I'm beginning to think it's all a game to most of them now.

I think they like the publicity they get from being so immoral and it must benefit them on other ways because they constantly seek to do it more.

DuncinToffee · 29/01/2023 11:57

I remember the early threads about party gate when pro Johnson posters were quick to attack the media and certain journalists. Wonder if they have changed their minds now

They haven't. There's a Nadhim Zahawi thread on here and 5 posts in there's someone going 'Labour are exactly the same' despite them not having been in power for 13 years.

DuncinToffee · 29/01/2023 12:16

Guess it is easier to keep sticking your head in the sand than face facts.

If there is a labour, lib dem, green politician evading tax, I want them to be exposed and sacked as well.

Abso-bloody-lutely.

MissWired · 29/01/2023 12:27

Dodgy as fuck with links to Iraqi / Nigerian oil companies. Tells you everything you need to know, and also explains why Sunak hesitated to get rid of him.

Soothsayer1 · 29/01/2023 12:37

How in god's name did he think he could brazen it out?
Surely he felt confident that those on whom he had dirt, or who owed him favours would have to protect him?

Roussette · 29/01/2023 12:39

Unfortunately the people of Stratford on Avon will carry on voting him in, betcha.

Blossomtoes · 29/01/2023 12:43

borntobequiet · 29/01/2023 11:03

I hope Stratford sees sense and gets rid of the awful man. Sadly Stratford is very much a pig with a blue rosette territory, though it’s grown a great deal recently and I can but hope the demographic has changed (used to live in the constituency).

The Tory majority there is smaller than the one they had in Shropshire North which is now LibDem. Apparently the council is top of the list LibDems are targeting in May.

Now Sunak needs to get rid of Raab.

NEW: Nadhim Zahawi tells Rishi Sunak that he will stay on as an MP "in the coming years" and raises concerns about some media conduct in recent weeks, which he feels went beyond legitimate scrutiny of his tax affairs.

twitter.com/PippaCrerar/status/1619642736268947456?t=N7tL9Zh8PmuP-eNSI7RoIA&s=19

He will be back, just like Braverman Angry

I am perfectly happy for the media or anyone else to publish full details of all the tax I pay (which as a proportion of my income is far greater than Zahawi or Sunak pay). But that's because I am not trying to evade tax.

Why does someone with more money than someone could reasonably need in a lifetime need to evade tax anyway? Somone with such morals is self-evidently not a suitable person to hold public office.

jgw1 · 29/01/2023 12:46

The argument from the Tories seems to be that sacking Zahawi so quickly (?) shows that Sunak is strong, as soon as he had all the information he gave Zahawi the boot.

The trouble with that argument surely is that if a serious allegation was made against for instance a teacher or nurse, they would be suspended on full pay pending further enquiries. Why doesn't that happen in the Tory party?

Notonthestairs · 29/01/2023 12:52

If people believe that this week is the first Sunak understood of Zahawi's wrongdoing then they are truly dim.

Dan Neidle was covering Zahawi's tax issues in JULY 2022 - that's the point when CCHQ should (and probably were) querying Zahawi's version of events.

They just thought they could bury it.

itsgettingweird · 29/01/2023 13:56

Absolutely.

But there are bloody idiots who repeat this crap over and over. I think they think the more they say it the more it'll make it true.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 29/01/2023 14:10

Chris Bryant on LBC earlier said that everyone in parliament has been aware of Zahawi 's dodgy financial deals for years.

DuncinToffee · 29/01/2023 18:25

the story so far:

Pincher
Tractorgate
Owen Paterson
Greensill Capital
Partygate
Mustique
the £800,000 loan
wallpapergate
Lebedev peerage
Warburton
secret hampers
the £150k treehouse
Zahawi tax
Williamson bullying
Imran Ahmad Khan
Raab bullying
Patel bullying
illegal prorogation

(jim pickard)

OP posts:
Fladdermus · 29/01/2023 18:37

'The story so far' from when?

Because that list doesn't include:

Patel being sacked for treason meeting with foreign powers in secret against the UK's interests.

Connor Burns

Hancock and all his shite

Braverman leaking like a sieve

And that's just off the top of my head.

L1ttledrummergirl · 29/01/2023 18:39

2x Sunak fpn
1x Johnson fpn

InMySpareTime · 29/01/2023 18:42

And we still have the privileges committee to hear from...

Chevyimpala67 · 29/01/2023 19:03

The (s)tory so far....

Notonthestairs · 29/01/2023 19:16

Trussonomics? The Russia report? The delay of sanctions against oligarchs? Spending £140 million to send nobody to Rwanda? Failure to find those illusive Brexit benefits? Punch ups (sorry, "squabbling") in the voting lobby? Mass resignations?

We haven't had a normal (for Westminster) Government for years.

jgw1 · 29/01/2023 19:34

It is the will of the people.

DuncinToffee · 29/01/2023 19:36

I agree that Pickard left a lot off that list.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 29/01/2023 20:06

In fairness it's quite easy to concentrate on the current omnishambles and forget quite how many we have had to weather.

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/01/2023 07:17

This morning they've announced 5000 new hospital beds in England for next winter. Apparently in 2022 we had 1257 hospitals in England, so assuming we have the same now that's just under 4 new beds per hospital.
With an extra 800 ambulances across those hospitals, so less than 1 each, I can see that's a huge difference and will make life so much better for those working in nhs England. Waiting times should be majorly helped. Hmm
