The secret things you do that no-one else knows....

Every day that DP is out of the house at work, I buy an early-afternoon energy drink. They are rancid, sugary, unhealthy and downright common as muck but I absolutely love the buzz I get for the rest of the day. DP would be appalled with me if he found out 😅

My MN habit is a secret too. I don't have children, and I'm meant to have a professional, busy job which doesn't allow time for fucking about online. But here I am. I'm friends with a lot of women with young children who regularly talk about things being discussed on MN. I feign surprise or interest but I'm really thinking "Yeah, I saw that".

When I'm stressed and home alone, I talk to myself. I talk myself through what's getting me down, why, and what I need to do. I also reassure myself saying things like "Pull yourself together, it's fine, make a list and let's start at the top". I have no shame about this, I think its a perfectly normal thing to do. Except that I talk to myself in random accents. Today I went inexplicably scouse. My temporary foreign accent syndrome is the reason I keep this particularly activity a secret.

Tell me your secrets....

BTW, long-timer but NC just in case!

Binge eat 🙈

I post on several different forums and have a different personality on each of them.

BlondeBombshelf · 16/02/2023 11:13

I like turning the music up loud and doing the cha cha slide, Macarena and YMCA. Basically, anything with actions 😆 😆

This reminds me that years and years ago I used to sometimes leave work early, get home, bolt the door, close the curtains, put some music and just have a dance around like I was 18 again. I mean pretend I was in a club. Pretend I was 18 again.

Great fun.

MN is my guilty secret

and chocolate

I eat chocolate and hide the wrappers under my mattress, then regularly clear it out when the house is empty - straight into the communual bin

MollyMack · 16/02/2023 11:25

I love it!😄
Noone knows I'm on mumsnet either and I'm constantly name changing so I don't get found out 😂 I'm always wondering who else is on here that I know IRL👀
I slept with someone inappropriate whilst blind drunk and neither of us have ever told a soul or mentioned it afterwards. It's like it just never happened and I have driven myself a bit mad sometimes thinking, did it even happen?! I've even questioned if it was rape because I wasn't exactly fit to have sex. That was years ago but still plays on my mind sometimes. I've never told a soul.
Also I ralk to myself as well and high five myself in the mirror for a boost 😂

I watch YouTube videos of people having their ingrown toenails removed. Can you imagine admitting to that in real life?!

Mars27 · 16/02/2023 11:28

I have a cleaner that comes every two weeks on Thursdays which is the only day of the week that my husband works at the office. He has zero idea.

Suits me just fine ;)

Oooops, that’s the wrong thread!

Fentylipgloss · 16/02/2023 11:33

Cry and pray for death.

Frt · 16/02/2023 11:33

LOL @WeCome1 That's one hell of a secret 😂

@larchforest

Thats hilarious!

Is it deliberate? How do you keep it up?

IsItBedtimeYetNope · 16/02/2023 11:34

I snap my spaghetti in half instead of fannying around getting it in the pan whole like I used to. No one has noticed yet.

You would get on with my mum. As well as ingrown toenails, she also likes videos of earwax clearing and blackhead removals. She does not keep her strange YT habits a secret though and, in fact, shares 'the best ones' with me 😱

When I'm alone I do the most crazy over the top make up (like I would never wear out or in front of DH) - think Glow Up but not that level of expertise - false eyelashes, outrageous lips, weird designs - then take selfies to see if I can take just one that looks good - then I delete them all and wash it all off. It's marvellously therapeutic for me transforming into someone totally different just for myself. But when DH comes home I'm back to being me.

I'd never tell my girlfriends, they'd think I was mad! 😜😁

Genius!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/02/2023 11:36

@CharlieSays13 I like those videos as well. The relief the person must feel!
I still run upstairs on all fours. I have to stop myself doing it at work.

That sounds brilliant. If I was your friend, I wouldn't think it was mad. I'd want to hear more and see the results.

I love the idea of a secret cleaner!

I tend to eat things I shouldn't when alone. Far too much junk food! I also pretend to be working when I am on MN.

Biffatcrafts · 16/02/2023 11:40

Aww, thanks @Frt .. but I'm 62 and most of my friends think wearing a lot of very noticeable make up is for the young and beautiful - and that is definitely not me 🤣🤣

Gingernaut · 16/02/2023 11:45

I watch restoration videos on YT.

I ❤ when they get the sandblasters out, but hate it when they 'restore' something for display purposes.

I want to see it good as new and working dammit!

On a night shift, I clean the office keyboards and rummage through the rubbish for stuff to recycle.

You need new friends.

Joke.

But seriously, there's a difference between wearing very noticeable make-up out and about at 62, and doing it at home just for fun to relax and hone your skills.

Having said that, I don't think there's an age-limit on wearing very visible make-up (or wearing particular kinds of clothes or having particular kinds of hair etc.). If it makes you feel good, do it, fuck the haters.

@Frt you make a very good point! I'm going to work on building that attitude 😃
