Anyone else got this bastard coughing bug?

DS and all his classmates had this coughing bug and now it's sweeping the parents too. Been coughing solidly for two weeks. At times coughing so hard I've been been sick and struggled to catch my breath. My pelvic floor is pleading for mercy.

Doctor has listened to my chest and there's no infections. I've tested for Covid daily and everything is coming back negative.

Still I can't stop fucking coughing.

Anyone else? How long before it passes....

I’m going to give that a go, thanks!

That was meant for @Embelline !

Oh god - I had this over for a month! I'm sorry to be bearer of bad news it took forever to go. I was still coughing so badly just taking a simple walk into town weeks later, it was bloody miserable. I am however now fully recovered and like nothing ever happened so it does get better eventually! Promise. Not much helped, but pure honey off a spoon helped a little, and lots of "thick" hot drinks made with extra powder, like hot chocolate or Horlicks. Get well soon all!

Benadryl worked finally on DS. The chemist recommended it.

Bunnycat101 · 11/02/2023 07:01

I feel like I’ve had some sort of bug since October. At the moment, I’ve got a sore throat I can’t shift and a very dry cough although now I seem to have mucus in my throat so every morning I wake up feeling like I’m drowning.

PicnicBunny · 11/02/2023 07:32

Try dissolvable aspirin gargle every few hours. That’s what worked for me. My DS had Benadryl for kids which cleared his up.

freespirit333 · 11/02/2023 07:37

Yes! I was ill over Christmas with a really bad, lingering virus which came with a horrendous cough. I don’t think that cough had fully gone when I came down with another cold virus nearly 3 weeks ago now, and I’m still having coughing fits from that!!!

The cough is really dry, quite throaty. It’s not keeping me up at night any more but it’s still very much there,

holeymoley3 · 11/02/2023 07:48

I'm on week three of it, had antibiotics for one week as my fever came back after a week but they didn't help. Haven't felt well for one day in the whole three weeks and feel like I'm starting to go crazy! Please tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel!

So sorry people are suffering. I saw a programme testing off the shelf cough medicines, versus the old fashioned fresh lemon in hot water with honey - Dr Xander was given chili powder and was coughing, tried the lemon and honey, it worked immediately.

I agree. I always go for honey with fresh lemon juice if I can. (With a shot of whiskey in the evening)

Another shite night's sleep here. ☹️ Hope everyone on this thread feels better very soon.

Yes it doing the rounds, for some reason DH escaped and mine only last 3 days ish…. DD around a week of coughing but felt ok in herself. DM is a few weeks in to it, affecting her appetite as she’s coughing so much she’s vomiting.

I also think it’s a new strain of covid/ some other nasty bug.

Piscesmumma1978 · 11/02/2023 09:17

Yes. A week now and feel worse again today. I'm not getting the coughing fits at night anymore so thats a bonus.

One ear is blocked as well which I've never had with cold before.

I've tested twice for COVID and am negative.

Embelline · 11/02/2023 10:18

I really hope it works for you - I never use alternative meds I’m a painkiller girl through and through but I was desperate and I tried everything - the onion in the room etc (which didn’t work) vicks on the feet, but that one did really help!

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 11/02/2023 10:22

I’ve had it exactly a week now. I feel terrible. Just totally wrung out, spacey and weird. Woke up with both eyes stuck down due to conjunctivitis.

MissingMoominMamma · 11/02/2023 10:23

I’m on my 4th week of it. Dr said initially that it was viral laryngitis. It’s driving me potty.

LadyJ2023 · 11/02/2023 10:57

Hubby, me and 4 kids all had it the kids lasted just under 2 weeks hubby and mine turned into chest infections so Dr gave us anti biotics and we were properly better after a month. First time in 10 years hubby had to take time off work sick days

Glad the Vicks worked for you!!

Embelline · 11/02/2023 18:10

@BrummiMummi oh sorry, it didn’t- bad phrasing - only the apple cider did. But not straight away I only realised when I woke up and realised I hadn’t been woken by coughing all night

MadeOfSteel · 11/02/2023 18:23

I've been coughing away since October! All the other symptoms have long gone but the cough is stubborn. My GP listened to my chest & it was clear. I've had a chest x-ray and that was clear, too. I don't know what else to do.

holeymoley3 · 11/02/2023 18:59

@MadeOfSteel could you have asthma, maybe bought on by having a bug? I only
Mention it as I have also had a chest X-ray and multiple drs listen to my chest over the last few weeks since this bug started and they all keep saying it's clear but they put me on steroids and increased my inhalers as they said it's probably my airways that are irritated (I do have asthma anyway) and since taking the steroids I have definitely noticed a difference with the cough and my chest not feeling as bad.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of that. I'll speak to my GP about it. It's all wrong that they didn't follow up with me after the clear chest x-ray.

Thanks again.

holeymoley3 · 11/02/2023 19:13

@MadeOfSteel no problem, just wanted to mention it as it's definitely made my asthma worse and the steroids have helped me not struggle with my cough as much at night. Hope you manage to get it sorted

How much did you have and how often? Near or in water? Thanks.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/02/2023 21:57

I have it too. Three weeks in and still coughing. I wonder if it is a chest infection now as it isn’t shifting. My ribs hurt from all the coughing.
