Rishuffle confirmed:

Grant Shapps - Energy Security & Net Zero
Michelle Donelan - Science, Innovation & Technology
Kemi Badenoch - Business & Trade
Lucy Frazer - Culture, Media & Sport
Greg Hands - Tory party chair

Inspirational.

I’m mystified by the Donelan appointment. She’s standing down in the next election, she’s not going to be exactly motivated.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 13:48

It gets better

NEW: Rishi Sunak appoints Lee Anderson, a red wall rottweiler, as deputy Conservative chair.

Many Tory MPs will feel the appointment of '30p Lee', a nickname he was given after controversial comments about cost of living crisis, can only end one way...

Blossomtoes · 07/02/2023 13:52

Wtf? There’s something about being a Tory PM that robs them of their senses.

Notonthestairs · 07/02/2023 13:54

6th reshuffle in a year - I can't see how a change of personnel every couple of months benefits the country.

Tory party has so many loose cannons I'm not surprised they are sinking.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 14:12

Lucy Frazer's promotion to DCMS means the government is looking for its SIXTH housing minister in a year.
And the 12th housing minister since 2016.

Its not about benefitting the country its about benefitting the people (Putin?) who pay for them.

Given that there may be about 110 Tory MPs after the next GE, I think it is safe to say that many of them will be "standing down".

You see the thing is, if everyone was as successful as Rishi, they too would have 12 houses and this Ministerial post would be redundant.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 14:20

30p Lee will upset the woke lefty tofu eaters and appease the racists and bigots, well in Richi, Vlad will be proud.

I really hope that come the long awaited GE some of you will join me through the night as the results come in. I can think of no other bunch of people I’d rather be with.

Needs to make contacts for those non exec/advisory posts she's probably planning on taking up.

Roussette · 07/02/2023 14:36

30p Lee is a quite disgusting man. What has possessed Sunak?

Birds of a feather...

pointythings · 07/02/2023 14:49

@Blossomtoes count me in - as soon as I know the date I will be booking the day after as leave so I can stay up all night. Sharing it with you lot will be a huge bonus and hey, who needs sleep?

Notonthestairs · 07/02/2023 14:52

The problem with the "better off pissing out of the tent than into it" philosophy is that if you keep doing it you end up with a tent full of people pissing everywhere.

This refers to the Anderson appointment but also encapsulates the broader issue!

I'm embarrassed to admit this but I hate GEs. I hate the chaotic build up. The Vox pops and talking heads. Shit debates. The polling. All of it irritates me. The country trying to function and plan for the future whilst Westminster simultaneously sticks its head up its arse and indulges in some navel gazing.

But that is what is happening anyway so bring it on.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 14:54

Good time to share this video again, Sunak will probably claim nobody told him about Anderson's campaign activities

Ah yes but did they tell Sunak formally? Doesn't count if it's not formal.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 07/02/2023 10:53

What do the government actually do all day? They're getting paid a heck of a lot of our money to what exactly? What are they actually delivering on? What sections of society are functioning well because of what the government are doing?

Good question.

Shame it's one we can't answer or the answer seems to be nothing - or there's no evidence of anything working currently.

Notonthestairs · 07/02/2023 16:02

One Tory MP writes of Lee Anderson, marked for wider distribution:

That's all right though, as I hear there's no problem with housing in this country at the moment.

Blossomtoes · 07/02/2023 16:49

End days, they’re all turning on each other now.

@Notonthestairs, I don’t enjoy the run up to a GE but I love the counts. I used to work at them, I was at the count in 1997 when I heard a huge cheer go up in a side room, popped my head round the door to see what had happened to be told Portillo had lost his seat. I’ll never forget the joy that night and I want to experience it again.

I could excited about that. Grin

Blossomtoes · 07/02/2023 17:14

It was brilliant. I drove home at 6am as the sun rose and I sang all the way. That morning was one of the highlights of my life.

pointythings · 07/02/2023 17:39

I stayed up until Michael Portillo lost his seat in 1997 - was still living in Holland then (just) but stayed with British expat friends and we had a blast.
