I dislike the lurcher breed. They are trained to kill. I wouldn’t call for them to be banned but I think we need new legislation based on accountability.

They are not trained to kill people though, neither are they encouraged to act aggressive like some bully breeds are. Now that would be a problem.

I am from Germany and in the area where I am from you need special permission by your local police if you want to keep a so called "dangerous breed". You need to explain your motives why you want to have that kind of dog. You also need to register at the police station and your dog needs to be muzzled at all times. In order to get rid of the muzzle your dog needs to pass a special exam, in which it is checked if it has heightened aggression. I believe the owners also have to pay a higher rate of dog tax than owners of other breeds.

I hope the UK government also implements stricter rules in regards to dangerous breeds.

Sensible.

Teaandtoast3 · 13/01/2023 01:30

I don’t let my dog off her lead unless we book a private doggy field. I just don’t dare. Too much potential for something to go wrong. I do intensely dislike it when other dogs are allowed off lead and they get all up in our space. That seems to happen quite a lot at country parks. Mine got the arse with a spaniel because it wouldn’t stop jumping all around us… she only growled and told her quite firmly off but the stupid owner asked me what my dogs problem was 🤷‍♀️ we were sitting on a bench minding our own business with our dog firmly on the lead while the spaniel was going all bouncy and nuts.

My thoughts are with that girls family. It’s devastating

Moobae · 13/01/2023 03:49

Where does it mention the breed please?
I know people who have been bitten by sausage dogs, labs, jack russels but no doubt with your mention of breed you’re a typical ignorant, likely daily mail reader that will blame a big dog even though there is NO mention of the breed

Neither are bullies. Where is your evidence they are breed to eat people please?

And you don't get to police people speech. We can discuss or speculate a out whatever we like, inuding out of control dogs. As I said, I make a point of it as I think the issue needs to be discussed so that eventually something is done about humans regularly being killed by certain types of dog. The fact that it has now happened on my doorstep makes me want to talk about it even more! My kids go to school nearby or are getting off the train as the stop down the road. Hundreds of kids are. Plus people out walking with buggies or just walking their own dogs. It could have been any of these people or animals that were attacked and killed. That poor woman.

You can say what you want problem is your opinion is ignorant and you are spreading malicious gossip with NO evidence or experience. People like you are dangerous and belong in the 1600’s Salam

Babsexxx · 13/01/2023 04:26

Sounds exactly like the way it needs to go here!

OP posts:
Babsexxx · 13/01/2023 04:28

I’m not ignorant do you think this lady has been mauled to death by a sausage dog?!! OK!! Crazy! The fact is there are different breeds that are breed for certain purposes and of different builds with different capabilities FACT!

Babsexxx · 13/01/2023 04:31

Dog owners havd no respect I have a spaniel and as lovely as she is she is only allowed off in the dog park!!!! As she has a tendency to do this also! It’s soo frustrating that too many without the basic common sense have dogs!

I read two of the missing dogs are dachshunds and someone else is missing Leonberger.

So far it appears to be lots of dogs got loose as a result of something but it doesn't seem to be that they were all the same breed, or that they all belonged to the same person, or that they all attacked one person. Police have apparently detained 7 dogs, whether thats all of them, includes the dog/s that actually attacked someone, we don't yet know.

Do we even know the victim was 'mauled to death' there are a variety of ways in which a dog could kill someone including simply knocking them over.

Whatever has happened, I hope that a proper investigation occurs and that ultimately the HUMANS responsible, are held to account for their actions/inaction.

Emmamoo89 · 13/01/2023 04:38

That's awful. Rip

There are huge amount of dogs in this country and many many many are out of control. There are ‘no go’ areas where I live as you can’t walk through without get jumped on, chased, etc etc. Terrifying for vulnerable people.

Where I live you can come across gangs of thugs roaming the street, but I've not heard of gangs of dogs roaming the streets looking for people to beat up.

