Morning everyone...

I hope so much your mum is totally on the mend @ThunderclapCloud and that she (and YOU!!!!) get the support you need. Such a stressful thing for you. Thanks Very very best wishes.

Thanks also to @Peridot1 for your situation. So very difficult when family members become older. 💚

Not much to report here.

best wishes to everyone. Hope you all have a lovely lovely day.

ThunderclapCloud · 28/08/2023 06:08

Thank you @SummerLobelia! I hope all is well in your household 💐

I am working hard on managing stress. The tai chi is helping! I hope I will stick to it. The considered breathing and slow movements feel powerful.

My car is somehow full of grot and things that shouldn't be there. Next up: be one of those people who has a clean and empty car!
I think dealing with that today can be my main project.

Happy bank holiday everyone. Its doesn't look much like the sun is going to shine.

Peridot1 · 28/08/2023 09:00

Morning all.

Hope @petalpower had a fabulous weekend camp out.

We had a busy weekend here. Friends over for dinner on Friday night and then a friend staying on Saturday night until yesterday afternoon. DS got back from his holiday with a bag of washing. And I didn’t do much washing over the weekend so I have a bit of a backlog now. First load already in and thankfully it’s dry today so can get it dried outside.

Today’s plan is washing, ironing and sorting through a pile of clothes for charity bags.

DS moves to Dublin next weekend so I am off there with him on Saturday for a few days so will be helping him get sorted and packed this week too.

Have a great day all.

SummerLobelia · 28/08/2023 10:07

Morning all- also hope that the camp out was good @petalpower 🌲

Good luck on the car and the stress @ThunderclapCloud You have so much on your shoulders. Thanks

Hope the sorting and packing goes well @Peridot1

This week I am collecting things that I hope to sell at a car boot sale next weekend. Operation Declutter! 💰

petalpower · 28/08/2023 17:34

I am officially almost through the camping weekend and only have parents in law, dad and stepmother and son here as extras now. They all go home tomorrow. It has been a mammoth weekend of cooking and organising but so much fun and really lovely to see almost all of my husband’s side of the family bar one brother and one nephew. I have declared the kitchen now closed and that I’m not doing anything else for anyone today. Everyone is welcome to forage in the fridge for leftovers and help themselves but I’ve escaped to our bedroom for a bit of peace and quiet and to put my feet up for half an hour.

Peridot1 · 29/08/2023 08:21

Glad it went well @petalpower. Enjoy the calm when everyone has left!

I managed four loads of laundry yesterday which has made a good dent in the backlog. One load in already almost done this morning so will hang that out shortly.

I didn’t do any ironing but did start a good sort out in my walk in wardrobe which had become a real dumping ground. It’s a job I keep starting and not finishing so am going to try to keep at it this week.

Today’s jobs:

  • laundry - two loads
  • fold yesterday’s laundry
  • put away laundry
  • Take dog to vet for monthly jab
  • dentist to pick up my retainers as just finished Invisalign treatment
  • charity clothes bags to collection boxes
  • make hair appointment
  • 30 mins sorting stuff in wardrobe
  • maybe some itoning
  • book taxi for airport drop off and pick up next month

Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 29/08/2023 11:20

@ThunderclapCloud here's to a good recovery for your mum Flowers
@petalpower - in awe of the camping organisation - I was stressed getting organised for our 1 bank holiday visitor who I have just waved off. They are not too keen on spiritdoggo but we managed to keep her away despite her best efforts to snuggle up.

Most of our house 'glow up' is nearly finished now - new doors/bathroom window being fitted this week and fingers crossed the plumber will turn up to put the radiator back on the wall. All that will be left then is for the joiner to work out how to do the stairs and actually do the job.

Today's jobs:

  • buy bike locks so we can use our newly installed outdoor bike racks - DONE
  • strip beds and shove washing in the machine - IN PROGRESS
  • tidy away all the DIY stuff we've had out putting shelves and bike racks up
  • 1 gym session - DONE
  • chase the plumber re radiator
  • My bedroom is an absolute tip - need to start tidying that back up
  • pick up a dress I bought on Vinted
  • walk spiritdoggo
  • organise someone to come and look at a gutter that the downpipe has become disconnected from - DONE
Done some tasks post starting the list 😄 Have a good day all SoE
RunningKatie · 29/08/2023 15:51

Afternoon all, I'm on a stretch of 5 days off which is bliss. After a super long dog walk this morning I even had a little nap after lunch. Dh is due back soon so I'll have to shake the troops off their screens and pretend we've been wholesome all afternoon and they've not really had 2 hours on screens. He'll not care either way!

