Why on earth did Lisa Marie Presley marry MJ?

EightMonthsScared · 13/01/2023 19:48

I know this is fully none of my business but I cannot understand why she married Michael Jackson.

Most press coverage alludes to it being a marriage of convenience to distract from the child abuse allegations against Jackson. That makes sense but if that's true, what was in it for her?

I could fully understand it if she was just some nobody trying to break into modelling/acting, or a C lister trying to climb up.

It's baffling.

I think Nick Cage marrying her is strange. He's obsessed with Elvis. I could never get my head around that.

I so feel for Priscilla. That poor woman losing her only child and grandson.

bellac11 · 14/01/2023 14:25

I think she said that herself, that he only married her as part of his Elvis collection

EightMonthsScared · 14/01/2023 14:30

@welcome2023 I wondered that this afternoon.

"how do you know everybody finds it weird?" 😂Well obviously @Tinkerbyebye , there are statistical anomalies like your good self who obviously believe the marriage was real and beautiful etc.

But how many couples do you know, famous or not, who were asked if they ever have sex (as they were by Diane Sawyer)? Or who suffered allegations of 'falsifying sex'?

@bellac11 Christ that's cold. I can imagine it's true though, I'd heard what @CuriousMama said before - that Cage was obsessed with Elvis.

She loved him, simple as that. That's why she has never bad mouthed him since, even though Oprah was chomping at the bit to get her to disclose some juicy details and seemed quite pissed off when Lisa Marie didn't play along. She did an interview after M J died and it's apparent they both loved one another. I lost my husband young and l could resonate with how she spoke about the aftermath , l found it quite touching from her perspective.
I think it's pretty obvious why they were drawn to one another, her father was the most popular artist in the world and M J wasn't far behind.
Both were searching for genuine love and she gives the impression that's what they shared.

Priscilla has a son, Navarone Garibaldi

There is no absolute solid gold proof that MJ was a paedophile.

There is not a shred of proof.

SylvanianFrenemies · 14/01/2023 16:13

I guess a genuine sexual and emotional connection.

Just kidding. Money and a desire to stay in the public eye?

Intrepidescape · 14/01/2023 16:34

At the time she married him he was accused of CSA. The marriage was never consummated and there were rumours he paid her. The rumours did not go away after she married him. I think it’s very very concerning she exposed her young son to him as he took his own life last year.

Even if you don’t believe MJ did what he was accused of - you surely have to second guess your opinion after you hear what his housekeeper had to say about it.

EightMonthsScared · 14/01/2023 16:35

"Just kidding"

😂

On another note, I wonder what it would take for people who don't believe him to be a paedophile, to believe it?

It reminds of a couple of years back. I stumbled across an article announcing the death of Jimmy Savile. So many comments on there saying 'ignore the naysayers, this man was a legend, Rip Jim, thanks for the laughs etc.'

SequinsandStilettos · 14/01/2023 16:46

There is not a shred of proof.
Except for the Occam's razor of why on Earth would a 44 year old share a bed with a 13 year old not related to him?

SylvanianFrenemies · 14/01/2023 16:52

Surely its perfectly normal and innocent for a man well into adulthood to become fixated on handsome pubescent boys, lavish gifts on them, share beds with them, and then lose interest once the boy gets into established puberty?

No?

TimeToFlyNow · 14/01/2023 16:52

No idea what she saw in him

Even if he wasn't a paedophile, he admitted to sleeping in his bed with young boys. I'd have ran a mile if I was her

EightMonthsScared · 14/01/2023 17:05

It's occams razor that convinces me. Famous, rich man has no genuine adult relationships but hangs out constantly with little boys. He also admits to having sleepovers with them and taking them on tour with him. They also agree that the above took place and also that he raped them.

I mean, talk about not joining the dots if you can't see the glaringly obvious truth re all of the above.

RosaMoline · 14/01/2023 17:09

Perhaps I should rephrase.
In my opinion (and this is just my personal opinion) he behaved inappropriately (on paper, I agree it looks extremely dodgy - a forty something man having young boys to sleepover)
But…MJ had a very dysfunctional childhood, and was not allowed to be a little boy, and was stuck in that childlike phase. I think he was actually asexual. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was on the spectrum actually.
The 2nd court case fell apart because none of the witnesses were credible. I also can’t believe Elizabeth Taylor would stand by a child molester either.
If ever evidence does come to light that he was a paedo, then I’m happy to hold my hands up and admit I was terribly wrong.
I am not making excuses for those molest children, so no need to be abusive and accusatory as per a previous PP.

Sarah2891 · 14/01/2023 17:09

Of course MJ was a paedo.

I agree OP, I don't get why she married him either. Just one of those weird showbiz pairings I guess.

SylvanianFrenemies · 14/01/2023 17:20

What evidence would you need?

Multiple compelling accounts from men who describe a similar pattern of grooming and abuse seemingly not enough.

I don't understand how anyone could watch James Safechuck's interviews and think he was lying.

bellac11 · 14/01/2023 12:18

Humans are social animals, we are interested in, fascinated and shocked by, feel empathy with, or anger toward other humans. Its normal and part of the human condition.

Thats why there are countless threads on this forum about what my mum did, my husband, my brother in law, my kids, this teacher, that neighbour, this politician, that celebrity, this shop assistant, that colleague, the list is endless

Perhaps you found yourself on a website about women and their moans/insights/questions about life when you meant to engage with a website forum about cycling or accounting or something?

Perhaps you do not have a clue what you are talking about.

Throwncrumbs · 14/01/2023 18:04

I was looking at pictures throughout the years of her yesterday, she only truly looked happy in photos with MJ, strange but true. Incredibly sad for her children to have this all played out. In the photos of her at the awards on Tuesday she looks very unwell, RIP

You’re saying he can’t be a pedo because he had a dysfunctional childhood and a 40 year old sleeping with little boys is normal for him?

Because these were staged photo shoots and he was paying her.

RoseThornside · 14/01/2023 18:26

I never understood it either and this was before it was generally discussed that MJ might be only sexually attracted to young boys. I never thought MJ was interested in women, certainly. I think Lisa-Marie was vulnerable, just as her father was actually - an inherited personality characteristic - and MJ liked the idea of joining their 'dynasties', not to mention hiding his actual sexuality.

EightMonthsScared · 14/01/2023 18:31

"Perhaps you do not have a clue what you are talking about."

What she said made sense to me @LadyKenya People like talking about psychological oddities or fascinating, unusual human dynamics. It's been that way since the dawn of time.

You're clearly on the wrong sort of thread for your interests. No need to be offensive to people.

MJ not interested in women? What about Tatiana Thumbtzen?
