Anyone else got this bastard coughing bug?

DS and all his classmates had this coughing bug and now it's sweeping the parents too. Been coughing solidly for two weeks. At times coughing so hard I've been been sick and struggled to catch my breath. My pelvic floor is pleading for mercy.

Doctor has listened to my chest and there's no infections. I've tested for Covid daily and everything is coming back negative.

Still I can't stop fucking coughing.

Anyone else? How long before it passes....

@BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood oh I’m really sorry it hadn’t worked for you that’s rubbish. Maybe you need antibiotics?

cravingtoblerone · 13/02/2023 09:36

I've had the shivery/feverish thing too over the weekend. I can feel a crackle in my chest so going back to GP today.

Of course it would have to be half term, so any chance of peace and quiet to recuperate are totally bollocksed.

I'm totally convinced this has to be a strain of Covid. I was in tears from pain and fatigue last night...

I have just had this and it ended up as pneumonia. I have a pulse oximeter at home which was really useful - I was desaturating overnight terribly so ended up at the GP who sent me to A&E due to elevated heart rate. Chest x-ray there showed it was pneumonia. Sounds like I was quite lucky though as one week of anntibiotics (two types at once) seems to have cleared it pretty much. I still have a shitty cough but it's much improved and no longer needing a rest have way up the stairs!

Sorry if I have missed it OP but have you managed to have a chest x-ray? I had crackly lungs especially at night but the GP couldn't hear anything listening to my chest it was the x-ray that showed pneumonia.

Have had it for over 3 weeks after a cold starting 7 Jan , went to doctor's on Friday 9.30 giving a note in explaining I thought I had a chest infection as was so rattly and was now affecting my asthma and requesting a call from a doctor (we can only usually get appointments by turning up 8.30am but I was too ill earlier) had a generic text an hour later saying you must turn up 8.30 or ring 8.30 (oh yes to be number 24 in the queue, like that works...). Then had weekend from hell with ear pain/sinus pain/cough/fever, dragged myself to doctors 8.30 this morning, had to queue lying on a chair because I was so weak, two nurses listened to my chest and couldn't hear the rattle that I can. Sent away with antibiotics and sputum pot. A woman collapsed whilst I was there, almost careering into my chair in the queue, and many people were doing the same hacking cough. Nurses' best guess was viral.

cravingtoblerone · 13/02/2023 16:37

@Magentax I'm so sorry to hear that!

Been to doctor (again) and they have confirmed bronchitis. Crackle in upper respiratory tract on both lungs. Have a bucket of antibiotics and have had a slightly more restful sleep this afternoon.

Typical it all kicks off in half term. All plans for days out and play dates have been shelved so poor DS is going to have to occupy himself for a few days. Feeling huge Mum guilt.

@user1471504821 that's terrible! It's taking people out left, right and centre here too. Half the village has it... Covid aside, this is the worst winter bug I've had for 20 years....

I think I might have something else at the same time as I had a persistent cough that seemed to be getting better and now started with shivering and achey muscles, feeling really weak and fatigued etc. Now the cough is even worse!

Exactly the same here @Firebird83 and @BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood - a couple of days behind you. How’s it going? Has it turned out to be covid…?

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 16/02/2023 18:28

Well I have had it nearly two weeks now. I was feeling much better but last two days have had an agonising sore throat. Today I feel utterly awful. I could just go to bed. What on earth is this thing??

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 16/02/2023 18:46

I think it’s another strain of Covid too. It’s Mich worse than when I had it last summer. Headaches, muscle aches, joint pain, fugged up thinking, agonising throat, horrendous cough. Bad dreams.

cravingtoblerone · 16/02/2023 19:21

@BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood

Was just having this conversation with my husband. We are almost at week four and I'm so breathless....

Sounds grim @BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood - sorry you’re still struggling. Some sort of horrible mystery virus if not covid. Hope things pick up for you soon. Definitely just go to bed if at all possible…! Is your name a Daniel Tiger reference? If so, I presume you have young child(ren) and resting is easier said than done 😬

eatdrinkandbemerry · 16/02/2023 19:33

Me 😫
I swear I've peed myself and thrown up multiple times a day for the last 10 days.
I'm so sleepy because it's so
Much worse when I lay down too

Bunnycat101 · 16/02/2023 19:52

Ugg our half term has been shit. I’m on antibiotics and one child has been projectile vomiting most of the week. Just getting so pissed off with being ill. it makes me really wary now about actually booking fun things or holidays during winter as it seems the odds of having to cancel are so high.

Haha! No it’s not, it just randomly popped into my head.

fivetriangulartrees · 16/02/2023 21:15

Well over two months in and coughing so hard I've pulled muscles and hurt all over. Chest x-ray clear. Waiting to feel a bit better generally before trying steroids.

BrummiMummi · 17/02/2023 08:06

I have been better the last week of so but today I’m again full of cold WTAF?? So sick of this now, hoping it’s just the last of it coming out perhaps

Elsanore · 17/02/2023 08:35

Another one here with it. Started just after Christmas. Course of amoxicillin seemed Ti help but didn't get rid. Still coughing up green daily. Starting with another cold today now as well 🤧

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 18/02/2023 03:28

I’m seriously thinking of spending the day in bed. I’m exhausted by early evening. No energy, can’t think straight, exhausted. When will this ever end? I developed this two weeks ago today.

BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood · 19/02/2023 02:31

agonising sore throat is back . I’m going to the doctor on Monday.

BerthaYoung · 03/03/2023 22:28

How did it work out for you @BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood ? I’m still coughing a month on, and so congested, and starting to feel a bit breathless 😖

Charles11 · 03/03/2023 22:39

Try the traditional therapeutic drinks - lemon and ginger - and giving up sugar for a bit.
I did both but giving up sugar seemed to have a drastic effect.

I’m over it now thank god. Honestly it was awful. Three weeks of symptoms and then feeling exhausted for at least a week. It’s horrible. I hope you get better soon. Hot water with lemon juice and honey really seemed to help.

BerthaYoung · 04/03/2023 10:33

Really glad you’ve made it out the other side @BeautifulDayintheneighbourhood ! Totally grim... Here’s to a nice long stretch of good health for you now!

BerthaYoung · 04/03/2023 10:34

Thanks @Charles11 I’ll try that. I do feel a bit off sweet things which is really unusual so maybe my body is trying to tell me something!
