I have cool sunny day envy here today. My car dashboard informed me it was 31c yesterday and it's forecast to be hotter today. Normal English autumn meant to resume next week though 🤞

Still haven't shampooed carpet as i had a forgotten appointment yesterday. Hopefully today.

Hope you all have a great Saturday 😊

Peridot1 · 09/09/2023 09:19

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2023 21:33

Peridot, thank you. 💖 Now I don't need to start a thread under AIBU. 😁

Well that’s good. You do need to bring cake though. 😄

RunningKatie · 09/09/2023 11:52

Another glorious day here, I'm sat in a town centre on a bench waiting for dc2. Then dash home for lunch, then I'm either mum taxi for dc1 or 2 or a crazy combo of both. This is terrible planning.
I've thrown a pair of dry clean only curtains in the washing machine, living life on the edge today. I don't care for them particularly so if they don't survive it's not a disaster!
Hope everyone is enjoying the weather.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/09/2023 19:09

Thunder & Peridot: glad I made you smile. I'll always bring cake!
Running: apt user name today! I put my curtains in the wash, too and always have. Gentle cycle or perm press then hang up as soon as wash is done.

more painting to do. Got delayed as more wall repair has been needed. The prep is so time consuming....

SummerLobelia · 09/09/2023 19:18

Hi all- just posting so i don't drop off completely! RL has taken over and will report back soon. All fine here and good though.

Am reading all your posts! Hugs all, SL

petalpower · 10/09/2023 09:04

I’m still here too - reading but not posting. RL just got very busy with one thing and another. We’re now on holiday for a week and adult DS and DD have joined us for the weekend which has been lovely. All a bit hotter than I expected for the UK so we’re not able to take the dog out for the lovely long walks he normally enjoys here apart from early morning (we’ve returned to a previous holiday cottage). It’s a good break from the building project at home though.

RunningKatie · 10/09/2023 10:25

Have a wonderful holiday @petalpower
We've had a tiny bit of rain this morning, it's overcast and feels a bit cooler, it was too hot for sleeping well last night.
I am sad to report that the curtains survived the washing machine, DH has rehung them and although they are totally creased they do look fresher.
I've been to the gym this morning, I had a mini PT session this week and was horrified to discover that I cannot do sit-ups any longer, there seems to be a layer of podge there that means I no longer bend in the middle.
Today's job is to get the steam cleaner out of the garage and try to clean down the shower door, I bought it in a fit of enthusiasm years ago and then could not get to grips with it.

autumnangel · 10/09/2023 16:23

Hello, please may I join in? I’m really feeling overwhelmed with my ever growing to do list and clutter in my house. I have set myself a challenge to have my house (and in turn hopefully my life) clutter free, deep cleaned and organised by December. I’ve given it some thought, probably too much thought actually since I am the biggest overthinker ever, and if I concentrate on a room a week (counting the garden, shed and loft as rooms) I will be sorted by December. I just need somewhere to write some daily ramblings to keep myself going.

Todays plans are to tidy the spare room, go round each room and make a list of things I want to sort out, write generic to do list for the upcoming week as well as a meal plan and habit tracker, nag prompt DP to order a copy of his birth certificate and delete at least 100 photos from the 7679 I have on my phone - most of which are screenshots of things I want to buy / try that I haven’t gotten round to yet.

Hope no one minds me joining in.

ThunderclapCloud · 11/09/2023 07:00

Morning @autumnangel and welcome! Please do use our little thread to keep track of what you're doing, and hopefully you'll find inspiration, support and solidarity here!
I suffer from overwhelm too and i find that when I only heep half an eye on the bigger picture and just commit to a small thing every day, changes happen quite fast!

@RunningKatie I not only washed, but dyed some dry-clean curtains last year! They survived, and the creases did drop out eventually 😊

I hope you are having a lovely holiday @petalpower It's finally cooled down a bit today here on the south coast, and I hope it's the same for you too so you can enjoy your walks.

Hello @LateSummerLobelia I'm glad you're still with us and hope all is ok!

👋 @Aria999 @SpiritOfEdna @Mumtobabyhavoc @Peridot1 and anyone else who'd like to join us!

I'm off to write a list because things have got away from me a bit round here. I might do a flylady Monday blessing thing because that tends to get me back on track.

Then I aim to have a list of achievements to rival some I read on here, but in reality it may just be that I have clean clothes, and dinner on the table. In my defence I have some online learning to complete for work and I'm meeting a friend for lunch as it's my day off.

Have a lovely day everyone and I'll catch you later 💕

SummerLobelia · 11/09/2023 08:06

Morning!

I echo our esteemed @ThunderclapCloud and say a big welcome @autumnangel ! This is a lovely thread and we welcome all! I like the sound of focusing on one room a week. I might give that a try also as I am attacking rooms in pieces it seems.

I hope your online course goes well AND the day off and lunch! @ThunderclapCloud

Hello to everyone!

I think I am back now with a vengeance. Life just got busy but all fine. Very little achieved on the home front but I kept things ticking over vis a vis feeding everyone and laundry so that is a win.

