Johnson to Sky News, Monday: 'Richard Sharp knows absolutely nothing about my personal finances, I can tell you that for ding dang sure'

Today

twitter.com/Gabriel_Pogrund/status/1619396363569213443?t=N8HYhJ_JbErlBqCiwPXp4Q&s=19

Boris Johnson was told to stop seeking Richard Sharp's "advice about your personal financial matters" days before announcing him as BBC chairman

The Sunday Times today reveals bombshell letter given to him by Simon Case 1/8

I would like to take issue with something in what you post.

It is not the least a bombshell that Johnson was corrupt and would provide favours to anyone who paid him enough.

DuncinToffee · 28/01/2023 19:59

Very true jgw1

Maybe it is directed to our lost posters?

According to The Times Zahawi has been sacked.

WildRosie · 29/01/2023 09:07

Just heard that too, Notonthestairs. Only a matter of time that he'd be gone, voluntarily or otherwise.

Cheguevarahamster · 29/01/2023 09:12

Well that was inevitable wasn't it? Sunak was incredibly weak letting it go on so long.

Notonthestairs · 29/01/2023 09:17

It really shouldn't have taken 10 days to reach this point.

Chevyimpala67 · 29/01/2023 09:21

Ds1 and I thought he wouldn't last the week.

Just came to say sky news has just informed me of the same!

Chevyimpala67 · 29/01/2023 09:25

...down to the wire though.
Sunak seems to want others (in this case Laurie) to tell him what to do.
Worrying.

Roussette · 29/01/2023 09:27

Call me cynical but I think this has been done on a Sunday in the hope it won't get the traction on the media to damage the party, as much as it would on a week day.
It's barely been mentioned on Kuennsberg show.

Piggywaspushed · 29/01/2023 09:34

Very odd LK this morning.

I agree it's been done today in the hope that something else will hit the front pages tomorrow.

Piggywaspushed · 29/01/2023 10:21

Peter Bone is on my local telly just now. The man is beyond bonkers.

Unfortunately, the interviewer did not have enough info about the teachers' strike to tell him he was incorrect , ill informed or lying and he is now shouting at her about Brexit. I mean really shouting.

DuncinToffee · 29/01/2023 10:21

It's official

He is blaming the media and no word of apology or his behaviour

I was interested in what the serious breaches of Ministerial Code actually were. And here it is.

Pippa Crerar

Two clear breaches of ministerial code:

1/ Nadhim Zahawi failed to declare HMRC investigation after appointed chancellor by Boris Johnson in July 2022.
2/ He failed to declare penalty for tax avoidance to HMRC which only came to light in report mid-Jan.

How in god's name did he think he could brazen it out? I am glad it is now being called 'tax avoidance', we always knew it was that. Just thank goodness it was a 'serious' breach, because otherwise he would still be in post like Braverman is.

DuncinToffee · 29/01/2023 10:28

The nature of Sir Laurie Magnus’ findings on Zahawi suggest that without public interest journalism - despite legal interventions that might have suppressed it - some of these details might never have come to light.

Brave sources. Cracking media lawyers. Great editors.

NEW: Nadhim Zahawi tells Rishi Sunak that he will stay on as an MP "in the coming years" and raises concerns about some media conduct in recent weeks, which he feels went beyond legitimate scrutiny of his tax affairs.

He will be back, just like Braverman Angry

What he means is he would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids journalists.

borntobequiet · 29/01/2023 11:03

I hope Stratford sees sense and gets rid of the awful man. Sadly Stratford is very much a pig with a blue rosette territory, though it’s grown a great deal recently and I can but hope the demographic has changed (used to live in the constituency).

Oh yes. It's the people telling tales at fault - not the people who could be told tales about 🤦‍♀️

There's a huge issue with "snitches get stitches" in teens nowadays and is there any wonder when the government are advocating the same approach.

It annoys me that it's being called tax avoidance. Tax avoidance is legal and if he'd done that he wouldn't have had to pay anything, just weather the political storm. It was tax evasion.

Great point. That is exactly what I meant.

Notonthestairs · 29/01/2023 11:26

Seven breaches of the Ministerial Code and no apology from Zahawi, just slinging blame around.

Sharp clearly up to his neck in securing Johnson £800,000 loan (from where?) whilst considering a role whose shortlist is compiled by Johnson.

Meanwhile whilst they are busy covering their backsides and filling their bank accounts, public services grind to a halt.
