A Times article (I archived it as it's behind a paywall, if you think the link looks funny)

‘Delusional Liz Truss could cost Tories next election’

archive.ph/93035#selection-769.0-769.54

Surely The Times is delusional if they think the Tories haven't already lost the next General Election?
Liz Truss could of course make it worse, but Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson are trying hard to make sure they make it worse as well.

The Good Law Project are now looking into Sunak's tax affairs. He was a founding partner of a hedge fund, which is heavily involved in moderna, which has just been awarded a massive government contract. Sunak stepped down from the hedge fund when he became an MP and now refuses to say if he still benefits from it.

Just jealous that Rishi is so much richer and more successful than they are.

Why does it matter if Rishi benefits from investing in successful UK businesses, surely that is to be applauded?

Who doesn't know a friend with a consultancy firm

EXCL: Ministers have quietly dropped restrictions on spending controls on external consultants, allowing Whitehall departments to spend millions more on outside advice

This is good news.
These consultants are excellent, particularly the ones that will give me a job after I have got bored of being a minister or senior civil servrant.

TokyoSushi · 06/02/2023 22:29

Late check in, looks like we're on for a mini reshuffle tomorrow. Remember what happened last time we had a mini thing.., 🙄

Blossomtoes · 06/02/2023 23:33

New cabinet posts. More snouts in the trough then. It’s unbelievable.

DuncinToffee · 06/02/2023 23:35

FFS, they really are on strike themselves, playing musical chairs

The great thing is it means a whole series of minister new to departments so they will have no idea what they are supposed to be doing, so nothing will happen for a few months.
Luckily there are no urgent issues facing the country.

Fladdermus · 07/02/2023 07:21

Strong and stable!

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 08:53

FYI

ASDA-branded cafés will be serving free hot porridge for kids (no purchase needed) between 8am and 12pm for the half-term holiday (9th until 22nd February).

Good for Asda. Why isn’t this government hanging its heads in shame?

Agreed, they should be.

DowningStreetParty · 07/02/2023 09:43

Thank you ASDA. flowers
Shame upon you, Tories in government since 2010.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 09:49

Especially when BP profits rise to £23 billion.

Can't quite believe we've got to the stage that supermarkets are feeding children during school holidays. But well done Asda.

Didn't we used to have a Department for Energy or am I imagining that?

Rebranding is a good use of public money, whereas paying nurses is not.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 07/02/2023 10:53

What do the government actually do all day? They're getting paid a heck of a lot of our money to what exactly? What are they actually delivering on? What sections of society are functioning well because of what the government are doing?

Good question. Not a lot seems to be the answer.

Well they make important decisions that are in the interests of those that are paying them the most.

Typically that means they do nothing about tax evasion, non-dom status and so on, as those paying them benefit from these sort of things. They spend our money on making sure their mates get richer as well.

I suppose it's one thing we need to acknowledge that they're very good at. Doing nothing. They've got that down to a fine art.

They certainly are expert at doing nothing to help the people of this country and then blaming someone else.

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 13:00

Richard Sharp evidence so far:
• Was working in Downing Street anyway, on Covid projects.
• Told Johnson/Sunak he was going to apply for BBC job before he did.
• Introduced Sam Blyth to cabinet secretary.

All sounds very insular and cosy.

The only good thing about this incompetent government is they are so incompetent we can all see exactly what they are doing
Even the cap doffers are starting to see how self-serving and corrupt they all are

DuncinToffee · 07/02/2023 13:14

Rishuffle confirmed:

Grant Shapps - Energy Security & Net Zero
Michelle Donelan - Science, Innovation & Technology
Kemi Badenoch - Business & Trade
Lucy Frazer - Culture, Media & Sport
Greg Hands - Tory party chair
