Yes it's just something to hide behind whilst the headlines have been unfavourable.

There's no paper.
There is no legislation.

It will never happen.
Wasting time in Parliament rather than governing.

It's their only method to cling on to power.

Yes and I have (FOR MY SINS) just seen Gullis interviewed about this. There is something wrong with that man. He never blinks and gabbles so fast. Like a robot whilst spewing his rhetoric.

It will appeal to their base sadly

And bring back all those moving from Tory to reform.

Bravermans FB page is full of them.

The only purpose of this bill is to use up the time to the next election allowing their MPs to pretend something is happening without having to confront the ECHR issue. As leaving would be totally contra Sunak's strategy to rebuild EU relations.

His seat has been vulnerable for a while, so I'm not surprised. Only a 6k majority, been shrinking for a while and it's the sort of Tory area that recoils in horror from the right wing populist send them all back and reintroduce hanging sort of rhetoric. I don't think the Conservatives can hold it next time.

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2023 17:09

He was a smallish majority (6,000).

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 07/03/2023 17:09

I wonder if they'll get wiped out in GM next time?

Rather looks that way. I know he's been in for a million years, but he'll be well south of 60 even if we go a full parliamentary term.

Roussette · 07/03/2023 17:40

Can someone think of doing a new thread at some point?

I'm useless at thread titles Grin

Seems like a good title for the next thread to me!

Seconded.

Thirded. By the way @jgw1, did you write the Michael Deacon column in the Torygraph today? If not, you’ve clearly been giving him lessons in satire.

DuncinToffee · 07/03/2023 18:45

An unforgivable message. A sentence which shames the country and everything it stands for.

Any ideas how to incorporate sunak, rats and ship without risking deletion?

Yvette Cooper is a master at facts and figures and doesn't half show up Braverman.

Braverman: "The law abiding patriotic majority have said enough is enough. This Conservative gov will act now to stop the boats."
Cooper: "45,000 crossed on small boats last year, up from 280 four years ago. They have been in power for 13 years."

Cap'n Sunak's rats desert the sinking ship?

Cap'n Sunak's rats desert the sinking ship?

Nah, you won't get away with that - the TrueBeLeavers will be all over that. You need to go indirect - maybe try Sunak: The lifeboats are full of rats.

Ship of fools?
Boatloads of Bollocks? (Too much Grin)

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2023 21:18

Interesting if depressing thread

  1. I’ve been having a look at the bill. Not going to be able to put together anything coherent tonight. It’s a terrible piece of legislation that denies refugees their rights under the Refugee Convention. But a law in the UK cannot magically invent somewhere to remove people to.

Ship of fools is a good one.

Notonthestairs · 07/03/2023 21:23

IClaudine · 07/03/2023 21:19

Ship of fools is a good one.

The ship of fools is an allegory, originating from Book VI of Plato's Republicc^, about a ship with a dysfunctional crew. The allegory is intended to represent the problems of governance prevailing in a political system not based on expert knowledge.
Seems about right.

I've been a bit busy today arguing with people who think that blue is orange and that red is illegal.
