Starting a ‘wee only’ rule in the en-suite rule?

Notsympatheticenough · 29/11/2022 06:47

new house. En-suite isn’t as soundproof as old en-suite. Dh’s ablutions in the morning are…loud. Is it unreasonable I ask him to use the family bathroom?

he says the loo is more comfortable in The en suite. He has no embarrassment factor.

maybe I could offer to stop doing something that annoys him?

That is our rule. There are two other toilets that can be used for number 2s so the ensuite is for pee only

Fufumcgoo · 29/11/2022 06:49

Urgh, I would never have allowed that into he first place! In any ensuite! (hotels excepted as would rather than than public loo)

Who wants to shot in their bedroom? Ensuite are disgusting

Northernsoullover · 29/11/2022 06:51

I do use my ensuite fully. But never when in company. If my OH stays over its the other bathroom (on another floor) for twos.

Cupcakegirl13 · 29/11/2022 06:54

I lie in bed every morning listening to DH emptying his bowels and I can’t stand it. Interested to hear others thoughts on this as wasn’t sure if I was being unreasonable !

Twopeasinthesamepod · 29/11/2022 06:56

It’s always been an unwritten rule for us, en-suite is for peeing only. Bathroom is for the other and guests are only ever allowed to use downstairs wc, unless they’re family staying over and they use the main bathroom.

This again. We all know how weird MN is about en-suite bathrooms. If I'm in bed and need to poo I use my en-suite bathroom if I'm downstairs unused the downstairs loo which is off the laundry room. I don't consider that piping there will contaminate my laundry.

balalake · 29/11/2022 06:59

DH should be quieter and make sure you have plenty of air freshener.

It's really not weird to not want somebody shitting in your bedroom. I wouldn't have an ensuite full stop but if I had too. Peeing only.

I cannot think of anything less pleasant. the sounds, the smells 🤮

Doingmybest12 · 29/11/2022 07:03

I can not imagine controlling something like this. I can imagine getting up and out of the way if I found my husbands habits so offensive. I tend to choose a loo where I can't be heard so would go upstairs /downstairs depending on where everyone else is but consider this my hang up rather than expecting all to do the same.

Doingmybest12 · 29/11/2022 07:05

As a guest I prefer not to use a downstairs loo if in the hallway under the stairs or off the kitchen and would prefer to use family bathroom for privacy.

user1474315215 · 29/11/2022 07:05

MN at its best! Toilets are for doing your business in. End of.

Towcat15 · 29/11/2022 07:09

‘You don’t do a poo in the en suite loo’

I’m going to put that on one of those wooden signs, no live laugh love in our house.

Unfortunately our family bathroom is downstairs. The only upstairs loo is our en suite and you would definitely not be welcome to go and poo in there.

We don't do number 2s in the en suite. The door is right beside our bed, and there's no window in the en suite. Nobody needs to smell or hear that while they're trying to sleep. I wish we had a second family bathroom upstairs rather than an en suite, I've never wanted one.

Notplayingball · 29/11/2022 07:22

So glad I don't have an ensuite. I like a toilet very separate from the bedroom!!

Bananalanacake · 29/11/2022 07:22

We are thinking of buying a house with an ensuite in the bedroom but it also has a walk in wardrobe so that makes up for it.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 29/11/2022 07:25

There’s not much you can do about the sounds, unless you put some music on, but you can eradicate the smell instantly by lighting a match. It burns the methane.
So much better than trying to mask with air fresheners!

Sparklefoof · 29/11/2022 07:26

That's the rule here too. Our bedroom would absolutely stink if DH had a shit in the ensuite

HavfrueDenizKisi · 29/11/2022 07:27

Yes very few en-suites are well made enough to cover sounds and smells and for that reason I'm not fond of them. So I fully understand you OP. I personally would hate to listen to my DH take a dump while I'm snoozing.

My personal dislike at en-suites with no windows (majority of them). Musty damp dark rooms. No thanks!

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 29/11/2022 07:28

I have 3 floors, a toilet on each of them. All toilets have windows, if me or my husband or child need a poo we go to the nearest toilet.
I often wonder on MN if they sound proof their bathrooms/en-suites/downstairs loo as it's always harps on they can hear people on the en suite.
It's a normal bodily function

gogohmm · 29/11/2022 07:30

@Cantbebotheredwithchores

Same here.

People are weird on Mumsnet!

tealandteal · 29/11/2022 07:30

If someone else is in bed or about to go to bed we have that rule, not during the day though.

user564576 · 29/11/2022 07:30

DH is banned from the en suite entirely as it's my bathroom, but even if it wasn't he'd never do it in the en-suite whilst I'm in the room. He has more manners than that and wouldn't need it to be a rule!

WorldLeaderPretend · 29/11/2022 07:31

My DH goes off to the main bathroom for his morning poo each morning and returns to the ensuite to shower....without being asked. Preens

The aroma of innards mixed with fake flowers - just no.

AutumnCrow · 29/11/2022 07:38

Does that match thing really work? Is that what the smell is, just methane? Is that what men are made of, I thought it was carbon and oxygen? So many questions
