Why on earth did Lisa Marie Presley marry MJ?

I know this is fully none of my business but I cannot understand why she married Michael Jackson.

Most press coverage alludes to it being a marriage of convenience to distract from the child abuse allegations against Jackson. That makes sense but if that's true, what was in it for her?

I could fully understand it if she was just some nobody trying to break into modelling/acting, or a C lister trying to climb up.

It's baffling.

disingenuous, she talked a lot about why she married him, you can read about it, how they remained friends after. they obviously related to each other. Tsk Tsk.

EightMonthsScared · 13/01/2023 20:43

@lljkk

Nope, not disingenuous. I don't get their relationship.

She loved him, that's why she married him. It's not baffling at all.

Coffeetableposhbooks · 13/01/2023 23:24

This is really inappropriate at this time. She married him as she loved him.

Celia24 · 13/01/2023 23:27

I dont know if it's as simple as 'love'.

Her dad was one of the biggest superstars of all time (who died young and she never really knew) and she happens to marry another biggest superstars of all time?

On some level I'd think she was trying to understand/know her father on some way through MJ and what his life was like. Not that far fetched imo.

Cut it out OP
She just died. Now isn’t the time to lay judgement on the choices she made while she was alive.
Shame

NashvilleQueen · 13/01/2023 23:29

Really? Two damaged people who had grown up in the full glare of the public eye with difficult family relationships getting together? Her next marriage was to a man known to have a fixation on her dead dad. None of it is normal but equally I can understand how the psychology works.

RJnomore1 · 13/01/2023 23:30

I think they both occupied a space very few of us can understand but I can understand her being drawn to one of the few men who could.

InternetRandom · 13/01/2023 23:30

They had both had a really strange childhood, in the spotlight, not initially necessarily by their own free choice. I can see why they'd relate to one another's weird experiences.

PacificallyRequested · 13/01/2023 23:32

I'd totally forgotten they were married until I read an obituary earlier. It does seem very odd.

HeadNorth · 13/01/2023 23:44

She thought she could heal and save him - a tale as old as time.

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2023 23:45

Nobody understood it at the time and still don't.

EightMonthsScared · 13/01/2023 23:50

I love the way everybody is being pearl-clutchy when everybody has been frothing over Harry and Meghan all friggin' week.

It's a normal thing to discuss. She was who she was (a good looking woman and heiress), Jackson wasn't exactly good looking and he was dogged by child molestation rumours.

IRL, everybody finds the partnership weird. It's pps who are being disingenuous.

LMP gave lots of interviews about her reasons for being friends with MJ, for marrying MJ & remaining his friend afterwards. It is very easy to find LMP's own words about why she loved him and reasons why they bonded. She wasn't ashamed to talk about it. MJ wasn't able to articulate so well but she explained very clearly.

They were both odd, he was extremely odd. They had 2 of the most rarified childhoods possible so not surprising we can't relate, can't know what they saw in each other.

Agree there was an element of people trying to rescue MJ in both his marriages.

I don’t think either of them died this ‘friggin’ week. Timing.

SpilltheTea · 14/01/2023 10:12

I don't know what you're struggling to comprehend, it's incredibly simple. It's only 'baffling' because the media told you so.

FixitJesus · 14/01/2023 10:15

Whats that got to do with anything? Neither of them tragically died leaving three children behind this week.

SprayedWithDettol · 14/01/2023 10:18

Your comprehension is not required OP.

EightMonthsScared · 14/01/2023 11:27

MN is so puritanical these days.

I'll go self-flagellate now, massive apologies. I'll wait an appropriate amount of time before I mention the probable paedophile she married again. <thumbs up>
