB's birth story and the stats on Black maternal health then this is a very insensitive thing to say and implies that she didn't believe Candice's health complications were directly related to her race (which of course no one can prove) but from a legal POV it might be hard to ascertain by that alone that she's of bad character.