I've had a good tidy around this morning, so although I've barely done anything off my jobs list, the place is looking better than it did.
Hope your mum is doing ok @ThunderclapCloud
Congrats on the camping weekend! @petalpower
Hope all the flour has been cleaned up now @Mumtobabyhavoc - how are you feeling? You sound better than you did a few weeks ago.
I'm in awe of @SpiritOfEdna 's list as ever, although I have managed to evict two big spiders today which I am classing as a big win. DS was most impressed.

petalpower · 29/08/2023 20:08

Today I’ve done 5 loads of washing and managed to get most dried outside. Still another few loads to do tomorrow. So many beds to change! The house is almost straight again and there is very little leftover food which is good. A busy day of sorting things out.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/08/2023 23:09

Hi, Katie. Yes, thanks. Much better!!! 😃

SummerLobelia · 30/08/2023 03:53

Morning all,

I am so glad you are feeling so much better @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Awake early here and just having the middle of the night worries. Just generalised anxiety really and the middle of the night is no time to be thinking about things!!

I am looking at a career direction change (although tbh it's too fancy a word to say 'career' as I am just looking to move to work that I don't have to worry and stress over and which just brings in a bit of money to keep life ticking over). But worries about juggling working out of the house and everything else have taken over. But I guess the only thing I can do is potter along and try and make things work as they go.

But for today I just need to make sure that I have a good day with the family. We had thought a visit to the cinema (as the school holidays are coming screaming to an end) but no-one can agree on what film to see!

I hope everyone is well and has a very good day. Apart from family things I need to do the pre-cleaners clean and tidy today as well as put the spare / ironing/ play room back together as DS1 was looking for his Nintendo switch and turned it upside down.

Hope everyone has a great day!

SummerLobelia · 30/08/2023 07:32

Morning again- I have more equilibrium than when I posted earlier. Took the Dcs to get a McDonalds breakfast and watch the sunrise at the beach. Always good. Smile

Just back now and DH does not even realise we had gone and is still slumbering!

On to start an epic day of housework.

Peridot1 · 30/08/2023 08:20

Other than your middle of the night worries @SummerLobelia I love the start of your morning with McDonald’s breakfast and a beach sunrise! How lovely!

@SpiritOfEdna your house must have had a complete renovation by now!

I carried on with my wardrobe tidy up yesterday. Actually found the floor! Some more to be done but it’s much better than it was.

Today’s list:

  • general tidy up pre cleaners
  • strip a bed
  • put washing away
  • change an appointment I made for tomorrow for a full mole check
  • book taxi to airport
  • go to the gym (still haven’t been!)
  • make hair appointment
  • make brown soda bread as buttermilk goes out of date today
  • pick blackberries

That will be enough for the day I think!

RunningKatie · 30/08/2023 08:57

Morning all, the sunrise sounds so lovely @SummerLobelia - glad to hear some equilibrium has been restored.
Today's tasks are:
Make shortbread with dc
School shoes shopping
Passport photos
Pay in cheque
Library

Most of them are planned in for the afternoon so this morning is paperwork and possibly stripping beds to wash although the tv weather and the actual weather don't seem to be in agreement. It feels rather cool out.

petalpower · 30/08/2023 09:38

How’s your mum doing @ThunderclapCloud ?

SpiritOfEdna · 30/08/2023 12:29

@peridot1 - for the inside of the house probably; but some of it is long overdue! 😃The bathroom window and doors have just arrived. But we are nearly done.

I need to get in gear for work - have been procrastinating this morning...

