When in the actual fuck is this going to end?! Absolutely heartbreaking!! What is possessing people to either A. Get dogs they cannot contain?!! B. Get dog breeds totally beyond there control/capacity!

Bloody hell 7 dogs out on the rampage all at the same time is really very unusual! That poor lady. 😢

SmartHome · 12/01/2023 22:45

I don't know the details, just heard the sirens and saw the police presence this afternoon and obviously everyone is talking about how shocking it is, and the police have put out a couple of updates. It happened at a fairly rural location. Lots of trails and it's very popular with walkers, hikers, mountain bikes, dog walkers. There have been lots of posts about escaped and missing dogs on FB over the last few days but people seem to be saying it's not related. I don't know, juts such an unecessary death. I hope the people in charge of those dogs can be prosecuted, but I doubt it.

Personally I think we need to talk about this issue and shine sunlight on it,and I would want that if it was my child killed. It's only by admitting that certain breeds can kill humans and doing something about it (like South Africa and other countries) that the countryside (and town and cities) will be safe to walk around. It's just insane that people have pets that are capable of killing humans.

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:45

For the record if anyone has a problem with my “speculation” then please reread my initial post as there is absolutely non!

These are FACTS people do NOT have control of there dogs! IF they did there would NEVER be a dog attack! SIMPLE!

People are getting dog breeds they cannot control and are completely out of there depth! Another FACT.

7 plus dogs involved apparently which is why people are thinking a breeder. But there are also a couple of boarding kennels nearby plus the area is very popular with dog walkers and you often see people with 5 or 6 dogs on leads, professional dog walkers. There is also a traveller presence in the area at the moment, plus a permanent camp (or was, it might have gone recently as the land was up for sale).

There has been a large increase in animals being attacked in fields over the past few years, since lockdown I guess when everyone got dogs. I often cycle or walk at a nearby airfield popular with dog walkers and I've pretty much had to stop as I was sick of being chased by dogs. As usual, owners not dogs etc but there aren't many breeds capable of killing an adult woman. RIP.

Kenley? We must be neighbours. I've also stopped using the aerodrome for the same reasons. EVERY time I take my daughter out in the pram, dogs are bounding up to us, trying to get into the pram. No recall. I just won't do it anymore.

NoInvitesEver · 12/01/2023 22:48

I agree with you OP. No issue with speculation - I was just replying to another poster who claimed to have read numerous articles but hadn't seen the police asking people not to speculate. Just pointing out where it was.
These attacks are far too frequent.

SmartHome · 12/01/2023 22:50

Yep, I really don't feel safe there anymore and would definitely not take small children there. I try and go earlier when it's quite in the week if I go at all.

Totally agree with everything you said @Boomboom22. It's time for it to stop. People will and should talk about this and about how dangerous dogs ruin neighborhoods. It's the only way we will reach a critical mass so that as a society, we get rid of dog breeds that are capable of killing peiple. It's a handful and there will still be plenty of other breeds for people to have as pets (but keep them under control as well I am sick of being chased!)

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:51

Absolutely!!! It’s disgusting! That anyone can go out get any breed they desire without any measures in place! And then there’s the poor neglected dogs! That anyone can use and breed something has got to give!

OP posts:
Passpass · 12/01/2023 22:54

It’s not just ‘dangerous’ dogs. All dogs are dangerous under the right circumstances. Many dog owners are creating an environment where people can’t enjoy going outdoors onto public land. I’m sick of it. A relative couldn’t go out walking around his village after surgery despite being told to as part of his recuperation as dogs would constantly jump up. Yes your ‘friendly’ fucking cockapoo could be responsible for killing a fully grown adult.

Have I missed what breed they are ?

OdeToBarney · 12/01/2023 22:56

@SmartHome it's such a shame that one of the reasons we moved here was the open green spaces and now I may as well live in the centre of Croydon as I can't bloody use them anyway! During mat leave I've been up there during the week in the middle of the day and still had the same problem. I get really angry even just thinking about it!

