The secret things you do that no-one else knows....

Every day that DP is out of the house at work, I buy an early-afternoon energy drink. They are rancid, sugary, unhealthy and downright common as muck but I absolutely love the buzz I get for the rest of the day. DP would be appalled with me if he found out 😅

My MN habit is a secret too. I don't have children, and I'm meant to have a professional, busy job which doesn't allow time for fucking about online. But here I am. I'm friends with a lot of women with young children who regularly talk about things being discussed on MN. I feign surprise or interest but I'm really thinking "Yeah, I saw that".

When I'm stressed and home alone, I talk to myself. I talk myself through what's getting me down, why, and what I need to do. I also reassure myself saying things like "Pull yourself together, it's fine, make a list and let's start at the top". I have no shame about this, I think its a perfectly normal thing to do. Except that I talk to myself in random accents. Today I went inexplicably scouse. My temporary foreign accent syndrome is the reason I keep this particularly activity a secret.

Tell me your secrets....

BTW, long-timer but NC just in case!

I put swishy music on, then pick up my cat and sway-dance with her. (David Grey 'Sail Away' is a favourite). She purrs like a tractor in my ear and leans back and gives me long slow blinks. Best thing in the world.

I snap my spaghetti in half instead of fannying around getting it in the pan whole like I used to. No one has noticed yet.

I thought everybody did this - I do it too 😀

Allthelego · 16/02/2023 13:09

I tap dance on a big piece of plywood in the garage. I’ve taught myself steps from youtube. Only my husband knows.

ladymacbeth · 16/02/2023 13:09

secret cleaner is really fucking weird! What is going on in your marriage that you have to/want to hide that?

Fentylipgloss · 16/02/2023 11:33

Cry and pray for death.

Seems she did, but what's the point of bringing up the distant past now? We all do stupid things - I married my third dh. [now with 4th for the last 23 years].If she told dh the shite would hit the fan and it's not fair on him / dc. She'd admitted it on here so can probably lay it to rest now.

Botw1 · 16/02/2023 13:11

@ladymacbeth

I dont get it either or laughing about men being spectacularly stupid/selfish

WashAsDelicates · 16/02/2023 13:11

When dd was little I used to play with her dollhouse. I'd take photos first, to make sure I put everything back where it was.

Dd always liked telling me about what she was doing with it, but not really playing with it together with me. Then one day, when dd was 8 or 9, she was showing me what the current story was in the dollhouse, and she said to me "You can play with dollhouse while I'm at school, mummy". By that time, sadly, I was working, and no longer ever had any time alone at home.

She's away at university now, and the dollhouse is still in her room...

I watch YouTube videos of people having their ingrown toenails removed. Can you imagine admitting to that in real life?!

Me too 🤣

YourApplePie · 16/02/2023 13:00

3pm Workday Wank (WFH obvs).

I'm also considering a secret cleaner.

Presumably you will contract them to finish before 3pm.

Spanielsarepainless · 16/02/2023 13:13

I have a largestash of chocolate. After Christmas it was about four pounds but the level has dropped a bit lately. Waiting for Lidl to have the giant squares of Ritter Sport...

pennylanestrawberries · 16/02/2023 13:15

I sometimes buy scratchcards or play a bit of online bingo. I never spend much at a time, maybe £5 or £10. Anyone who knows me in real life would never believe it!

BaublesAndGlitter · 16/02/2023 13:15

I post on mn. None of my friends or family know I use the site, and DH thinks I read but don't post.
I've also moved some friendships from here into RL.

I watch YouTube videos of people cleaning filthy swimming pools, carpets, car interiors etc. no idea why.

I have 2 extra sm accounts. On one I follow lots of 'earth mother, religious, home schooling' American women and American farmhouse renovations. I don't know why but I find the posts and pictures soothing.
The other account is for Christmas - decorations, crafts, music, everything Blush

Related to that, I will watch something festive when I'm feeling a bit flat (or just because I fancy it) throughout the year.

When DH goes away, I live on cheese & ham toasties, chocolate fingers and salt and vinegar crisps.

I talk to the dog a lot but I don't think it's a secret anymore because I've started to do it while walking him 😂

Eastereggsboxedupready · 16/02/2023 13:16

Not very exciting but very sneaky... If I have a day off (rare) I take dc to school then go back to bed!! Until maybe 11. Then go get myself fish and chips and hide the wrappers in the bin..

knobblyribs · 16/02/2023 13:17

YouTube karaoke. And do dance moves in the mirror.

Mars27 · 16/02/2023 11:28

I have a cleaner that comes every two weeks on Thursdays which is the only day of the week that my husband works at the office. He has zero idea.

Suits me just fine ;)

I love this!

bringincrazyback · 16/02/2023 13:17

Despite being 55 I am really into playing Sims Mobile. Because I am also a writer in my spare time I have found myself inventing whole backstories for my Sims, putting a lot of thought into these when my time would be better spent, um, actually writing. #embarrassed

bringincrazyback · 16/02/2023 13:18

Oh, and one of my Sims actually appears in the novel I am writing. Others may follow in due course. 😂

DartholomewSpaceInvader · 16/02/2023 13:21

I also listen to some weird music when I'm alone, like the Frank Chacksfield orchestra. My family have no idea and I'm certain they'd rib me mercilessly. It's not my usual thing and I have no idea why I like it so much, I just do.

Rocklobstershell · 16/02/2023 13:23

I compose daily MN imaginary threads for my current dilemmas / problems but don’t post them. I’ve done this forever, before MN I’d compose letters in my head to agony aunts in magazines. I guess it’s my way of problem solving without constantly moaning to friends.

TallulahBetty · 16/02/2023 13:23

I microwave a heap of cheese and eat it all melted by itself.

I watch lesbian porn.

I pull my eyelashes out and eat them.

Wow, it feels scary even typing those anonymously :(

BeyondMyWits · 16/02/2023 13:24

I (still) play Candy crush.

I also love the fact that DH wfh one day a week and sits in the same room as me to do so. It is companionable and "nice".... Everyone at my part time work were so negative when i first mentioned about that that I just pretend it is awful if I have to say anything at all. (Need some big girl pants, but I'm not a big girl type... not a doormat, just an easy-lifer)

FGSWhatNow · 16/02/2023 13:25

I secretly play in an orchestra.

Ok, what I actually do when I'm home alone is get my instrument out, download a score off the internet, put some music on (loudly), and join in with the bits that aren't too difficult

I've played in the Last Night of the Proms at the Albert Hall many a time, and no-one knows BlushGrin

Wannabepopstar · 16/02/2023 13:26

In bed at night I listen to my iPod and sing silently (ie proper belt out the songs but no sound) because I can’t sing for shit. But I really really really wish I could. I pretend I’m a fucking superstar 🙈

Waterfallgirl · 16/02/2023 13:27

Flowersintheattic57 · 16/02/2023 12:08

I’m sorry you are feeling so rubbish. I hope some inner well of strength comes and gives you a hug soon. 💐

also please tell someone in real life @Fentylipgloss - if not your GP maybe a friend family member or colleague. the pain will pass with some help and support from others.