Today's task:

  • tidy up ten more things in my bedroom
  • decide where the prints are going back up on the walls
  • dead head the plants in the garden
  • bike locks are arriving today so can put the bikes outside and not worry about them being stolen (or at least making it not so easy for them) - forgot to order bike covers though, I'll do a Halfords trip when I have time.
  • find someone to do a boiler service and gas fire certification
That's it for today, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/08/2023 15:42

Summer, Peridot, Katie, Spirit you are off and running!
Have stalled in my closet endeavours. I did manage to sand the wall part I filled and then apply another layer of fill. I will eek away at repairing it today/tomorrow. I drove to hardware store to buy screws and possibly shelf brackets yesterday also, but decided I was too tired/hungry to go in and needed to get home to make dinner, anyway. Will be passing by today and will stop in for needed items. I did get a bit of energy last night and filled a quite a few wall dings and did a bit of sanding wall edges and a bit of two baseboards. Then vacuumed. Slowly, but surely.

petalpower · 30/08/2023 19:00

Hope all the preparations for DS’s move to Dublin continues to go well @Peridot1 . What an exciting adventure for him after all he has been through (if I remember correctly).
Your house must look amazing now @SpiritOfEdna ! You’re always doing so much.
Hope you’re not too tired today after your sleepless night @SummerLobelia . Before I finished teaching I had some dreadful nights worrying about things. It’s rubbish.
Do you think you’re through the dreaded Covid now @Mumtobabyhavoc ? You’re another one who always to achieve an impressive amount!
Dud you manage to get your washing done @RunningKatie ? We had a couple of really heavy showers here this afternoon but I managed to get 3 loads done and almost dry.

petalpower · 30/08/2023 19:08

I posted the last bit before it disappeared and I lost the whole message.
Today I’ve:

  • met a friend for a dog walk
  • done 3 more loads of washing (I think I’ve seen the bottom of the laundry basket but don’t tell anyone!)
  • cleaned two bathrooms
  • cleared and cleaned the fridge and froze some leftovers for future consumption
  • visited care home auntie
  • replied to various family emails and WhatsApp messages
  • helped DS with reference request for his new job
  • also had a session of just putting things away that were in the wrong place or needed throwing out
Forgot to mention @ThunderclapCloud in my last message. Hope you’re ok my sandwich sister.
Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/08/2023 20:16

Spirit, we're definitely recovered from bout #3 of this year, but I am feeling quite anxious about Havoc's school and gymnastics starting in a couple weeks. We caught it the last two times outdoors at the playground after interacting with one sick kid (not even that obvious: snotty nose) for less than 5-10 mins. So, I'm rather shaken; especially since it was no walk in the park for any of us each time we've had it.

Very impressed with lists here!!!
I'm getting ready for an appt and trying to psych myself up for sanding and painting later. Ugh.

Peridot1 · 31/08/2023 08:31

@petalpower - yes you do remember correctly. DS had a hard few years missing a lot of school with daily migraines. Did his GCSEs at home with an invigilator. So to see him through all of that is brilliant. Not much achieved with his packing and prep as he has a rotten cold but need to get him on it today.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - maybe try taking some kind of immunity booster? Especially coming into winter and with school etc.

I did five loads of washing yesterday. Got some dried outside. Did the pre cleaners tidy up. Stripped two beds. And I went to the gym! Finally!

Today’s tasks:

  • washing - one load done and hung in boiler room and a load of towels in currently
  • fold and put away yesterday’s laundry
  • ironing
  • a bit more tidying in wardrobe/bedroom
  • make brown bread
  • do something with all of the tomatoes I have

And I feel a nap in my future today as I’ve been awake since 4.30.

Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 31/08/2023 09:55

We definitely look well maintained !
Today

  • new patio doors being fitted today, new bathroom window tomorrow
  • waiting for gutter guy to come and fix downspout
  • try and book my car in somewhere for a tire check - I have had 3 new tires in 2 months and now the warning light is on again.
  • continue to tidy up bedroom - tidy away another 10 things. It really needs a day to sort out so aiming for general tidying now and blitzing on Saturday.
  • post ebay sales out -DONE
Have a good day all,SoE
petalpower · 31/08/2023 12:33

If you’ve got alloys it might be worth getting them checked @SpiritOfEdna . We had a problem a while ago where the alloys degraded and damaged the tyres. Just a thought!

SpiritOfEdna · 31/08/2023 12:48

@petalpower funny you should mention the alloys as when I had an issue last summer they muttered about the alloys; so that has rung a bell. (another tire company, I've been through them all) I've just checked the cost and they are not as spendy as I thought. Will see what latest guy says, I've just run out and checked the car and one wheel is particularly scuffed....

Edited to add: I hate being without a car!

petalpower · 01/09/2023 11:44

Horrible rainy day here today. I’ve done 4 baskets of ironing which has cleared everything from the camping weekend. Off for lunch with old friends shortly which will be lovely.
