Morning everyone! Apologies, I've been reading but not writing. Loving all that you've been achieving!
Mum is home and so I've had my hands full. It's not too bad. She can do things for herself albeit very slowly, but I'm anxious about leaving her alone for any length of time. I know she's feeling better as she's beginning to get a bit irritable at me 'hovering' so I'm stepping back a little from today.
I have been consistently doing the tai chi and just discovered that i can get YouTube on the TV ( am very slow!) And i found a walking aerobics class on there as well which is much more energetic than it sounds! I was looking for something to keep me fit without injuring myself and these two things seem to fit the bill 😊

Sorry, i haven't really got lost and wondered into the exercise forum!

I'm on my way out to see to mum now but will catch up properly later on. But it sounds like you're all doing really well and best wishes to you all with house maintenance and gardening, end of school hol stuff, sons going to uni, school starts, sandwich situations and anything else I've missed!

Glad you're all here 💕

RunningKatie · 02/09/2023 11:10

Morning all - last weekend before the schools are back, and it's a gorgeous day, so I've got washing on and I've booked a holiday!
Next I need to get DH to double-check all the documents we need to send off for passports and I'll take a slow walk down to the Post Office to send them off.
Going to drag the troops out for some fresh air later, and maybe get some bulbs planted.
Glad to hear your mum is home @ThunderclapCloud - hope you can step back, it's a hard juggling act

ThunderclapCloud · 02/09/2023 15:11

I forgot @LateSummerLobelia's potential career change! Sorry!

👋 @RunningKatie how exciting to have booked a holiday!
This time of year feels like a fresh start to me, more so than January 1st. I wonder if it's about the new school year 🤔
Those who have term starting tomorrow- it's mixed feelings time isn't it? I did love the holidays and always looked forward to them...and then the last week felt very long!

I saw to my mum today - she has carers twice a day but it's not enough just at the moment. She badly wants to be cooking for herself but we find if we leave her to it she just makes toast. I'm hoping if i do some meals to freeze that she'll consider reheating those akin to actual cooking. She is very anti shop bought ready meals having been an excellent cook for as long as I can remember. So that is my project today.

Cleaned the car out too. Might hoover it tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/09/2023 16:13

Morning all 😊
Quite tired here... 🥱Lots to do, though.
Reading updates and wishing everyone well.
Looks like a new thread soon. 🤓

Have bought more paint, but not feeling motivated. Need a bit of a push.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/09/2023 05:53

9:00pm: put Havoc in bath then sanded one part of wall and baseboard where I had filled wall dings and smoothed baseboard corners and vacuumed.
While in bath Havoc emptied entire bottle of baby wash and appeared to have a lovely time with bubbles. 😂

Will paint tomorrow unless I get a second wind and decide to do it later tonight once Havoc is asleep. Schedule is way off as nap today was until 5:00pm and I was so tired that I slept, too.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/09/2023 00:53

Filled some more wall dings with spackle and sanded some already filled and a bit of baseboard. No wall or baseboard painting yet until spackle is set and sanded.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/09/2023 04:53

Managed to paint 3/4 of entry hall and a bit of bathroom!!!! Looks bright and clean. 😁
It's just white over white atm, but l

SummerLobelia · 04/09/2023 06:21

Morning all. Hope everyone is well.

I hope your mum is okay @ThunderclapCloud .. such a stress for you right now. Thanks Cooking some meals for her freezer sounds ideal.

That's alot of DIY @Mumtobabyhavoc .. you sound tired... and babyhavoc sounds very very clean after all those bubbles!

Hope all are well.

Not much to report here. Went to a car boot sale yesterday to sell stuff. Afte I had paid for entry and two cups of coffee I made a profit of... £1.00.

Oh well- at least the stuff had an outing. Hmm

Stuff will be charity shopped today!

Otherwise back to school tomorrow. I will do some batch cooking myself to make things easier for the next few weeks.

RunningKatie · 04/09/2023 10:08

Ah @Mumtobabyhavoc - your place sounds amazing, you're working so hard on it. I'm looking around and we really need to clean and spruce up our living room, DH is very much of the thought that we've decorated it twice. We have lived here 11 years though, I think it's due a refresh!

The sunshine is absolutely glorious here, DC2 back to school tomorrow so has the grumps going on. I dare not mention getting out schools bags/uniform, I'll save that for later.

The car boot does not sound a winner @SummerLobelia - I've done a couple years ago and found that so many people wanted something for nothing, plus the hassle that I gave up. Everything gets charity shopped now!

