Exclusive: Govt is planning to extend taxpayer-funded support to help defend Boris Johnson over claims he misled parliament about Partygate.

twitter.com/breeallegretti/status/1602754491249475593?s=46&t=dVlccucx9BExIu8jK8Rhhg

No idea why taxpayers have to pay to defend Johnson. Surely some of the ££££ from his speaking engagements should be used to pay for his own legal advice. He might be less cavalier if he was stumping up for the bill.

The poor guy was just trying to do his best in very difficult circumstances. He needs is parties otherwise he couldn't function.

DuncinToffee · 13/12/2022 21:21

He only got paid £276k for one speech....

So this is what happened to “There’s not a bottomless pit of taxpayers money”
Johnson needs it.

Former PM Boris Johnson and former Home Sec Priti Patel are backing Tory MP Jonathan Gullis’s 10 minute rule bill proposing Gov ignores ECHR and begins Rwanda flights ASAP. Introduced tomorrow, it states UK v ECHR on prisoner votes is proof it is possible.

It also has backing of JRM, Nadine Dorries, Tim Loughton and others and says Gov should move forward with Nationality and Borders bill provisions no matter what any international court or body says. Shows clearly the determination of senior Tories to grip this issue…

Fiddling whilst Rome burns and the ambulances queue up.

They seem desperate to rack up the legal bills don't they?

BewareTheLibrarians · 13/12/2022 22:49

Re Rwanda, are Priti et al offering them a lift? As all the carriers previously contracted to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda have pulled out, iirc…

“The airline has become known as the UK government’s ‘airline of last resort’ for their willingness to conduct deportation flights that other airlines refuse.

Two other charter airlines which previously conducted deportation flights for the UK government, Titan Airways and Airtanker, have already ruled themselves out of the scheme after being contacted by Freedom from Torture.”

Notonthestairs · 13/12/2022 23:31

They don't expect the flights to happen. It's an internal party faction out looking to capitalise & grab a bit of media coverage.

If look at the names referenced it's Team Johnson on manoeuvres and putting Sunak under pressure.

tobee · 13/12/2022 23:55

I can't remember the likelihood of success of 10 minute rule bill...?

Does Johnson remember where parliament is?
Probably forgotten how to vote its been so long.

So sickening that the Tory psychodrama is still being played out in all its tawdry misery.

This is so disgusting and it's my beloved MP at it again. Thought she was going to the Lords.

DuncinToffee · 14/12/2022 08:30

Question to Sunak yesterday, he is even avoiding looking at her

My mother fled war & famine in Biafra in the '60s w 3 small children.

The cargo plane we travelled in landed in Lisbon because Portugal had recognised Biafra & was 'safe'.

I asked the PM if he thinks we should have been required to stay there or join my Gran in #Newcastle.

iNews is reporting a rescue mission in the Channel Sad

Government have now confirmed a rescue is ongoing in the Channel, involving navy, border force, police and different lifeboat and coastguard teams.

It isn't yet clear how many people are in distress or if there have been any fatalities.

I've just seen the news.

So much could be resolved with legal safe routes and a swift, properly staffed asylum process.

Fladdermus · 14/12/2022 08:55

The French need to take control now as the UK have shown they are incapable. France should allow asylum seekers to buy tickets on cross channel ferries so they can cross safely. The UK can then deal with them once they arrive safely. Instantly get rid of the need for these dingy crossings and makes the UK government responsible for the problems it has created.

If only there was a way to co-operate with our neighbouring countries......

@Blossomtoes please don't be so unkind to Muppets. They managed to provide a highly amusing weekly variety show for many years, with great competence. We should probably put them in charge of the UK.

I'm laughing because I'll cry if I don't.

I distinctly remember Jeremy Hunt saying only a few days ago that they couldn't afford to give nurses a pay rise because reducing inflation was their priority.

And yet yesterday Sunak announced a whole list of measures to help clear the asylum backlog. This includes, amongst other things, doubling the number of asylum caseworkers and more staff and funding for the NCA. It even includes posting UK border control staff at Tiran's airport, although for what purpose God alone knows when the migrants are crossing the Channel by boat, not flying in to UK.

So how will any of the above help to reduce inflation? They have the money to spend on this, but not to give nurses a pay rise. It makes me sick 😡

Blossomtoes · 14/12/2022 11:39

Thanks Duncin, that’s hilarious 😂

Elodie09 · 14/12/2022 12:12

@DuncinToffee That is such a clever put down. Deservedly so .

mibbelucieachwell · 14/12/2022 13:06

I know, it's just shocking that wee Richie Sushi names reducing illegal immigration as his number one priority. And says how people coming here from Albania isn't right and isn't fair. Miss miss, it's not fair that I have to share my tuck with a boy I don't know.

Who will he blame for the problems he has helped to create when he can no longer blame Albanians?

I thought leaders were meant to reassure, motivate and rally the people for the common good, not encourage people to turn on each other. At least he stands up for some minorities- what a disaster that his chosen minority is the multi-millionaire minority to which he belongs.

More to the point that would be humane. You seriously expense humanity from this bunch of cunts?
