Just been to Tesco before work and there are literally NO eggs..... not even the really expensive ones they do.......

I am now going to make DH go to every single shop until he finds some, as the day cannot end until we've had pancakes!

Yes the mix is really good. Or else you could try a farm shop. I'm greatful for our hens today!!

Maireas · 21/02/2023 07:24

There seem to be plenty where I am - we don't seem to have the shortages we hear about where I live.
There were plenty yesterday in m&s foodhall - I know you're on a budget, but just buy those? They also had a lot in the co-op.
Good luck!

I'm having my Asda delivered today. I've ordered eggs for the same reason. Odds of me receiving eggs???

Plus there were no tomatoes in stock. Non whatsoever!!!

I read this morning about a tomato shortage

Thank you
DH is going to nip to the lady a couple of villages over and get some from her.

I tend to have a shaker one in the cupboard in case of emergency pancakes needs. I saw loads on the shops on Saturday, so you might be in luck. If you like banana, try mashing one into the mix instead of egg.

@MooBaby
Cheers for the compassion shown there.... clearly you aren't being affected by the cost of living crisis!

Can't believe you've been to Tesco already today! I haven't even brushed my hair yet. I also haven't got any eggs in, or any other pancake paraphernalia!

I am. And it's shit you can't get eggs. But it's not the shops fault.

R0ckets · 21/02/2023 07:29

To be honest if finances are that tight that until today you couldn't afford eggs maybe this year you skip the pancakes altogether. It seems a touch daft to spend money you don't have on something so unnecessary.

TheDead · 21/02/2023 07:30

Maireas · 21/02/2023 07:30

Again, we've been able to get tomatoes just fine. Don't get yourself anxious, we live in a society of plenty! Some areas seem to get supply issues, but I'm sure you can get what you need, so please don't start to stress about it.
I hope you get the eggs and have fun tonight!

dudsville · 21/02/2023 07:30

There's some smug/rough responses here. The most random posts attract a pile on. My guess is that some folks need to vent and their responses are not about OP's eggs.

OP, hope you find your eggs or an alternative!

Mardyface · 21/02/2023 07:31

Eggs not in short supply here. Some people just love to put the boot in. As if it's normal for eggs or any other food to be scarce or for people you be unable to afford them! It's because we've got an absolutely appalling government.

Hope you find eggs and enjoy your pancakes OP.

hotfuzzball · 21/02/2023 07:31

To be honest with half term and everything I didn't realise it was pancake day today until a couple of days ago. Needed eggs in the shop anyway, there wasn't any in Aldi but plenty in the Booths next door. I don't think I have enough flour so might have to head out myself!

Tonnes of ready made bottles of mix everywhere though although they seem a bit wasteful to me.

You are a joy aren't you....
finances are tight, but my kids still need to eat, and pancakes will be their pudding tonight

Because the kids would be disappointed?

Why are people buying things for pancake day? The very point of the day is to use things up, not buy stuff you don't have Confused

As others have said, just make eggless pancakes, or have them another day when you can get some eggs.

I bought some in M&S on Sunday - their 15 mixed eggs for £2.50 are probably some of the cheapest supermarket free range eggs available.

Can't keep eggs in this house, DH eats multiple eggs daily if we have them! And the flour has been sitting a while and will probably have friends living in it.

@R0ckets what a pointless comment

I've also walked the dog and am now heading out the door to work! I'd much rather be sat on the sofa with a cuppa!

Didn't realise food was an unnecessary expense these days. That's Tory Britain for you!

77toozy · 21/02/2023 07:34

No egg issues here in London

Im just trying to put it into perspective. Look many of us are also affected by the cost of living crisis and unfortunately that means sometimes my child has to go without. I'm sure your children would be fine without pancakes and won't want you trekking here there and everywhere using petrol just to get eggs. I know living payday to payday is crap I'm doing it and I'm just trying to reassure you it's not important.

MooBaby · 21/02/2023 07:35

Workinghardeveryday · 21/02/2023 07:32

Because the kids would be disappointed?

It depends how tight finances are but yes they may be disappointed. I've had to disappoint my family as money has been tight.

Anyway, OP if you can get the premixed stuff that might actually be cheaper than a pack of eggs at the moment so worth looking for that.

I do hope you get your pancakes as they clearly mean a lot to you and I'm sorry my post was a bit harsh. I'm struggling myself so do understand sometimes it's the little things.

Next year if its important to you then try and allocate an egg budget.

GGMTJ · 21/02/2023 07:35

The very point of the day is to use things up, not buy stuff you don't have

This only makes sense if you’re planning not to consume eggs, flour and milk in Lent. I’m guessing that’s not the case for most of us.

It’s supermarkets refusing to pay their egg suppliers enough to cover rising energy costs so many suppliers are giving up.
Not surprised it’s Tesco in this case.