Today I have a doctor's appointment. Then I have to sit on the phone to HMRC as there appears to have been a mix up with my tax somewhere. That is stressing me a bit but hopefully easily sorted- if they answer their phonelines that is. Hmm

Hope everyone has a lovely day. Smile

Peridot1 · 11/09/2023 08:35

Morning all.

Welcome @autumnangel. This is a lovely thread and I have found it so helpful over the last few years to encourage me to just keep chipping away at things and even if I don’t feel I achieve much at times just doing a little job each day really helps keep things chugging along.

Have a lovely holiday @petalpower. Hope the cooler weather means the dog enjoys lovely walks. Although I’m disappointed it’s cooled down. I love the heat.

Over the weekend I stripped DS’s bed and washed his bedding and his duvet and have started on his pillows. Was hoping I would manage to fit his mattress topper into the machine but it’s too big so need to take that to the dry cleaners this week. I packed up his returns and will take them to post office tomorrow. And while looking for a nail clippers on Saturday I cleared out one of my bedside drawers.

I’m going up to London this morning for a skin check which is something I have been meaning to do for a few years now. And hopefully a bra fitting at Bravissimo. And a nice potter around some shops. Don’t think I will achieve much at home though!

Have a great day all and enjoy your lunch out @ThunderclapCloud. Hope HMRC answer the phone @SummerLobelia .

petalpower · 11/09/2023 09:32

It’s definitely cooler here today in coastal North Norfolk. A bit of a relief but sad that it was probably the end of the warm weather for the year. Hoping to go for a beach walk later but I’ve got a problem with my ankle and have been told not to overdo it by the physio. It’s been going on since about March and is only improving very slowly. So annoying. Makes me feel like an old lady!
Welcome @autumnangel ! This is a lovely friendly and supportive place.

Aria999 · 11/09/2023 13:54

Hi @autumnangel that sounds like a good plan! Good luck!

Someone said (on here I think) that every task is two tasks (the task itself and the clearing away); this has become my mantra to self and kids. From the kids it doesn't achieve much more than an eye roll but maybe with enough repetition...

I got DS room tidy and sorted eventually. We have agreed if he can keep it tidy for a month he can have a loft bed. This gives me a problem in fact, because I want to keep popping in and putting away the odd thing on the floor to keep it nice, but if I do this then he isn't doing it himself...

Financial spreadsheet and toilet fixing are still on this week's list!

SummerLobelia · 11/09/2023 15:12

Afternoon!

Dr appointment - tick. Some further investigations required but I feel confident we are almost there.

HMRC- tick - a lovely man helped me out and it turned out they had sent me a letter in error saying I owed them money. I don't. I'm in credit. So that will help me sleep more soundly tonight!

Hope your skin check went well @Peridot1

Hope you have a great trip away @petalpower and I like the sound of a loft bed @Aria999 !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/09/2023 15:39

Morning all. 😄
A bit tired here with painting, but making good progress. Will finish a room today, get through half another and maybe almost finish last wall in dining area. Had a lot of repair on that one.
After that it's the a bedroom closet and closet with the washer and dryer. I think that's all I'll manage before the floor contractors arrive, but I'll be satisfied. Still need to pack up and move everything except furniture for the work to be done.
Looks like everyone is managing to sort and organizes as well. Just starting somewhere is key, isn't it? 🤓

ThunderclapCloud · 12/09/2023 07:58

Morning all!
I can't even begin to contemplating house painting @Mumtobabyhavoc let alone with a small child in tow (or in the house anyway)

Hope appointment went well @Peridot and I hope DS is settling in. Hope you slept better @@SummerLobelia and how lovely that you are in credit! I had a credit this year that almost matched DH's debit. Just less than £20 (in the tax man's favour though)
I have my hmrc cheque to bank today as I didn't apply for an online rebate quickly enough. This is why I need this thread!

Morning @autumnangel how did you get on yesterday? I like @Aria999's two task reminder. Makes note for self 🤔

Sorry about your old lady's knee a @petalpower I imagine this is why you do aqua aerobics! Hope you've had a fab time despite it! It's my back that's troubling me but so far my knees are holding me up. I foolishly let tai chi slide after being committed for two weeks.

Lovely time with my friend yesterday and the world thoroughly put to rights. We are similarly sandwiched and I like to think we gave one another wise counsel 😎

@RunningKatie have you been to the gym again? Is this a new term fit of spare time and enthusiasm or have you grand plans?

I achieved nowt of note yesterday but today is a new one. Saying that a couple of important phone calls got made, I supported one of my daughters with a decision that's been worrying her and DS has booked flights for a visit soon, so it was a good day. And i did get a meal on the table and DH took charge of the washing.

Wishing you all good things for today 💐

Peridot1 · 12/09/2023 08:31

Morning all.

I had a nice time up in that London Town yesterday. Skin check went ok. A couple of areas of potential concern sent off for a closer look. And an area of what I thought was acne rosacea on my cheek may be something else so that’s being looked at too. Then a bra fitting and a purchase of two new bras and a sports bra. A bit of a potter about and then home. Was shattered when I got back for some reason.

@Aria999 - I managed to avoid DS even wanting a loft bed when he was younger as I hated the thoughts of trying to make it up!

