Sunak's small boats plan - the challenges

  1. Illegal migration bill will make all asylum claims from those who have come indirectly to UK 'inadmissible'

But this will inevitably be subject to legal challenge and potential judicial review. It will affect genuine refugees

Under international law everyone has the right to seek asylum in any safe country and to have their claim to asylum fairly assessed. Dismissing their claims without fair assessment because of the means they got there is a blatant breach of international law. The British Goverment are bringing shame upon the entire country with this plan.

Fladdermus · 06/03/2023 12:34

Fucking hell. Just seen that Hancock argued with Chris Witty and kept people in isolating for weeks longer than necessary because following the science would have made him look bad. People were imprisoned in their homes under threat of fines if they left to protect his ego.

Roussette · 06/03/2023 12:42

I saw an interview yesterday with an MP being asked... how does someone who is being persecuted in Iran get here then?
The MP concerned had NO answer. There aren't safe routes. She just kept saying she wasn't the Immigration Minister. Why come on telly then to answer questions on this, if you have no answer?

Just watch this again. Same back then. Same now. It's embarrassing.

Here she is actually saying you would have to cross the Channel in a boat and then apply for asylum

Roussette · 06/03/2023 12:43

When I say'she'. I mean the nasty Suella Braverman

pointythings · 06/03/2023 12:49

I peeked at the immigration thread. The cognitive dissonance is astounding - people either don't know or don't want to know (I suspect the latter) that there are no safe legal routes into the UK and that you cannot apply from another country. And they don't care that this law would mean the UK effectively shutting its doors to all refugees.

I had a little look but it makes me too angry and for the sake of my BP, I have to stay away

That is the aim because forriners are bad.

That was Michelle Donelan

James O'brien

Sue Gray’s appointment is going to be another ‘Currygate’. They’ll spend days inflating it with ever more excitable nonsense & exaggeration before the balloon of bollocks bursts in their hands. All it shows is how absolutely desperate they are for anything to hit Starmer with.

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle tells MPs not to indulge in "mass lobbying" after (I'm told) 14 requests went in for UQs on Sue Gray appt.

He suggests it was orchestrated campaign, adding: "I was surprised that they all had the same wording and the same length of sentence".

He tells Tory MPs - led by Boris Johnson - who have criticised the privileges committee that it should be allowed to complete its partygate inquiry "without interference".

OK. It is probably gossip and it is not substantiated... but there are two articles I have read that say on BJ's Honours list of 100 (40 more than May and Cameron) apart from Stanley the wife beater, is also his wife Carrie, and sister Rachel.

I am honestly hoping this is just tabloid fodder.

I'm telling you Boris is a Labour plant. He is there to make the establishment look ridiculous and to make the case for radical reform of the House of Lords and honours unarguable against.

Roussette · 06/03/2023 15:55

I think you're right! Or he is just sticking anyone on like his sister and wife so his one true love Nads gets through!

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 06/03/2023 16:07

I think Boris getting peerages for his wife beater father, various siblings and current wife is actually quite beautifully in keeping with the way he conducted his premiership. I rather hope he also swings one for whoever he's having an extra-marital affair with this week too.

For anyone who wants to try Sunak’s 'innovation means growth' QR code

twitter.com/AntoniaRForster/status/1632755451065425921?t=_GEoNLlP-zzCpNKf07c2-g&s=19
If you get impostor syndrome, read this.

This is a real press release from the UK Prime Minister. He tweeted a QR code which:

  • Mobile Twitter users can't scan
  • Requires @AdobeAero
  • Breaks on Android
  • Glitches on iOS

And if you jump through the hoops... THIS is the result.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 06/03/2023 17:25

Bloody hell, if that's too the standard he's aiming for he should employ me as Minister of Science and Technology. Because I'm a fecking genius compared to whoever did that and skill is such that I don't even know how to change my user name on Mumsnet.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 06/03/2023 17:27

*and MY skill is such....

That I can't even post coherently.

Soothsayer1 · 06/03/2023 17:35

For anyone who wants to try Sunak’s 'innovation means growth' QR code
it reminds me of the powerpoint presentations that my children used to make back in the early 2000's when they were about 10
but he speaks to the public as if we were 5 year-olds sitting cross legged in the school hall...so I guess it kinda fits
jesus wept

Soothsayer1 · 06/03/2023 17:39

I think Boris getting peerages for his [...] siblings
that'll be Racheal's reward for defending her 'bro' on LBC?

Poor Jackie, she tried but they're clearly determined to get everyone talking about the Sue Grey report again!

Notonthestairs · 06/03/2023 18:16

Dorries suggesting Grey leaked Sunak's wife tax status is surely a joke.
It came out just as Johnson's partying made news and was most likely leaked to take the heat off him - which it did temporarily.

Agree poor Jackie is trying to stem the tide of drivel.

What baffles me is why a politican would be so daft as to have a wife or husband whose tax status could be leaked. How hard is it to pay taxes when they are due?