SpiritOfEdna · 05/09/2023 12:05

hello: couple of busy days here, just listed another load of stuff on ebay and just packing up for delivery the stuff that got snapped up

  • new window in, but now needs a plastering job around the surround - contacted someone to come in and do it. The guy is coming back this afternoon to supply the key and remove some silicon left on the window.
  • booked in a boiler service and putting back a radiator on the wall that the builders who were in doing the damp course can't be bothered to come back and fit it. I need to clean that radiator today before it goes back on the wall though it has paint on the back. They can come tomorrow
  • need to order a new shelf to go over the radiator - we ordered the wrong size, but the wrong sized one can go elsewhere!
  • need a trip to JL to pick up a new collar for spiritdoggo - and return another one.
  • SpiritDoggo has lost another set of name tags - she only had a new one Saturday - no idea what she is doing to lose them. Need to sort that out today.
  • I asked the house to return my lost debit card today and it did! DONE 😄

Tyres: only cost 20 quid to fix as it was the sealant - but he did say the alloys were causing the issue and to get them sandblasted, rather than new I dont know how I am going to find the time to get that done!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/09/2023 17:58

Katie, not exactly amazing, but fresh paint and fixing rough spots/dings etc gives everything such a lift and is relatively affordable. I've watched lots of YT vids and learned a bit from a cousin a few years ago who was a carpenter/jack of all trades, so feel pretty confident with spackle and a sander or sanding block. 🤣🤣🤣 Lots of trial and error and I've used every swear word known....
Spirit, good accomplishments and glad you found your card. Lucky on the tyres! Please don't wait to get the other done so you don't end up in a bad spot.
Spiritdoggo, what are you doing with your tags? 🤔

Fell asleep around midnight and was awake at5:45. 🤬Finally got out of bed at 7:30am and painted a wall in living/dining area and finished painting adjoining wall to kitchen; then sanded another wall that I filled yesterday so it's looking ready to be painted. All before Havoc woke up!!!🏅
Plan is to finish dining area wall and, hopefully, dining area today. (Fingers crossed. Weirdly, the emoji has disappeared.)

ThunderclapCloud · 06/09/2023 06:35

@SpiritOfEdna I think you could bottle and sell some of your energy! I would buy some 😊
@Mumtobabyhavoc I'm with @RunningKatie in that I find you an inspiration!
We don't do enough home maintenance round here. I aspire to be a person with a neat and well maintained home. I'd actually like a smaller one but DH isn't willing to downsize yet. If we stay we really will need to spend money on windows, roof, kitchen and carpet. In the meantime a carpet clean, gutter clean and some weeding are all in my future.
Just seen the time!! Work beckons. Have a great day all xx

SpiritOfEdna · 06/09/2023 10:40

@ThunderclapCloud I go to bed knackered!

  • lovely heating guy is here sorting out the radiator and boiler service. I'd misheard the total cost as just the cost of putting the radiator back on the wall so a win-win today.
  • Need to go to the post office to sort out sending my passport out to a pension provider.
  • Busy day at work, so in between meetings I have 5 minute breaks in to do some ironing and sort out the floors
Have a good day, SoE
RunningKatie · 06/09/2023 10:45

Busy work day here too! I've managed to sweep through downstairs and finish the ironing pile. Dh has planted 3 bulbs so only another 2 packets to go, we're tag teaming the weeding and planting.
The sun's just starting to peek through, looks like another lovely day.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/09/2023 16:25

Morning all 😊
Nothing exciting... just painting still. Began painting a dining area wall after some minor sparkle and sanding. Couldn't continue as too bothered by another wall imperfection and couldn't bring myself to ignore it. Ended up repairing it, and leaving it to dry overnight, so painted a bedroom wall instead. Making progress on my all-white transformation, though. Slowly, but progress nonetheless.

Aria999 · 06/09/2023 16:39

@RunningKatie yay holiday! Where are you going?

@Mumtobabyhavoc impressed by your wall fixing and glad you are feeling better!

@SpiritOfEdna wow as always! It would take me a week to do what you get done in a day!

@Peridot1 that's a lot of washing! I am behind on folding as usual. DH is gently threatening to do it for me if I don't get on with it as he needs clothes for his trip. (He does it fairly effectively but doesn't fold how i like things folded (thinks my laundry boards are mildly entertaining) and generally puts at least a few things away in the wrong places).

@ThunderclapCloud , @petalpower hi!

Yesterday I spent the morning sorting out signing our wills and a guardianship paper for the kids as if we both die, family would have trouble taking them back to the uk. Over here you need a notary as well as witnesses; our attorney had done some other documents while we were at it like living will and power of attorney; and it basically took all morning. DH had allowed 15 minutes and had to cancel a meeting.

Today I have the bi-annual window cleaning. It's taken me two hours to make all the (35) windows accessible (especially in the kids rooms where I had to start by tidying paths into the room). I am a bit annoyed as there are 2 windows he says he can't reach the outside of (they managed it last time), and if I want the storm windows done it's extra

Hoping to make it to ikea this afternoon as part of the never ending quest to make it possible to put all DS stuff away., but it will depend how long the window cleaning takes.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Peridot1 · 07/09/2023 09:35

Morning all. Have just had a quick catch up read of the thread after a few days break.