@SummerLobelia - hope further investigation goes ok and well done on the HMRC success.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I am very impressed with your wall repairs and painting. Our utility room desperately needs doing and I am contemplating doing it myself. DH would always go the route of getting someone in to do it though.

@ThunderclapCloud sounds like you achieved quite a bit yesterday with putting the world to rights and helping your DD with a decision.

Today I need to do quite a lot of bitty stuff.

  • Take DS’s returns
  • laundry
  • tidy kitchen and clean worktops
  • think about food for the week as need a bit of a shop
  • fill garden waste bin as it’s being picked up tomorrow so have some pots to empty
  • tidy my bedroom which is a bit of a mess
  • possible charity shop run
  • ironing

I should also go to the gym.

autumnangel · 12/09/2023 09:16

Thank you all for your lovely warm welcomes, you are all so kind. Everyone sounds like they are getting so much done. I’m very easily distracted and rarely finish anything. Which is probably half the reason this house is in such a guddle.

The lovely weather has well and truly left us here in central Scotland which I’m not sad about at all since Autumn is my most favourite season. This week I’m going to concentrate on outside. All I managed to do yesterday was take the bunting down that’s been up since the coronation. Not much needs to be done outside, just some weeding, planting winter bulbs and a general tidy up but I’ll rope DP in to help after work later in the week. Yesterday I also deleted 100 photos from my phone and deleted all unnecessary spreadsheets from my laptop. I do love a spreadsheet so there were quite a few.

This morning I’ve got some work things to do before I have to actually go to work. However, I’m determined to do at least one small job so I’m going to download Vinted and try to get to grips with it again so I can hopefully sell some things on there.

Hope everyone has a lovely day

ThunderclapCloud · 12/09/2023 10:00

@autumnangel you are definitely one of us if you still had coronation bunting up. (Well some of us! I never got any up in the first place!)

I forgot @SpiritOfEdna ! Sorry! Morning Edna 👋

Aria999 · 12/09/2023 15:36

@autumnangel I also love a spreadsheet!

@Peridot1 hope nothing too scary on your face ☹️. I have vetoed a full height loft bed for that exact reason. He had full on bunk beds for a brief period and it was impossible so i took the top one away.

but you can get half height ones which are roughly armpit height for me with a pull out desk and a space underneath for a den. DD has just got one (minus the desk, hers is the ikea one with curtains that looks like a market stall) so DS has bed envy!

Peridot1 · 12/09/2023 16:28

@Aria999 the lower height loft bed seems way easier for sure.

Thankfully nothing too scary on my face. It’s just a bit inflamed. It’s definitely better than it was but I may need an antibiotic cream. And the others just need to be looked at again in three months.

I seem to have achieved lots today. Quick supermarket run. Filled garden waste bin which meant removing the bedding plants that were past themselves. Cut back some roses in pots that all seem to have had a fungus. Tidied my bedroom and finally cleared out a desk tidy that has been sitting in a chest of drawers for months. Cleared out a drawer in said chest of drawers and got rid of some long sleeved tops. Then did some ironing.

phew!

RunningKatie · 12/09/2023 18:04

Wowsers, you've all been so productive and I'm sitting here channelling my inner sloth.
Yesterday I ordered 2 gifts for a November birthday and a Christmas tshirt for me. Passports are being dispatched so all good for the trip to see Father Christmas!
Dd has just announced she has no clean school tops for tomorrow, so that's excellent news. I sense washing in my very near future.

SummerLobelia · 12/09/2023 19:54

Evening!

I have also achieved a satisfactory amount. Some serious cleaning downstairs and decluttered our dining room table (again) so we can actually eat and do homework there. It was strewn with tax stuff. Then I changed our bedsheets and washed them. Tomorrow I plan to tackle upstairs and the DCs playroom (also again).

SummerLobelia · 12/09/2023 20:47

I have even written a list for tomorrow.

It says;

  • clean down stairs 30 minutes
  • clean upstairs 45 minutes (includes windows)
  • clear play room 30 minutes
  • collect stuff for tip
  • book tip trip

Not very detailed, but I need generalities today.

ThunderclapCloud · 13/09/2023 08:35

Morning all 👋

@Peridot1 pleased nothing is sinister. Did you go privately for this check? A very good idea.

I'm enjoying your timings @LateSummerLobelia!

I'm so thrilled it's cooler here. Woke up cold in the night but that is easier to fix!

@RunningKatie there was a bit of slothing round here yesterday too. Though with a young family just the day to day is busy without any add-ons. No arguing now!
Are you going to Lapland?!! 🎉

I have no such excuse but I haven't felt all that well for several days and I've taken a few days annual leave to rest up a little and get some jobs done. DH is joining me Friday and Monday 😊 Then i have bagsied a few more days when my lad comes over in a few weeks. Beginning to find my job a little bit too physical and my back is feeling all the driving too. I just don't know what to do instead. DH is all for me being at home as i help mum out a lot and he likes to be pampered. Young MN would be shocked but there's no reason that i couldn't do that at our ages. He's a darling - just fancies having his breakfast made of a morning and knows I'd like to potter about more. This week might be thinking time...
