Truss is launching tomorrow

Unfortunately not into space?!

Oops I hadn't even noticed that I missed out 'comeback campaign'

Anyway she has written an 4000 word essay in the Telegraph claiming she was brought down by the left-wing economic establishment Grin

It's behind paywall, screenshots here

twitter.com/BestForBritain/status/1621983845342912512?t=8PnSXIKZ9Cm4pL8RRTihuQ&s=19

She was brought down because even gcse economics students could see the huge holes in her plan.

I love the fact she's trying to blame left wing economists.

Has she checked the latest polls? Die she honestly think there's more throat for more right ring policies right now?

Launching what?

Grin
Piggywaspushed · 05/02/2023 06:32

I'm hopeful that if no one looks Truss in the eye and backs away very slowly, she will go away.

For balance, the other day I watched a bit of GB news. Apparently according to Nigel Garage Brexit was thwarted because the Tory party are actually a socialist party, and ruined it on purpose because they never wanted it hard enough. WTAF Hmm

And whoever’s idea it was to resurrect Truss, I’d like some of what they’ve smoking…

Thanks for the thread Dunc

Oh deary me... the Truss article. The Economist Charles Read is hopping mad. He has a Twitter thread...

twitter.com/EconCharlesRead/status/1622050159818317825

Here is the first tweet. There are more, worth a read.

For anyone reading Liz Truss's mea culpa in The Sunday Telegraph
today, the idea Truss states that Kwarteng and the Treasury had not been warned of the budget's risks to financial stability was NOT TRUE. /1

If (big if) the Economic Establishment are left wing, that should tell them all something, shouldn't it?

dontcallmelen · 05/02/2023 09:02

.

Zonder · 05/02/2023 09:38

I can't bring myself to read the article yet. Does Truss actually want another crack of the PM whip? Does she think anyone in the commons will support her?

I had a quick glance to make sure it was a proper link and not a spoof.

I read half of that article and two things immediately jumped out at me:
1, if she believes any of that shit she wrote then she is in need of speaking to a medical practitioner about care for her mental health.

2, I left school after GCSEs,. Despite all of the advantages Truss has had, the University education, better school, jobs that I would imagine involve writing reports, she doesn't write particularly well.

Is she really one of the best in the country?

Notonthestairs · 05/02/2023 10:33

I started the article but almost immediately read a flat out lie - Truss pretending that she expected Johnson to lead them in the next election & so she didn’t have any kind of infrastructure in place for a leadership campaign.
I mean come on! We know Kwarteng was busy ringing around to get her support to replace Johnson from at least January. Truss had started campaigning long before July.

If she can't be honest over the small things the rest of it is going to be 💩

I doubt Truss has that much support within her party & I don't think even she believes that they would bring her back so soon. But I have spotted a few comments on MN recently repeating the view that Truss was right but held back by evil anti growth coalition types. They think deregulation and massive tax cuts are the way forward and struggle to conceive they might ever need public services. We know many grassroots Tory members loved her "vision" - so I guess she's going to lurk and hope to find a way back in.

It might be fun watching the Conservatives splintering but we are trapped underneath them.

^^ This.

It was all over Twitter her 'Fizz with Liz' get togethers to schmooze and get people on side for her stab at the top job. She's deluded. And a liar to boot.

Happygirl79 · 05/02/2023 10:44

She should be in jail for crashing our economy

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2023 10:45

Not really surprising as there was a lot of support for her budget on here.

I've read it all.

I was right.
Economic orthodoxy is bad.
I didn't investigate the knock on impact of my policies but that's not my fault.
I have looked at it properly now and goodness everyone in Government since 2010 (!)!has cocked it up.
Tory members believe me & they know more than the Treasury and every economist.
I'm here for you when you are ready to embrace change/chaos.

jgw1 · 05/02/2023 11:04

Except that wholesale gas prices are back down to the level of a year ago, so why are we in the UK still paying so much?

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/02/2023 11:15

Fair play for getting through the whole article.
@jgw1, interest rates are shooting up, the choice, quality and availability of food has drastically reduced while the prices have rocketed. Rather than getting fuel companies to pay a windfall tax, they chose to subsidise these companies further with our taxes, but at the same time make it look like they are helping by giving some back to us.

Gas prices coming down mean the subsidies should stop and they can't then claim to be helping.

They are knobs.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2023 11:44

Truss writing in the Telegraph and being interviewed by the Spectator

Sunak being interviewed by Piers Morgan on TalkTv

Johnson on Nadine Dories TalkTv show

What/who are they afraid of?

Don't forget that it is now over a year since each of those Tories voted to not reduce fuel bills...

Is there enough space up there for all of them?
