The bit at the end of Titanic when Rose is back on the ship

You know the very very end bit where she dies an old lady in bed and as she drifts off she's back on the Titanic. When she walks into the ship again Trudy is still dressed as her maid and little Cora is still dressed in little more than rags. I feel bad that they all those people have to spend eternity on the Titanic as staff and third class passengers while Rose swans around in her evening gown snogging Leonardo dicaprio Confused

Seems very idiotic to chuck the diamond in the sea. Why? She could sell it and give money away instead

The heart of the ocean...it belonged there with the man who holds her heart

GoingtotheWinchester · 03/12/2022 23:24

@AfricanAmericanFriday Mythbusters proved that there was no space on the board for both of them - it would have sunk and they both would have drowned 😳😬😄.

It’s the old couple that gets me. And the mam with her children. More so than Jack and Rose.

Yes, have to admit to feeling emotional when she starts telling them the bedtime story.

GoingtotheWinchester · 03/12/2022 23:27

Oh no! I’ve just googled it and remembered it completely wrong 😂

No matter how many times I watch that film it still makes me blub 😊

I'm fine all the way through except for the end when she's frantically blowing on the whistle while the lifeboat is coming back to get her out of the water 😭😭😭

And she goes back to Leonardo do C bloke. Who she knew for about 5 minutes. What about her husband???

Her husband was an abusive bully.

@FrazzledFirefly that buys one of the highlights for me...ioan gruffudd in a sailors suit. 'Is there anyone alive out there? Can anyone hear me?'

Was scrolling through TV earlier and found it. Watched the last hour. I forgot how gripping it is. Rose dies at the end.

iliketartan · 03/12/2022 23:33

It's a shit film and eleventy billion hours too long.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 03/12/2022 23:33

She wasn't married to Billy Zane's character.v

GoingtotheWinchester · 03/12/2022 23:34

@Bbq1 that was her fiancé not her husband!

MammaWeasel · 03/12/2022 22:59

I thought that Rose's granddaughter's mother was Jack's daughter? From their tryst in the car with the steamed up windows?

Shades of ''The Go Between''...Very likely!

Puppers · 03/12/2022 23:36

Bbq1 · 03/12/2022 23:31

Her husband was an abusive bully.

Nooo not Billy Zane. She was just engaged to him and then gave him the slip on the rescue ship. Her husband came after the Titanic. She talks about her granddaughter I think.

Kanaloa · 03/12/2022 23:37

What a random thing to pick up on 😂 this is the type of nonsense I say to DH at 1am when I can’t sleep and he wants to smash his head open so he doesn’t have to hear it.

I did once read (not sure if it’s true though) that you can’t invent a face completely. So even in your dreams faces of people are faces you know from somewhere or other. Maybe it’s that, she sees them as she’s always seen them because she can’t imagine them into someone else.

If it helps you, perhaps you could imagine this is only Rose’s vision of heaven. So like in Trudy’s heaven maybe she is the lady and Rose is the maid! Or in Cora’s maybe she is dressed in beautiful clothes.

Honestly infuriating!!!

That fella shipped her out to his boat, let her tell her story, she knew he had spent mega bucks on searching for it and she just lashes it.

Made me rage 😂

Sleeptightnightlight · 03/12/2022 23:03

I don't think it's trying to say that a sunk boat is literally the afterlife. Just that her dying thoughts/dreams were of being happy back on the Titanic.

And I've always thought it is easier to have a grand love for someone who died before you see their flaws, rather than someone you actually spend a life with.

Never thought about this either. I wonder if waiting alone in poverty in a freezing little flat while Jack’s out drawing one legged prostitutes would be quite so charming… really he seemed more like a convenient escape from the world’s worst semi arranged marriage to what’s his face.

3luckystars · 03/12/2022 23:42

I think it’s awful she threw it into the sea too. I also find it hard to believe she never had the need to sell it, after starting out in America with nothing and being used to the high life.

BMW6 · 03/12/2022 23:45

She speaks about her husband to her Grandaughter . She says she loved her husband but a woman's heart can hold many secrets (or something like that).

She infers that Jack wasn't her only love.

Maybe she pawned it and later redeemed it. Or used it as collateral for a loan which she paid back.

Blueblell · 03/12/2022 23:49

She dies years later in a warm bed

Exactly. She doesn’t marry the fiancée.

I don't think she could have pawned anything as unique and valuable as that* - I think Titanic survivors got a payout to tide them over; and I'm guessing Rose took a job ASAP.

  • I mean, in theory - the prop looked cheap and tacky IMO!

How many years later? Old Rose was 101!
