I hope the weather has improved for all of you. We've mostly had sun here with rain overnight. Did your son have a smooth flight @Peridot1 ? I'd love to go to Croatia. It looks absolutely beautiful!
Hope all is well with your family @petalpower (sandwich sister) I'm finding most of my friends of my vintage are dealing with elderly family members now. And grandchildren.
Best wishes to everyone. Off to write a list of projects to do today 💐

Peridot1 · 20/08/2023 08:24

Morning all.

thanks for the tai chi link - will definitely have a look at that. I think the key is little and often with starting exercise . I just need to remember that as I’m an all or nothing person and that usually becomes nothing!

@RunningKatie - I wish I was a swimmer. I’m contemplating booking some aqua aerobics which is as far as I’ll get I think.

I actually did all of the jobs on my list yesterday! Unheard of!

@ThunderclapCloud - DS made it to Croatia- says it’s very hot. It’s his first holiday without us so hope he has a good time. I’m quite jealous although they are packing a lot in - quite a bit of moving around.

I am not planning much today. Weather looks good so I will pick some more blackberries, do one load of laundry and sit in the garden with my book. BBQ this evening for dinner.

Happy Sunday all.

petalpower · 20/08/2023 09:58

I love my aqua aerobics class @Peridot1 and am definitely not any sort of swimmer either.
Family still bumbling along thank you @ThunderclapCloud . DS a bit better but my dad is causing a bit of concern. It’s slightly complicated by step family dynamics too but we can only do what we can do and there is no magic wand. Next weekend is our mega family camping get together that we host each year so I’ve gone into full organisational list mode. Guests from Thursday until Tuesday, some staying in the house and some camping in the garden. Each day I will be catering for 20, 30 or 40. This year I have delegated more than previously but there’s still lots to do.

petalpower · 20/08/2023 10:00

We’re away visiting friends for a couple of days at the moment too. I have brought my master set of lists with me much to DH’s amusement.

ThunderclapCloud · 20/08/2023 10:36

Bloody hell @petalpower!! That camping trip would be my worst nightmare! Kudos to you ♥ Your deputy head/teaching skills coming in handy there! Impressed does not cover it!

RunningKatie · 20/08/2023 14:38

The camping sounds amazing @Peridot1 - I am in awe of you catering for masses.

Today I've put stuff into my new car, I had a proper clearout of stuff from the old car. 3 A-Zs of local cities, ranging in age from 1996 to 2003. Super useful. And two Tesco Baby and Toddler parking space permits, expired in 2015. Also super useful.

I'm having to sit down after all the excitement, but then I think I'm going to sit out in the garden labelling school uniform.

RunningKatie · 20/08/2023 14:39

Argh, sorry, @petalpower is the camping queen! Clearly I've not had enough coffee yet and need my new glasses.

petalpower · 20/08/2023 15:29

I obviously sleep in my own bed during the camping weekend (host privilege!) not in a tent. I am definitely not the camping type! We have hosted for the last 12 or so years ( before that it was at PIL house) and every year it gets a bigger event! There’s a bit of a tried and tested formula though and everyone is good at pitching in before you all think I’m some sort of marvel! 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/08/2023 01:29

Petal, your backyard camping reminds me of family reunions at my grandparents when I was a kid. What a nice tradition you are keeping. ☺️

Resumed painting today and front hall closet is practically done! I am just painting the shelf. I touched up the shelf of one of the bedroom closet shelves also. Plan is to sort boxes before putting them back into closet. It means sorting Christmas lights...
If things go perfectly I will clear out last bedroom closet tonight, wipe it out and do 1 coat of paint.

SummerLobelia · 21/08/2023 06:47

Morning all.

Yesterday I fed all the pot plants so hopefully they will get a late summer boost.

Today I have meetings in town but ought to be back home circa 1 pm and can get back to 'stuff'. Not sure what stuff is as yet!

Peridot1 · 21/08/2023 09:23

Morning all.

Your camping get together sounds amazing @petalpower.

@SummerLobelia - I should feed plants too. Not sure that they will flower again at this stage though. May feed the roses.

Lots to get done today. Mainly involving clearing the veg drawer and making soup. And picking more blackberries as DH is itching to cut the brambles back.

Have some flights to book and a hotel. And booked flights to Washington for November with my sister and niece so need accommodation for that.

Also need to strip DS’s bed and do some sorting in his room.

And book a guy to come and talk about some work we want doing in the house involving blocking up a door and building some storage/display cabinets along the wall. And built in wardrobes in DS’s room.

have a good day all.

petalpower · 21/08/2023 16:33

Forgive me for having a little self indulgent moment here. My lovely 23 year old son has being having a rough time with work issues over the last year up to the point it was really affecting his health. He made the brave move to resign from a job that was on paper his dream graduate role. Today he has heard that he has got another job in the same industry but with a competitor after many applications and several interviews where he missed out by a whisker. We are super relieved and very proud of him.

Peridot1 · 21/08/2023 17:11

Oh that’s brilliant @petalpower. Well done to him for recognising he was struggling and doing something about it. Hope he is much happier in his new role.

RunningKatie · 21/08/2023 17:16

That is great news @petalpower - no wonder you are so proud.
Day off today, spent with the dc, when I could wrestle them away from screens. I got out all the school uniform to label, brought it downstairs, threaded a needle and then found something more interesting to do.

RunningKatie · 23/08/2023 09:38

Left my washing and garden stuff out last night, and it's raining. Again. So frustrating.

We've got a new dining table, very exciting. I now need to get rid of the old table and chairs, that's a job for Saturday.