Fruitfriend · 12/01/2023 22:58

"The public are asked not to speculate" is polite police press release speak for "Don't go vigilante on us".

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:58

It wasn’t just aimed at this particular article it was aimed at ALL of the recent dog attacks it’s all getting far too much I think it’s time for dog licenses to be a thing now to not only protect the public but to protect dogs from being breed neglected and alllll the other issues!

I think more dog specific parks need to be created and gated off no free runs in public anymore for any breed lead walks only in public places! If your dog escapes from your property a hefty fine! I can think of soo many ways to help this situation which seems all common sense to me?

OP posts:
PoloAllsort · 12/01/2023 22:58

Yanbu. All dogs should be on a lead and wear a muzzle in a public space. My dd was attacked and bitten by a 'friendly' breed in a public park. She needed hospital treatment.

Dog owners need to be made to keep these pets under control, the current situation is unacceptably dangerous. Poor woman RIP.

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:59

No it doesn’t state what breed they are.

OP posts:
Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 23:00

Exactly I’ve just posted that I think dog licenses need to be bought in dogs only ever allowed free run in a actual dog park! If your dog escapes a hefty fine to name just a few resolutions!!! Your poor daughter that is horrendous!!!

I know. It's a no go area during the weekends. An entire, lovely leisure area that supposed to.promote health living for everyone - walkers, dog owners, cyclists, horse riders, people teaching their kids to ride bikes - has become a no go area for most people at the weekends. I have lots of friends with dogs of their own that won't walk them there or the Viewpoint any more as their little.dogs have been attacked by aggressive bigger dogs. How many more incidemts before we regulate dog ownerhip?

userxx · 12/01/2023 23:01

Oh, just with you saying this I thought you knew the breeds of all the dogs.

kitsuneghost · 12/01/2023 23:03

Babsexxx · 12/01/2023 22:38

Or someone who owns plenty of dogs then?! I know dogs can act pack like with other dogs familiar to them! but it would be highly unusual for them to all get on like besties randomly in a field/park and all attack together!

The dogs must be known to eachother.

Or a dog walker. So many get dogs but are not able to look after them so use dog walkers. Dog walkers are happybto walk 7 dogs at a time as they get more money, nobody can control 7 dogs.

Passpass · 12/01/2023 23:03

Instead we have a small area for the children’s park fenced off (obviously not including the entitled dog owner who less their dog run around inside anyway) and dogs roam free.

A woman screamed at me that I was a fucking cunt because I dared stop her dog chasing my toddler DS. I’ve been bitten. My kids have been terrorised. Buggies pissed on. Food stolen. Chased. Jumped on. It has to stop.

You can't muzzle all dogs, that's cruel. Walk on lead in public place, yes fine.

But then a dog by law should always be under complete control of the owner.

I have a 5 year old mastiff. So he came long before this type of giant breed became popular to own.

He's a gentle giant, I've never ever had a problem with him. I do however always walk him on a lead and a halti. He doesn't pull but the halti means should he ever try and pull I have complete control.

To be honest I've really reduced our walks and stuff, mainly he's 5 and is starting to get achy joints and has a heart murmur, but also because other owners just can't control their dogs.

I'm fed up of telling small/medium dog owners that their cockerpoo/collie/Labrador can not play with a shoulder barging 45kg mastiff as their dog will get hurt. Not mine!

I'm also fed up of random dogs running up to him getting in his face, he's fine with other dogs, but I don't know these other dogs, I don't want them attacking him.

Covid puppies are now juvenile dogs with poor social skills, because none of them could be socialised properly sadly.

So true. I hate being near dogs that are Barky /jumpy and the owner goes “he’s friendly, he won’t hurt you!”
If they’re in a lead/dog doing their own thing and owner nearby that’s ok.
reason I can’t go for walks is so many dogs locally end up running loose and posted on FB page as missing. We’ll keep it under control then

Trixiefirecracker · 12/01/2023 23:12

Too many dogs. Too many useless owners who don’t know how to train their animals. Horrendous.
