A new 'one (small) job a day' thread

Can't find an active one of these, which I found massively motivating in the past.
The idea is to try and tackle one job around the house every day and report back. Even a really small job counts, especially if it's been irritating you for a while.

I've just sorted out the drawers in the hall that we use for shoes, bags etc. Took about 15 mins. More crap to throw away than I'd expected and I found all the gloves that had gone awol.

My jobs keep getting thwarted!!

I wanted to order some new light bulbs. In this new fandangled world, nothing is easy anymore!!

I need some candle style screw in bulbs for bedside lights & some 'ordinary' (but the no longer exists!!) bulbs for 'the big light'. Would have just bought 100w bayonet bulbs.

niw thoroughly confused! I hate hate hate LED lights, current bulbs are halogen but Tesco don't do these ones anymore and I don't know what to buy!!

im not down to my last one so I packed up the 'bulb box' with a harumph & gave up!

barious other jobs like that, but I'll spare you the details!

have plugged in the multi USB plugs that arrived earlier, now a bit concerned at the possible fire risk?!?!

also plugged the under counter fridge into my new 'energy meter' to see how much it's using. I hope it works the way I think it will. 'Instructions' are 'minimal'

Room of Doom didn't get a look in the weekend & thus Christmas Decs didn't get brought down out of the loft, need to do that before next weekend. <sigh>

Defrosted the freezer today. Feel so chuffed!

@Goldieshock I only have a split fridge/freezer. Frost Free - he's small but I love him!!

I don't get the 'chuffed' feeling, but I don't have to defrost him & work out what is in the random bags of food. A good enough trade off for me!!

Mercedesbenz2022 · 20/11/2022 17:56

I’ve matched my socks !

user73 · 20/11/2022 18:04

I made half a Roman blind. I’ll have it done tomorrow hopefully.

I also repotted three orchids and helped DS2 tidy his room and put window film on his window which a neighbour can see straight into.

WeWereInParis · 20/11/2022 18:06

We're getting a new wardrobe to replace a knackered one and a chest of drawers so I've gone through my clothes and got rid of any I don't need any more. This week's job is to take a bag of them to the charity shop.

Choice4567 · 20/11/2022 18:11

@ShinyHatStand Oo exciting a joint fridge cleaning!

fizzyfood · 20/11/2022 18:16

Yesterday I took some games to the charity shop and today I've sorted some clothes out that'll be taking to the charity shop tomorrow. Love these threads, helps keep me motivated.

Goldieshock · 20/11/2022 18:27

@SkylightSkylight

Sounds a good trade off.

One drawer contained one very old boxed pizza and a mountain of ice. That's it. Been like it for far too long!

hookiewookie29 · 20/11/2022 18:36

I've repotted a very sad looking orchid that has been staring at me all week ( it was in the spare room and I'd forgotten all about it,poor thing!).I brought it downstairs to the kitchen to sort it out and haven't had chance all week and have actually got round to it! It's smiling at me now....

carkerpatridge · 20/11/2022 18:54

I decided to tackle DD's bedroom - she is away at uni and her room has become the dumping ground for anything and everything! Her room is now looking much more like it should. In the process I found some stuff that I have been searching for and I managed to fill 2 bags that can go to charity tomorrow.

clary · 20/11/2022 19:03

ooooh excellent thread. I love a fridge clean @ShinyHatStand @Choice4567 !

I have decided to tackle the big wardrobe in the study - it's some kind of heirloom from my MiL's house Hmm so we have to keep it; I hate it and also it is full of crap. So if it is tidy I will only hate it lol. Today then I cleared out one side - shelves and then a massive stack of mostly empty shoeboxes - they have gone in the recycling - and a couple of games that are crap (have left the decent ones) which I can charity shop. Tomorrow - the Middle Section which is a morass of random trainers and other shoes (the wardrobe is intended to be for shoes and coats but has become a dumping ground).

ShinyHatStand · 20/11/2022 20:23

Another job on my list is to buy teen DS1 a new bed and wardrobe.
Any recommendations? I can't find anything at a sensible price with consistent reviews.

Can I join?? Cleaned the inside of the car today. If smells fresh now

PauliString · 20/11/2022 20:36

I’ve emptied the bins and walked the dog.

That’s it, but I’ve been flattened by Covid for the past two weeks so it’s better than yesterday.

Supersimkin2 · 20/11/2022 20:46

I made a skirt for the Virgin Mary (bright blue felt) and gave Jesus a little blanket to match.

Ugandan corn nativity set given a makeover for the cold winter here 😀

Choice4567 · 20/11/2022 20:52

I’ve made the mistake of making a list of all the jobs that need doing this week. Now it looks so much!

But I really am clinging to the fridge being the top one! I shall feel so pleased if I get it done I may not care about the rest of the list

MotherofPiggies · 20/11/2022 20:56

Wiped the black mould from the living room window frames…. It’ll be back again tomorrow!

SunshineBoy · 20/11/2022 20:58

Ooh I will join in! Today I will put away the laundry and change the bedding.

it’s getting late but I’m determined and I stripped the bed so I need to sort it before I can climb in.

Shunkleisshiny · 20/11/2022 21:05

I took a ton of 'coffee table' car books to our hospice shop, my husband hasn't looked at them for at least 15 years, and probably forgotten a!l about them!

ShinyHatStand · 20/11/2022 21:15

Well done all.
I've just spent an hour browsing websites failing to buy a wardrobe ☹️

ginislife · 20/11/2022 21:16

The kids decided to move their bedrooms about and a load of my clothes were in the wardrobe of one of them. They dumped them in my bedroom so I've been forced to sift them into a rubbish bag and a charity bag. Found shoes I'd forgotten I owned and 2 pairs of decent black trousers. Happy days !!

Depending on his age Noa and Nani or Crazy price beds. i can highly recommend both :)

EricNorthmanYesPlease · 20/11/2022 21:23

Ive cleaned the kitchen bins, wrapped all my DDs Christmas presents, and taken some returns back to Aldi and Lidl!

Tomorrow i have to tackle a room of doom. Which is a cupboard but it fills me with dread.....

ShinyHatStand · 20/11/2022 21:41

Thanks @EricNorthmanYesPlease

Ooo, I love these threads!

@ShinyHatStand how about an industrial style exposed clothes rail straight onto the wall/alcove? Might be cooler for a Teen DS then a wardrobe?

yesterday we took two enormous storage bags of childrens clothes to the childrens hospice shop- that is a culmination of a project of sorting and sifting all 0-3-3year clothes from my older dd to keep/charity now we have baby DS. Also got rid of his first few sizes. Bags were so big we phoned ahead to make sure they had space.

took everyone to softplay and grandparents today so not much chance to do a job!

tomorrow I need to sort some quotes for a car repair. Literally bricking it - hate car stuff. It also desperately needs a clean 🫣
