Anyone else got this bastard coughing bug?

DS and all his classmates had this coughing bug and now it's sweeping the parents too. Been coughing solidly for two weeks. At times coughing so hard I've been been sick and struggled to catch my breath. My pelvic floor is pleading for mercy.

Doctor has listened to my chest and there's no infections. I've tested for Covid daily and everything is coming back negative.

Still I can't stop fucking coughing.

Anyone else? How long before it passes....

Me!!!!!

I've never had a cough like it! So annoying 😩

Woahhohoho · 10/02/2023 20:32

Me! My 2 DC have had it for weeks too and there seems to be no end in sight.

This week I've had the treat of really painful sinuses also. It's really the gift that keeps giving.

@NutYourPlace

Me neither!! This has got to be the worst bug I've had for 20 years (Covid excepted.)

Came on here whilst having a coughing fit! Had it for nearly 2 weeks. We’ve all got it here

always thought i had a decent pelvic floor post birth but this cough has proved otherwise.

my mum and in laws are both down with chest infections as well after seeing us last week

Rainyrunner · 10/02/2023 20:35

Yes me, my family and most staff at work. It's horrific
I wonder if it's a new covid strain

FortunaMajor · 10/02/2023 20:35

Try Pholcodine Linctus, under £4 in the pharmacy. Usually behind the counter so you'll have to ask for it. It stops you coughing. The sugar free one is rank though and a lot thinner than the normal one.

Other than than that, sucking boiled sweets helps.

I usually get a cough that lasts 8-9 weeks every year. The above really helps.

cravingtoblerone · 10/02/2023 20:36

@FortunaMajor thank you for the tip!

Me! Driving me and my husband mad as both being kept awake at night. Had the awful virus before Christmas and now the cough is back but not as bad. Tested again but negative. Coughing whilst typing!

JofraArchersFastestBall · 10/02/2023 20:43

Us! Both my children have had it, worse at night. They've both had multiple nasty coughing fits - enough to make them sick - over the last couple of weeks. Every time I think it's over, one of them has another terrible night. And now I'm coming down with it (unsurprising, given how much I've been coughed on!)

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 10/02/2023 20:46

Yes! Has most most hideous cough for 2 weeks now. I’m whistling and wheezing like mad!

MissWings · 10/02/2023 20:48

Had that before Christmas, lasted for weeks. Never had a cough like it in my life, was literally pissing myself. Very unpleasant. I’ve since made up to my pelvic floor with lots of pelvic floor exercise.

Charles11 · 10/02/2023 20:48

I tried every remedy under the sun and had it for weeks. I gave up sugar and the cough went within a few days.
Might be a coincidence, might not but it might worth giving it a go.
There is some link of sugar to inflammation so not some crackpot theory.

RedCarsGoFaster · 10/02/2023 20:49

Yep, we have it here. It's been a very rough week.

Local pharmacys have sold out of pholcodine linctus. I'm relying on good old Night Nurse for sleep!!

Tireddoggymum · 10/02/2023 20:49

Yes I had it and coughed so much my phlegm was blood stained from the strain of coughing and my ribs were hurting!

Pearlsister · 10/02/2023 20:50

Me!
I'm well into my second week with the sodding thing. I can't stop coughing. I feel like I've got a cactus instead of a throat. It's so dry and parched. I'm getting through packets of lockets and Halls throat sweets.
I also feel quite rough. My ears hurt and I keep hearing weird sounds.

Spudlet · 10/02/2023 20:50

Me! And now I have sinus pain as well. It’s an utter bastard. I’m having to apologise to all my clients for coughing - I’m testing negative for covid and actually I feel fine, apart from the coughing and now the explodey head blocked sinuses too. And the toothache that the sinuses are giving me. Ugh.

CoodleMoodle · 10/02/2023 20:51

DS has been coughing the last few days, and I'm just waiting for DD to start, then me, DH and DM. We were all so ill after Christmas and couldn't do very much, so we were excited for this half term to get out of the house! Hopefully it's just a cough as he seems fine otherwise, so we can still get on with our days out.

Sunbird24 · 10/02/2023 20:53

Yes! I had covid last month and was left with a residual cough, but it got massively worse last Saturday and then on Monday I also got the runny nose and sneezing. Those have gone away now but I’m still left with the gunk in my lungs and coughing isn’t shifting the crackling and squeaky noises coming out of my chest!

Toottooot · 10/02/2023 20:53

Lasted about 2 weeks - no longer have that horrid chest rattle when I breathe.

SparkyBlue · 10/02/2023 20:54

DD has it. She never gets coughs. She also has had high temps with it and has been very sick. She is running around now wired from calpol (she is three) and very curious as to why there are treats and wine on the table. She is normally well asleep by now

WhyDoesItAlways · 10/02/2023 20:55

DS has it. Was coughing so much he was sick at school the other day so cue 48 hours off school even though he's perfectly fine.

You guys have reminded me to do my pelvic floor exercises incase I come down with it too!

AlexandraJJ · 10/02/2023 20:56

I caught it back end of November and had it 8 weeks. Sleepless nights were awful, I was sick too with the coughing 😒

GettingStuffed · 10/02/2023 20:57

I've got it, I had that horrible fly over Christmas that led me to having to go to hospital as I was having difficulty breathing. Now this. I don't seem to have had a break.

WinterCarlisle · 10/02/2023 21:02

Yes!!! I have it now and have felt shit for over a week. We have a few people off work with it too. I’ve done loads of covid tests and they’re all negative. I’ve had high temperatures, upset tum, the WORST sinuses, sore throat and a shocking chesty cough. My pelvic floor clearly needs some work and I’ve resorted to pads as I was coughing so much I kept wetting myself. FML. The stuff I’m coughing up is rank (sorry TMI). It just goes on and on - I can’t believe I’m not better yet. <wail>
