The bit at the end of Titanic when Rose is back on the ship

You know the very very end bit where she dies an old lady in bed and as she drifts off she's back on the Titanic. When she walks into the ship again Trudy is still dressed as her maid and little Cora is still dressed in little more than rags. I feel bad that they all those people have to spend eternity on the Titanic as staff and third class passengers while Rose swans around in her evening gown snogging Leonardo dicaprio Confused

Sorry to sound morbid but what happened to the bodies of people trapped within the ship itself?

Don't mean to sound awful but they would have got eaten by sea life and bacteria etc. I don't think they have found any human remains down there but I may be wrong.

I remember a documentary about this. Apparently the pressure/atmosphere would've caused instant disintegration. Eek.

Jack looked about 16 ! Nothing attractive about him.

Jack did look very young and a lot younger than Rose. I thought they were an off pairing, not class connected either.

megletthesecond · 04/12/2022 18:41

I'd never thought about her having Jacks baby before....

I watch a channel on Tiktok that tells some of the true life Titanic stories and some of them are so heartbreaking.

A widow refused to get in a lifeboat because she would have to leave her 'adult' sons behind (they were 16 and 13). All 3 went in the water. Both boys got sucked under but she resurfaced and got pulled into a lifeboat and survived. Both her sons drowned.

One upper class lady refused to leave her st Bernard behind. He was too big for a lifeboat obviously. A rescue ship allegedly saw the dead body of a women clinging to a large dog later on, although this hasn't been confirmed as true. But she did drown rather than abandon her dog. Fair play to her, I don't think I could leave mine either.

And the amount of children that died. They should have been the first ones off, no matter what social class they were from. And as mentioned above, 13 year old boys were classed as adults and therefore were expected to wait until all the women and other children had escaped.

Same thing that happens to any carcass at the bottom of the sea, it's consumed by the creatures that live there. I saw a documentary that included a dead whale on the ocean floor. Each creature has it's time that it arrives at the body until there's nothing left. Bones disintegrate at that depth and pressure.

Most clothing will rot away, though some shoes can still be seen. It was thought that the shoes showed where the person had come to rest but that's been disputed now. Leather withstands the conditions, cotton doesn't.

Many of the passengers that wore life vests and that were not recovered would have been taken by the current and eventually sunk somewhere far from the wreck site

I was surprised to find out Rose was American.

Thanks for your explanation. So sad to think of those who never got to bury their loved ones.

The story of the older couple - Isidor and Ida Straus is real. And this and the mother putting her children to bed makes me weep no matter how many times I see it. (Which as it was once one of my ASD child's obsessions is alot ).

Yeah it didn't look right !

Jifmicroliquid · 04/12/2022 18:57

“Every night in my dreams, I see you, I feel you…”
I think that was the dream she has every night.

FWIW, the script was left unclear for the audience to decide what happened. The actual script said something along the lines of ‘’Rose is lying warm in her bed and dreams, or perhaps she isn’t dreaming…’

Also, everyone saying he could have got on the board with her. He tried, and it tipped up with the weight. So he got her back on it and he stayed next to it. You see that very clearly.

Beachsidesunset · 04/12/2022 19:03

Vasquez telling her children a bedtime story as the ship sinks always bothered me. I think most parents would fight to the bitter end trying to save their children. Also, as soon as the ship tilted and filled with freezing water they would have been awake and screaming anyway. Unless she does the unthinkable and smothers them once they're asleep?

WestwardHo1 · 04/12/2022 19:04

I always assumed she was falling asleep and those were her dreams. The people at the end in the stateroom (or whatever it's called) were all the people she encountered over the voyage who died. And it's a heavenly utopia where all classes are allowed to mingle in the afterlife - the posh folk and the steerage folk all together, as it should be. After all the horror of the steerage passengers not even being allowed through locked gates to try and save themselves.

PuppyMonkey · 04/12/2022 19:04

TBF though, those who think Rose was “just dreaming…” bit of a shit ending, no?

angharadsgoat · 04/12/2022 19:06

I thought that too.

Prescottdanni123 · 04/12/2022 19:09

@Beachsidesunset

I think it was just to show that some third class passengers would have realized death was inevitable. And that so many lower class children were left behind while upper class adults sailed off in half full life boats. A mother putting children to bed made it hard hitting, but not distressing like seeing drowning kids would be.

WestwardHo1 · 04/12/2022 19:10

Though I do wonder why she brought all those framed photos onto a research vessel 😁. They would have been tilting and sliding everywhere.

I know they were supposed to show that she did as Jack wanted - had a full, busy and happy life. There should have been a photo with her and her babies, if that's what the photos are alluding to.

Yeah funny how not one of them showed her doing a massive spit.

It bugs me how easy Jack gives up trying to get on that piece of wood.

My sentimental teenage heart (I watched it age 14 when it came out in the cinemas; the queues of people filing out sniffling into tissues as we waited to go in was quite something!) always thought that she tossed the necklace in for them to find as they were over the search area.. she could never have sold it as then her arse of a fiancé would have found her alive.

I remember one of my teachers sitting a few rows ahead and sobbing her heart out, I was a totally bemused 12 year old Grin
