It certainly gives lie to the notion that the Government are trying to balance the books.
Money is no object when it comes to ensuring the purity of Brexit (and undercutting employee rights and environmental standards).

Sadly - spot on Angry

WTF is this amendment to Online Safety Bill?

Under a further change to the bill, video footage that shows people crossing the Channel in small boats in a “positive light” will be added to a list of illegal content that all tech platforms must proactively prevent from reaching users.
Donelan said posting positive videos of crossings could be aiding and abetting immigration offences. Natalie Elphicke, the Conservative MP for Dover, had originally tabled an amendment proposing the change.

www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/jan/17/donelan-confirms-stiffer-online-safety-measures-after-backbench-pressure

This is what MPs spend their time fussing over? Not the NHS, not transport, not education, not even the driving examiners - no, the real threat to the nation is positive representations of people crammed on to small boats.
They have lost their marbles.

Lost a LONG time ago
It's so fucking OFFENSIVE that this is what these utter morons are debating instead of our country imploding

Every time I think I've reached the peak of tory fuckwittery they go above and beyond. This is genuinely chilling. Full on censorship for political gain. Totalitarianism here we come ...

Ahh, that explains the weird appearance of “migrants crossing the Channel in small boats” option across the YouGov poll I did earlier. It seemed out of place with the other options (NHS, Education, crime etc).

Interesting.

I just can't wrap my head around what footage think shows people in small boats in a positive light and why this should be banned. RNLI footage? Women and children? Grateful migrants? A range of nationalities?

Once again we are relying on the Lords to make sense of Tory showboating (pun intended).

L1ttledrummergirl · 17/01/2023 22:05

At this rate they'll be putting through a bill to stop the public saying anything that shows them in a bad light.

We'll all find ourselves inside a special mnet prison in Rwanda.

I have to disagree.....
....because of the oblique implication that it might be possible to say something that'd show them in a good light, the bad light blares through no matter what

Blossomtoes · 17/01/2023 23:49

They show themselves in a bad light, they don’t need any help.

Fact Check "England's NHS is 10 times worse than in 2011 on four key measures."

This is pretty damning - and reveals that it is not simply due to covid.

Elodie09 · 18/01/2023 19:16

They need to get this deal for the NHS and other short changed workers sorted . With immediate effect.
Every single health care worker I have watched being interviewed on tv looks absolutely shattered, drained, exhausted and at breaking point.
I feel so ashamed of what has been done and would never be able to sleep if I was a Tory MP / Minister.

DuncinToffee · 18/01/2023 19:56

They just don't care

Keir Starmer talking about people dying while waiting for an ambulance seems an odd thing for Tory MPs to be joking about.

Cost of Brexit to our economy currently coming in at £33 billion.

Truly the gift that keeps giving.

Why would anyone trust a party that made such a cataclysmic mistake and can't admit it?

God knows. But even The Telegraph is now saying that however good an idea it was, the Tories have fucked it up.

You can't make a silk purse out of a cows ear.

But you can drag an economy down and blame everyone else.

The levelling up squirrel

no conversation about the £2bn round 2 of the levelling-up fund should ignore the cut in annual government funding to councils from £41bn to £26bn since 2010

Oh dear

DowningStreetParty · 19/01/2023 23:12

Duncin those two posts of yours say it all:
the savage cuts going right back to Cameron and Osborne to annual government funding to councils, falling from £41bn to £26bn since 2010 (while also making local councils fund public health and social care)
And secondly that NHS funding graph- it is inexcusable for successive Tory governments to starve the NHS at a time of a rapidly ageing UK population
.. plus the underfunding of schools
.. plus fucking up the economy ..
plus the housing crisis..
and UK is already falling behind on our environmental commitments during the quickly worsening climate crisis…

The Tories are basically running the country off a cliff. It’s an absolutely terrible record.

A moving car. I mean, is he genuinely dim?

itsgettingweird · 20/01/2023 07:40

Apparently he may well be. The police have said to be investigating.

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/01/2023 08:16

Fpn for partying as chancellor and now potentially (really should be if the police do their job, something they don't seem to have been doing over the last few years, looking at you met), another as PM for not wearing a seatbelt. Sunak doesn't seem to give a shit about the laws.

Maybe this is a prerequisite for conservative party leaders?
