Has a man dressed as a woman ever come into a communal changing room with you or joined a specifically female group you belong to ?

How common is it ? Not really referring to stories in the media but for everyday women on MN. FWIW I've never met a trans person that I know of, neither professionally or socially. I'm a HCP so meet alot of members of the public. None of my kids have friends that are trans nor do my friends have children that are either.
Loads of trans threads at the moment. No problem with that but just wondered if it really is that prevalent ?
Before I get flamed I'm not in favour of biological womens' safe spaces being open to biological men but equally I don't think that all trans people, especially trans women are necessarily sexually deviant or mentally ill.

Nope.

I feel far more threatened by straight,
cis men on a daily basis. To me, trans people represent a very small threat to women compared to them. I think we’ve got it completely out of proportion and wish we could put as much time and effort into tackling toxic masculinity as we do into this.

That's because many haven't considered what replacing sex with gender on various official forms will do.

Once you look past the changing rooms/loos safety aspect you see all the very real societal impact such rubbish will have, and yes, this IS what Stonewall is pushing for

Imagine trying to work out the needs for provision for ex based medicine if you don't know the sex of the people you are catering for!

Spot on ! I’ve never felt threatened by trans women at all .

The very concept of 'transwoman' is the epitome of masculine toxicity!

SamphiretheTervosaurReturneth · 22/01/2023 19:58

I always replace 'transgender' as 'homosexual' when I read peoples comments.

How odd. Homosexuality is a matter of sexual orientation. Clue in the name

Transgender is not a sexuality. Why conflate the two? Or did you just want a new stick to beat us with?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/01/2023 19:59

There is no reason for a male bodied person to want to work in a women's underwear department except for validation and/or thrill.

They don't know what it's like to be a woman or have a women's body. And companies which have indulged them should be ashamed.

Agree, Clymene

SirChenjins · 22/01/2023 20:04

Exactly @Catswhisky any man can now declare themselves a transwoman and access female only spaces - and women can do FA all about it. Quite why that doesn’t scare the bejesus out of women I don’t know. This is the reality for vulnerable women in a jail up here news.stv.tv/west-central/scottish-prison-service-criticised-for-moving-trans-woman-katie-dolatowski-to-cornton-vale-stirling The man known as Katie sexually assaulted a girl in the toilet cubicle of a supermarket and took photos of a girl in a cubicle another time- female toilets he was allowed to be in in the first place, of course. He battered a fellow male prisoner so was moved to a female prison and there was nothing the women there and their families could do. Picture of the obviously male Katie with the article.

The straight men are the ones pretending to be lesbians.

Sharkpenis · 22/01/2023 20:42

My ex husband. He is a serial rapist, domestic abuser, and a paedophile who sexually assaulted all 3 of his daughters (only one is mine) Both myself and my daughter have a lot of trauma from it.

He joined his local womans institute, and put a peice in his village news paper telling everyone he was trans and offering a chat if theyre struggling and feeling low. Looking for his next victims i should imagine.

Yes gym changing room, wandering about naked. pre op obvs.

So basically a man was in a woman’s changing room walking around naked with his dick hanging out?? Surely not?! I don’t even understand how that’s allowed

Some straight men now like dressing up in sexy women's clothes and forcing themselves on women only spaces.

Calling themselves women or lesbians doesn't make it so.

A case that occurred under self-ID in Norway. The woman who challenged him was eventually found not guilty of harrassment, but the law has since been tightened and she may not be so lucky if it happens again.

I always replace 'transgender' as 'homosexual' when I read peoples comments.

Should homosexual men be in woman only spaces? No.
Should trans identified males be in women only spaces? No.

However I don’t see a huge influx of homosexual men demanding access to women’s spaces and language so I can’t see how that would be comparable anyway.

BigHeartyTruffle · 22/01/2023 21:32

@verdantverdure “some” being the operative word. How many, compared to the number of cis hetero men who intimidate and assault women on a daily basis? A tiny fraction. Honestly I despair at how much energy is expended on issue, given the other threats that face women that are having a far more significant impact on the lives of women and girls.

How do you know how these men identify?

There isn’t a trans dress code you know - they can (and do) wear typically male clothes, beards etc.

The current definition of trans and the self id policies adopted by many organisations means that no man can be challenged when entering a female only space.

Any man who is up to no good only has to imply that he use as a woman and no one will dare challenge that.

Recently convicted paedophile Sally Dixon (currently in a female prison although had to move wings after causing issues with a female prisoner) claimed to have identified as female for years but strangely his neighbours and others around him had no idea. He did wear female clothes for the court case.

BigHeartyTruffle · 22/01/2023 21:39

@RichardBarrister around 0.5% of the population identify as transgender, so I use logic to infer that the vast majority of them identify as men.

PriOn1 · 22/01/2023 21:40

Are the other threats emerging threats, being actively lobbied for in parliament and the civil service and subject to significant legal changes?

If the answer is no, then you can stop despairing. Once the challenge is past and men stop insisting we say they are women and demanding access to women’s spaces, then women will have time to return to addressing those other, long-standing and more difficult to resolve issues.

Yet the very definition of 'woman' is about to become meaningless, so you really profoundly misunderstand the issue.

Can you imagine any of these men taking advantage of the opportunity provided to them by self id policies to allow them access into any women only space?

It's all the same to me if a man hurting women is wearing fishnets and a wig @BigHeartyTruffle

It’s upthread - 1 in 585 trans women convicted of sexual assault compared to 1 in 2500-3000 men. I’d redirect your despair if I were you.

When women don’t have to share single sex spaces with men then we can move forward and address the other issues which threaten our safety and dignity.

BigHeartyTruffle · 22/01/2023 22:12

@SirChenjins you do that - I don’t plan on waiting to address those issues

SirChenjins · 22/01/2023 22:15

Neither do I - which is why I, along with many others, will continue to fight to keep men out of female single sex spaces. That’s the 1 in 585 btw - horrific statistic, isn’t it.

Oblomov22 · 22/01/2023 22:21

Most of them aren't even trans. Most of them keep their penis. Come on, you aren't even trans, you're just a man in drag. Why feel ashamed to say so?

Apparently "bottom surgery" is no longer required as women allegedly have penis...
