The secret things you do that no-one else knows....

Every day that DP is out of the house at work, I buy an early-afternoon energy drink. They are rancid, sugary, unhealthy and downright common as muck but I absolutely love the buzz I get for the rest of the day. DP would be appalled with me if he found out 😅

My MN habit is a secret too. I don't have children, and I'm meant to have a professional, busy job which doesn't allow time for fucking about online. But here I am. I'm friends with a lot of women with young children who regularly talk about things being discussed on MN. I feign surprise or interest but I'm really thinking "Yeah, I saw that".

When I'm stressed and home alone, I talk to myself. I talk myself through what's getting me down, why, and what I need to do. I also reassure myself saying things like "Pull yourself together, it's fine, make a list and let's start at the top". I have no shame about this, I think its a perfectly normal thing to do. Except that I talk to myself in random accents. Today I went inexplicably scouse. My temporary foreign accent syndrome is the reason I keep this particularly activity a secret.

Tell me your secrets....

BTW, long-timer but NC just in case!

I talk to my house as if it's a person. I'm not normally woo (but seem to be increasingly so as unexplainable things keep happening).

When we moved in, we had lots of issues. It's hard to explain but it was as if the house was fighting us. The people before us had not looked after it and had done dangerous bodges etc.

As soon as I started explaining out loud what we were doing and why, things really seemed to improve. That progressed to asking permission (although what I expect back I don't know!) and thanking the house.

I would never tell anyone I do this! 🤣

Cry and pray for death.

I’m sorry you are feeling so rubbish. I hope some inner well of strength comes and gives you a hug soon. 💐

DP was in a band years ago and sometimes when he is working away I listen to his music or watch his vids on youtube. He has NO idea cos I always told him I was not all that impressed but I do love to sit and swoon at him all cute in his 20's with hair etc and have a bit of a bop. They were not famous by any stretch but known in some circles and he has never ever known how much I googled him even before our first date. We are years together now and I never let it slip lol

When I finish a really good book I give it a kiss and a hug and say thank you. I’ve always done it so must have started as a little kid.

My daughters are very very into barbies, they take them very seriously, I never had them as a child but I loved playing with them at friends houses.
They ask me to play pretty much everyday and I love it, its so fun.
I wouldn't tell anyone in real life except my girls, but we have whole soap opera style backstories for the barbies and the stories roll over into the next day. We recently bought some action men from the charity shop to add more characters.

Currently Poppy is lying to Millie about who stole her purple handbag- it was actually her sister Rainbow who threw it in the stables because she was annoyed at her for not making enough spaghetti and meatballs for everyone at the birthday party etc

Its fully mad and I would never admit how much I actually enjoy it.

I have conversations with the cat. I accidentally started chatting to her in front of DC once; DC thought I'd gone crazy.
Everyone talks to their cat or dog as if they're a person, right?

I do something similar with all books, not just good ones. It's like I finish a book and I have all these thoughts about it which overwhelm me and I have to express them aloud. So I'll finish a book and then spend a few minutes saying to the cover things like "I didn't enjoy you all that much, I thought your characters were very 2D and your story...."
I think its because I've never had anyone to share my opinions on books with. No-one in my house growing up was a big reader and my DP doesn't enjoy reading. So I'm just kind of in a book club by myself. LOL.

Put ‘my music’ on during cleaning and sing and dance to it… in the style of the actual singer…it’s so awful that the dog cries to be let out!😁

Eat tinned crap like stews, biscuits or choclate

Mumsnet for hours, whilst watching shite on tv

Pretend to have done housework (and hope nobody opens the cupboards)

Have naps in bed as often as possible

Pretend to feel ‘ off colour’ to avoid boring visits to relatives, or mucky jobs like going to the tip… then when they’ve gone out to do the jobs, I do any - or all - of my above list… usually Mumsnetting or napping!

Not sorry 😁

Very much so. I always talk to my dog like she's another fully grown woman. And I don't just mean at home 😳

Just thought of another one… I do ballet moves in the hall in front of the mirror… I last did ballet properly (as in classes) in 1977😱 I’m nearly 60 and not as dainty or supple as I was… it’s not a pretty sight, but I love it!😁

Do weird faces to myself when no one else is there. Also, I'd do the same when I was wearing a mask and no one could see...

I write fanfic - I've written entire novels of the stuff and have an ongoing massive project. When people ask me what I got up to last night/ in my time off it's really awkward because I can't account for the time.

I do this too. I thank her and tell her I'm grateful. I explain changes or if I'm doing cleaning and warn her when the window cleaners are coming.

Only when we are alone 😆
