A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

I've tidied the shoe rack and got rid of any that my kids have outgrown or that have worn out

Goldieshock · 19/11/2022 15:09

Ordered new matching cutlery and cleared the kitchen drawer out

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 17:01

Good work both.
Kitchen drawers are on my list, but I should probably prioritise all the more visible mess

Love these threads. Today I’ve taken three bags to the charity shop that have been sat there for about two months.

CarnivalSong · 20/11/2022 11:15

I’ve suropicously got rid of another bin liner of children’s toys.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/11/2022 11:21

Oh - can I join this one? This is exactly what I need.

Today I am going through and bagging up clothes to be returned, and putting unwanted clothes in a bag to be picked up by charity collection.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/11/2022 11:22

Thanks @ShinyHatStand

Lentilweaver · 20/11/2022 11:30

Really need to do this. But will start tomorrow. I need to throw out some old mags and paper.

IndeedDanielJackson · 20/11/2022 11:39

I need to do this too. Had a bit of a clear out of old clothes recently but only got as far as putting the bags in my car...can't do anymore as the boot is full!

ShinyHatStand · 20/11/2022 16:05

I've just trimmed the hedge and mown our small lawn. Both job left way too late in the year, so not ideal. But figured they were too overgrown to leave til this spring. And I was massively embarrassed every time I saw our lovely, house proud neighbours.

And I brought in a load of tins that we'd stashed in the garage that were liable to go out of date if left much longer.

And now I need a nap.

Oooh I love these threads!

Today I have done my work bag......gone from working in retail to working in a prison. Can't take much in.

I thrown the lot out, bag included. Kept a few pens and a diary

Suzie0003 · 20/11/2022 16:20

Cleared out my pantry and donated 2 large carrier bags of tinned food to the food bank 😊

Livingonjuice · 20/11/2022 16:40

Cleared out one of my bedroom baskets of mixed medicines/ body spray/ insoles/ random hair bobbles/ hair brushes etc. still got 2 but it's one emptied. Small steps right?

Mercedes519 · 20/11/2022 16:41

Today I have swept up the leaves outside. Am also inadvertently cleared out the cupboard under the sink as the pipe is leaking so I had to remove everything. Want high on the list though!

changer121 · 20/11/2022 16:43

Dh and I have outdone ourselves today!
We have had a skip delivered this week and spent all morning clearing our garage and sheds of rubbish and random stuff that should have gone years ago.
We put good stuff out in front of the skip and a sign for people to help themselves and that's mostly gone too .
I was on a roll and cleared out the Tupperware drawer too and chucked the mismatched stuff in the recycling.
Shattered now but feeling good 👍🏻

ShadowNight · 20/11/2022 16:50

I've washed and cleaned all of the indoor windows today.

Last week I cleaned my oven.

Still got a load of jobs and sorting that needs doing.

FreestyleVibe · 20/11/2022 16:55

I would love to join, I'm determined to get one thing done a day as it will help declutter my mind and lighten my mental load.

Today I ordered my brother's Christmas present.

I'm so jealous, I'd feel so satisfied after a day like this!

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 20/11/2022 16:57

I really need to do this. Yesterday I packed up DD's outgrown bras and posted off to Smalls For All. They've only been sitting and waiting since May! I felt ridiculously good about that.

Today I will sort through the tat sitting in sponge bags and throw out the tatty tat.

BalloonSlayer · 20/11/2022 17:14

I have been in the loft and found some things that I have been looking for for YEARS. I have also now got a kind of plan for doing something with the rest of the stuff up there.

ShinyHatStand · 20/11/2022 17:24

I'm exhausted just reading all this 🥱😁

Tricky bit will be keeping the momentum during the week. So much harder after a busy day.
But I'm determined to keep things going with at least a small job each day.

I love this thread. My problem is I live elsewhere a large portion of my time but I'm going to try and work round that. I'm off to do a job and will report back.

Goldieshock · 20/11/2022 17:27

Defrosted the freezer today. Feel so chuffed!

Choice4567 · 20/11/2022 17:36

Oo excellent thread! High on my list are cleaning out the fridge and cleaning all the windowsills. Mean meaning to do them both all week but other jobs getting getting bumped over them.

I think fridge will be number one on my list for the morning. We had 10 people for roast dinner today so it’s gonna take me the evening to clear all that up!

ShinyHatStand · 20/11/2022 17:37

@Choice4567 I might join you in a fridge clean tomorrow...