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:12

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:29

O my goodness!!!! That is absolutely awful it must of been a breeder?! To have soo many I hope all the dogs are found!!! That is shocking! I wouldn’t let my child walk anywhere until they had caught up with the owners and confirmed all the dogs whereabouts 😔

Nothing like a good bit of theatrics, is there

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:15

SmartHome · 12/01/2023 22:30

Nothing I have seen (extensive posts on FB earlier) has said anything about the police asking people not to speculate, including the Surrey/Tandridge police updates.

This makes me very angry. Caterham is beautiful with lovely countryside and err lots of bridal paths and you're increasingly chased on bike or horse by horrible, out of control dogs. And they are all the usual suspect breed, the ones that are actually capable.of.ripping people's throats out. It's time that breed was force to die out.

How do you know which breed of dog was responsible? Perhaps wait for the evidence to emerge before you go condemning a whole breed to 'forcibly die out' as you so delicately put it

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:21

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:30

Omg really?!!! Something needs to happen FAST that is terrifying!!!! What the bludy hell is your local council doing?! I adore dogs but this would absolutely petrify me!!!! 😔

Ms sexxx, perhaps we should lower the hysterical squawking until the police issue an updated statement telling us there is absolutely anything at all to worry about or there are any killer dogs still out there just biding their time until the morning school run?

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:23

Ostryga · 12/01/2023 22:34

There’s speculation and then there’s saying that it’s fucking ridiculous these dogs are being continually bred (and we all know what type of breed they are)

This is absolutely horrific. I don’t care how many people love dogs and blame the owners, there is only a certain few breeds in this country that kill people and babies and it needs to fucking stop.

I can’t imagine how the woman’s family feel this evening. It is unthinkable and such a tragedy.

Any breed of large dog has the capability to kill a human being if it's gone rogue

Babsexxx · 13/01/2023 05:26

It’s hardly theatrics though is it……

I don't know the details, just heard the sirens and saw the police presence this afternoon and obviously everyone is talking about how shocking it is, and the police have put out a couple of updates. It happened at a fairly rural location. Lots of trails and it's very popular with walkers, hikers, mountain bikes, dog walkers. There have been lots of posts about escaped and missing dogs on FB over the last few days but people seem to be saying it's not related. I don't know, juts such an unecessary death. I hope the people in charge of those dogs can be prosecuted, but I doubt it.

Personally I think we need to talk about this issue and shine sunlight on it,and I would want that if it was my child killed. It's only by admitting that certain breeds can kill humans and doing something about it (like South Africa and other countries) that the countryside (and town and cities) will be safe to walk around. It's just insane that people have pets that are capable of killing humans.

Dogs you mean? We don't know what kind of breeds these dogs were

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:28

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:45

For the record if anyone has a problem with my “speculation” then please reread my initial post as there is absolutely non!

These are FACTS people do NOT have control of there dogs! IF they did there would NEVER be a dog attack! SIMPLE!

People are getting dog breeds they cannot control and are completely out of there depth! Another FACT.

Oh calm down, please.

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:30

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:51

Absolutely!!! It’s disgusting! That anyone can go out get any breed they desire without any measures in place! And then there’s the poor neglected dogs! That anyone can use and breed something has got to give!

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:34

Passpass · 12/01/2023 22:54

It’s not just ‘dangerous’ dogs. All dogs are dangerous under the right circumstances. Many dog owners are creating an environment where people can’t enjoy going outdoors onto public land. I’m sick of it. A relative couldn’t go out walking around his village after surgery despite being told to as part of his recuperation as dogs would constantly jump up. Yes your ‘friendly’ fucking cockapoo could be responsible for killing a fully grown adult.

Cockerpoos are half poodle and half cocker spaniel with soft mouths. The ability of that breed to kill an adult human is almost none, but your point of correct on the whole

EvenleyWitch · 13/01/2023 05:35

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:58

It wasn’t just aimed at this particular article it was aimed at ALL of the recent dog attacks it’s all getting far too much I think it’s time for dog licenses to be a thing now to not only protect the public but to protect dogs from being breed neglected and alllll the other issues!

I think more dog specific parks need to be created and gated off no free runs in public anymore for any breed lead walks only in public places! If your dog escapes from your property a hefty fine! I can think of soo many ways to help this situation which seems all common sense to me?

It seems hysterical overkill to me.