Just back from Dublin depositing DS there for the year. Feels very odd to know he is there and I am here! All seems to be going well and his accommodation is nice. He is already talking about coming home for a weekend at the end of the month. Which I’m not sure is a good idea. But we will see!

I have quite a few bitty things to get done today. Have a wash on. Need to finish unpacking. Two items to pack up and return for DS. Want to strip his bed and wash mattress topper and pillows etc. Need to figure out what will fit in washing machine. Also need to arrange for sofas and rug to get cleaned. Place seemed a bit smelly when I came back yesterday.

Also need to do a proper list of things I need to do over next few weeks.

Have a good day all!

ThunderclapCloud · 08/09/2023 06:32

Morning all! I do so love these gentle littke snapshots into people's lives.
Some of what you achieve around jobs and children impresses me greatly ( and makes me feel inspired but a bit inadequate)

I am somewhat bamboozled by the notion of a husband threatening to do his own laundry folding @Aria999 ! I thought that was what we all aspire to 😂 Very well done on sorting your wills. God forbit that it becomes necessary but well worth the missed meetings ♥

@Peridot1 i know what you mean about noticing smells in the house when you've been away. I'm never sure if it just gets a bit stale when there is no activity about the place or if it is always like that and we just don't notice. Either way it always gets me scurrying about to freshen it up. Thinking of which, i should shampoo the carpets downstairs today as we have a few more days of hot dry weather forecast. Best wishes to you son. Have you an empty nest now or another still at home?

ThunderclapCloud · 08/09/2023 07:01

How has the term started for everyone? I drove past our local secondary school yesterday at home time and the year sevens always look so small and squeaky clean in their new uniforms.

I hope you are all well. I have let the heat and a few extra responsibilities get to me this week so I'm scuttling about while it's still cool just straightening the place up.

Eating out tonight but have got some meat out of the freezer to do things with in order that we have proper meals even when we're knackered. Store cupboard meal yesterday which i am grateful to be able to do, but it was because neither of us thought ahead!

So, a tidy up, a carpet shampoo, and changing sheets today and batch cook tomorrow.

Big love to you all and I hope you are surviving the heat and all your own responsibilities 💕

Peridot1 · 08/09/2023 09:51

@ThunderclapCloud - we are empty nesters! Well except for the dog.

I think every house has its own smell but ours definitely seems a bit stinky at the moment. I think it’s partly the dog and dog beds etc and where she lies on rugs and lies against the sofas. And our cooker always smells. Even after I’ve had the ovens cleaned. It’s a Smeg gas stove and I think it leaks somewhere so when I walk past it I smell stale oil. Hoping to replace it next year anyway so have to put up with it till then.

Second wash of the day on here. First wash is on the line.

We have bbq on the menu here till the weather breaks. Last night was burgers and sausages with potato salad and coleslaw. Tonight it’s lamb chops and baked feta and salad. Tomorrow it’s a spatchcock chicken that is taking up space in the freezer with salad and corn and new potatoes. Sunday is steak I think.

I didn’t get many of my jobs done yesterday as I managed to get an appointment with my hairdresser due to a cancellation. So the grey is hidden a bit again and she did a nice cut.

Today’s list:

  • washing - nearly done
  • pack DS’s returns and take to post office
  • strip DS’s bed
  • book upholstery and carpet cleaner
  • wash a dog bed cover

I have ironing to do but it’s too hot.

have a great day all.

Aria999 · 08/09/2023 13:47

Today:

Finish sorting out DS room
Google how to fix toilet
Update our financial spreadsheet

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/09/2023 18:42

Is is wrong for me to feel a bit snubbed that I didn't get a dinner invite, Peridot? 🤣🤣🤣
meals at yours sound great!!!!😄😄😄

Managed to paint over a darker wall yesterday (last night and this morning before Havoc woke up); took three coats of paint! Rollered last bit of paint around the bit of wall around bedroom door and across a couple baseboards.
Painted yesterday while Havoc napped on the couch, but when Havoc woke up I saw diaper had leaked so had to steam clean couch...but, it least cleaning the couch was on my "to-do" list. 🤷‍♀️
Asked flooring consultant to pop by with foreman to finalize schedule and glad I did. Consultant quoted 3-4 days work, but foreman said 4-5 days. Ugh. We have to vacate while work is being done as it won't be a safe environment for a toddler. We should be able to return day 4 as everything will almost be done. Packing up everything etc is making me feel like I'm moving. The good thing is that I'm sorting and purging things.

Beautiful sunny and cool day here!

Peridot1 · 08/09/2023 21:11

You would be very welcome @Mumtobabyhavoc!
