A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

ShinyHatStand · 19/11/2022 15:00

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

I cleared the coffee table and the kitchen island today - both look so much better.

ShinyHatStand · 23/11/2022 22:24

Just found one of those charity bags for collection on Friday.
Think that decides what my job tomorrow will be.

I cooked a lasagne yesterday and portioned some for the freezer and went to a yoga class.
Not as productive as I'd have liked but never mind 😊

CarnivalSong · 24/11/2022 09:19

We cleaned the microwave inside and out before work.

clutterbugger · 24/11/2022 09:44

Ooh can I join? 😁

Took 4 black bags of clothes to charity yesterday, could have listed on vinted but tbh the space it takes up and time I know it'd be here for the long haul! Under the (ottoman) bed is now ready to hide presents so big win.

PauliString · 24/11/2022 09:48

I’ve cleared a drawer, and found £10 in book token, an outdated £20 note and about £5 in loose change. That’s not a bad hourly rate.

Lentilweaver · 24/11/2022 16:51

This thread is really giving me motivation. Today I
returned library books
wrote and posted a letter

I need to venture into cleaning drawers soon.

FreestyleVibe · 24/11/2022 20:00

I returned 3 parcels (trip to post office and trip to DPD pick up point), cleaned out spices cupboard and organised in alphabetical order.

clary · 24/11/2022 20:47

Excellent work everyone.

Today (continuing my mission to Sort the Study) I have tidied a corner with lots of crud that is on ebay or heading for the charity shop. Put some firmly in the charity shop bag, tidied the ebay items and picked out a few more items to sell as well.

ShinyHatStand · 24/11/2022 21:07

Good work all.
Another unambitious day from me. Moved a bunch of stuff that had been dumped on the kitchen floor into the conservatory so it feels much less cluttered. And tidied away the family shoe mountain in the hall.
Not much but I wouldn't have done either without the accountability of this thread so I'll count that as a win.

We've been struck down with a nasty cold the last few days so all feeling rather jaded.
I've cleaned the bathrooms and sorted the washing but that's it for us the last day or two.

cookiesbeforepookies · 24/11/2022 21:34

Washed the delicates by hand (they were in the ‘to wash’ pile for 2 months Blush

ShinyHatStand · 24/11/2022 21:35

Hope you all start to feel better sooner @changer121

I missed yesterday but my excuse was I was working until 9.30. Today I have cleared some bits and pieces off my bedside table and completely emptied and removed a box that gathers crap on my dressing table. If it's not there any more the crap can't gather, right?

StewardsEnquiry · 25/11/2022 09:24

In the spirit of the thread title, I'm looking for little jobs. Things that take 15 minutes or less.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 25/11/2022 09:29

place marking! We are trying to do this at the moment.

MavisCruet2023 · 25/11/2022 09:37

Yes, I did this last year.
I designated November 2021 as the 'month of terrible jobs'.
Every day that month, I finished / sorted something that was not necessarily a terrible job but was something I had been putting off doing.
It worked out great and I got a lot of jobs - bigger, smaller, insignificant and significant - done.

ShinyHatStand · 25/11/2022 11:28

My recently trimmed hedge and clear coffee table are still making me smile on a daily basis.
Ridiculous how much annoyance can be caused by ignoring small jobs for months on end

Goldieshock · 25/11/2022 18:41

Cleaned and descaled the shower heads

Did the random items lurking at the very bottom of the washing basket (mostly hand wash things)

Replaced guest pillows and set up bed for Christmas visitors

Took a pair of wellies to the charity shop that got missed in the last batch sent off

ShinyHatStand · 25/11/2022 18:47

Haven't done my job. Yet.
Must ... leave ... sofa ...

OP posts:
Lentilweaver · 25/11/2022 18:53

Haven't done my little job either today. Been doing big jobs like working and cleaning and laundry!

StewardsEnquiry · 25/11/2022 20:15

I'm going to plan my little job for tomorrow: I'm going to take to rubbish out of my car boot, and vac the inside of my car.

Suzie0003 · 25/11/2022 20:18

Been to my yoga class
Washed and (almost) dried one load of laundry
That is all today

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 25/11/2022 21:01

Oh can I join in please? This is exactly what I need, I'm 6 weeks postpartum, struggling with anxiety and am quite lonely, especially after DP returned to work after 4 weeks off. I need to distract myself!

Today I cleared quite a bit of shite out of the bedroom: old magazines, general crap, empty water bottles etc. DP's home on Sunday, so we'll be tackling the laundry mountain together, which has reached Everest proportions 😅

clary · 25/11/2022 21:09

Continuing my Study plan, I tidied away several bags of stuff dd and I have bought at a couple of Christmas fairs (gifts to us and others) and put some files in the newly empty wardrobe. Pretty much done in that room now (aaaah)