Peridot1 · 23/08/2023 10:15

Morning all.

That is so annoying @RunningKatie. I keep thinking I hear rain in the morning and jump up to check as our outdoor cushions are out too. Today is good though. Last one for a bit though I think. Rain tomorrow and lower temperatures from then on.

I tackled some of DS’s bedroom yesterday. A corner where stuff was piled up since we moved in pretty much. Spent hours afterwards sneezing like a loon due to the dust. About to tackle a small shelf unit. Cleaners are in today so they will be able to have a good go at it all. So much clutter!

Today’s jobs:

  • shelf unit in DS’s room
  • wash DS bedding (in machine now)
  • general house tidy for cleaners
  • bag some clothes up for charity
  • dispose of box of out of date protein shakes and supplements from DS’s room
  • ironing - only have five things so quick job

have a great day all.

SummerLobelia · 23/08/2023 10:21

Morning all.

I need to clean for the cleaners. DH is fixing the fish pond pump. DCs have playdates tomorrow with pizza. I have to complete some reading for a meeting I have on Friday.

Clearly with all that on I am still in bed. Hmm In my defence I have done something to my back and I am in some pain. Nothing too major, but quite debilitating.

Aria999 · 23/08/2023 13:53

Awesome news @petalpower congratulations to him!

ThunderclapCloud · 24/08/2023 14:52

We finally got rain. Currently grateful for all my youngest being in a good place as mum had another fall and is in hospital.
I'm finding coping with it quite stressful as different departments looking at her are saying different things.
The people dealing with heart failure cheerfully told me she's ready for discharge.
I asked what her mobility is like and they didn't know. They weren't aware of the head injury she sustained on the way down either.
So then I got a call from the frailty team to tell me that she can't get out of bed on her own. Hopefully she's going into a rehabilitation unit.
Been running back and forth to hospital all week and my siblings are coming up with all sorts of suggestions of things that I should be doing. They of course are too busy to do anything useful themselves but are happy to make my life harder 🤬

So i have not done much round the house. DH is wonderful and supportive as always. Our youngsters have been lovely too and have helped me do some work in her house and garden. Today I'm not visiting because work was hard this morning and I'm weary.

Reading a book instead.
Best wishes to all!

ThunderclapCloud · 25/08/2023 07:00

We had the most wonderful loud thunderstorm yesterday. Has cleared the air a bit. I was feeling really irritable and snapping at nothing (poor DH!) I'm normally perfectly pleasant. Mum stress got the blame, and so instead of being stroppy back at me, he scooped me up and took me out for dinner ♥ The thunder and lightning with monsoon- like rain was a delight to behold, and my mood lifted considerably.

My user name suddenly feels very appropriate!

What are you all up to today? Oh did anyone start the tai-chi? I've managed stretches and a bit of tai chi every morning ( before coffee which I very recently shound not be imbibed within 90mins of first waking 🤯) I have also recently discovered 'planking' and the 30 day challenge so been doing that too.

Projects: i took delivery of some vaccum bags for storing clothes and bedding so need to do that today.

Sideboard in dining room need some attention as it's become a clutter magnet.

Couple of bits to go in loft and will try to get rid of some things that have sat around up there unnecessarily.

Have a lovely day everyone!

petalpower · 25/08/2023 08:50

So sorry to hear about your mum @ThunderclapCloud. What a difficult situation especially with regard to your siblings and the lack of joined up thinking at the hospital. Sounds as though dinner out was exactly what was needed. Your DH and family sound like superstars.
Our mega camping weekend starts today so I may be a bit absent from here for the next few days. My dad and stepmother and DD arrived yesterday but today lots of other family arrive. I have a huge Sainsbury’s delivery arriving in the next hour and then need to pick up all the meat from the butchers.
Have a good day all!

Peridot1 · 25/08/2023 09:24

Good luck with it all @petalpower. It sounds amazing.

Sorry to hear about your mum @ThunderclapCloud. Sounds very stressful. We are having similar with MIL. It is complicated by the fact she is DH’s step mum and married his late Dad when DH was an adult so there is no real bond there. I’m closer to her than he is. And also complicated by the fact she is in the NW and we are in the SE. Her niece is getting the brunt of it all. She calls me to keep me informed but there is not a lot we can do. If we go up MIL will dig her heels in about things even more than she is doing. She is incredibly stubborn and hates letting go of control anyway.

We are having people over for dinner tonight so I’m getting sorted for that today. I made dessert yesterday and DH will do most of the food. Then having a friend come and stay tomorrow night. Made enough dessert that should do both meals. A large Limoncello Tiramisu.

Have a good day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/08/2023 23:56

Thunder, sorry to hear about your mum. Frustrating that the right hand hasn't a clue about the left. 🤦‍♀️

Had a bout of unintentional cleaning today. Havoc got into my 20lb bag of flour. 'Nuff said. 🤷‍♀️

ThunderclapCloud · 27/08/2023 11:33

Morning everyone 👋
I appreciate the well-wishes for my mum. They aren't sending her to rehab now as she can now get out of bed and make it to the loo on her own. Hopefully (?) she'll be home on Tuesday. I am slightly anxious about this as I know she will need quite a lot of help from me even though she has carers in place.
Never made it to badminton class but i haven't forgotten. I saw a princessing thread about doing healthy things on style and beauty and plan to join that for some ideas.

I hope your family camping is lovely @petalpower 💕

@Peridot1 my goodness your mil situation sounds stressful! 🤯

Oh my @Mumtobabyhavoc that takes me back! You'll be finding pockets of flour for weeks 😂

Hope everyone is having a lovely bank holiday weekend
