The bit at the end of Titanic when Rose is back on the ship

You know the very very end bit where she dies an old lady in bed and as she drifts off she's back on the Titanic. When she walks into the ship again Trudy is still dressed as her maid and little Cora is still dressed in little more than rags. I feel bad that they all those people have to spend eternity on the Titanic as staff and third class passengers while Rose swans around in her evening gown snogging Leonardo dicaprio Confused

@AfricanAmericanFriday
have you seen the French and Saunders sketch of that scene ?
it’s hilarious, Google it

I used to think this but it was worthless in Rose's possession as it was insured for millions. She wouldn't have been able to sell it.

Absolutely spot on. She couldn't sell it because Cal claimed its value through his insurance and had she not gone back to the ocean and it ended up in her children or grandchildren possession it would be seized if they tried selling it (legitimately of course and not sold it at some dusty back street pawn shop). Yes yes. I need to get a life.

I remember seeing the Harry Enfield skit of the hand slapping the back window in the car. They whip open the door and it's Jack (well Harry) by himself. 😂

And she goes back to Leonardo do C bloke. Who she knew for about 5 minutes. What about her husband???

He wasn't her husband she escaped him and started a new life in new york. Op I don't think she died i think she was asleep

No Billy Zane character was her fiancé. She goes onto marry someone else. Tells her granddaughter that she’d never told her grandfather about jack.

She does die. I read an interview James Cameron gave where he said Jack tells her she would die an old lady warm in her bed. He thought that bit would be clear what with him greeting her in their version of heaven but to some it wasn't.

Mrsjayy · 04/12/2022 17:18

I always assumed she was just dreaming.

PepsiMaxAholic · 04/12/2022 17:23

@Amybelle88 Me too! That necklace could have set her children and grandchildren up for the rest of their lives.

PuppyMonkey · 04/12/2022 17:25

It’s fascinating how many interpretations of this film ending there are on here.Grin

I always took it that she does die an old lady in her sleep and her dying thoughts are of going back to the Titanic and it all being lovely and all the poor souls who died are there happy to see her and giving her a round of applause.

I do feel sorry for the husband, kids, grandkids and whoever else later came into her long life that in her dying moments she didn’t give a stuff about them.Grin

Saw a FB post about that old couple who cuddled up together waiting for the sea to take them, apparently that’s based on a RL couple so that also makes me very tearful. Along with the mum singing her little ones a Gaelic lullaby and putting them to bed for the last time, wail.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/12/2022 15:25

Totally.

You think in heaven of all places they’d bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

Nah. You must have heard All Things Bright and Beautiful as a kid? 'The Rich Man in his castle/The poor man at his gate/He made them high or lowly and ordered their estate'? Inequality predestined and unchangeable...

Pythonese · 04/12/2022 17:26

There was room on that piece of wood for both of them.

It's got to be a dream. Why would the people who died on the Titanic be standing round applauding a kiss?

'Yay! We've waited 84 years for this, we can all rest in peace now the gang's back together'.

That made me laugh so much 😂

PepsiMaxAholic · 04/12/2022 17:32

I always thought Rose died at the end with her being dressed in white, sort of symbolising an angel

xYerDaSellsAvonx · 04/12/2022 17:34

She definitely kicked the bucket.

hpphhp · 04/12/2022 17:37

I was shocked at how many people would have died from physical trauma rather than drowning/freezing to death. It makes sense once I'd seen it and saw people sliding down the decks hitting structures or
jumping and hitting rudders etc.

AllThatGlistensIs · 04/12/2022 17:38

My sentimental teenage heart (I watched it age 14 when it came out in the cinemas; the queues of people filing out sniffling into tissues as we waited to go in was quite something!) always thought that she tossed the necklace in for them to find as they were over the search area.. she could never have sold it as then her arse of a fiancé would have found her alive.

xYerDaSellsAvonx · 04/12/2022 17:42

I always thought Billy Zane was way hotter than Leo.

Jack looked about 16 ! Nothing attractive about him.

@AfricanAmericanFriday Mythbusters proved that there was no space on the board for both of them - it would have sunk and they both would have drowned 😳😬😄.

Could've taken turns?

Although she says he shot himself in 1929 so she'd have been OK after that!

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 04/12/2022 18:17

@xYerDaSellsAvonx

that should have been played at the end credits 😁

Mamamia7962 · 04/12/2022 18:23

I have been to the actual Titanic exhibition, not one person was injured from the ship hitting the iceberg. If there had been enough lifeboats for everyone, not one person would have perished. There were some very tragic stories. One family which consisted of mum, dad, and 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls all tried to get into a lifeboat. There was only enough room for the mother and 2 children so the mother refused to get in saying she wanted them all to stay together. One of the ship's crew grabbed the 2 daughters and threw them over the side into the lifeboat and so she had to go in with them. Her husband told her that he and the two boys would try another lifeboat. She and the two daughters survived but she said the last she saw of her husband and 2 sons was them running to try and get in a lifeboat on the other side of the ship.

ShrimpIsTheFruitOfTheOcean · 04/12/2022 18:33

Sorry to sound morbid but what happened to the bodies of people trapped within the ship itself?
