Same as BoJo the BJ couldn't less about the interests of the whole country when he flipped to Brexitism. Just to get into power for power sake.

UK banking rules in biggest shake-up in more than 30 years

There is something of a tragedy for the UK in Jeremy Hunt’s “Edinburgh Reforms” of financial services. 15 years after the onset of the global financial crisis, the cross-party hope that the UK economy could become less dependent on the City has been abandoned. 🧵 1/20

Well what could possibly go wrong in returning to a model that resulted in the last massive financial crash?

FFS.

Sunak has happy memories of 2008, he made loads of money

The BBC have just said Sunak is planning to ban the public sector from striking. That's smart, mass resignations instead then. Hmm

I wouldn't want to sound as being blanket dismissive of all civil servants, but I can see any "mass resignations" ever happening.

Most civil servants wouldn't last a day in any other habitat.

I'm an ex-civil servant, by the way.

And I've done pretty well in other habitats.

DuncinToffee · 09/12/2022 13:50

Maybe not mass resignations

Anti-strike laws could make disruption worse, Government's own impact assessment says.

But in an impact assessment recently published by the Department for Transport, officials said that introducing the new requirements could increase the number of strike days as unions seek retribution, and encourage staff to take other disruptive action, such as working to rule.

The department said that “an increased number of strikes could ultimately result in more adverse impacts in the long term” and “a further significant unintended consequence of this policy could be the increase in staff taking action short of striking”.

If workers refused to turn up on strike days and ended up being fired, “employers may find that they are low on staff to run normal services”, the impact assessment added.

There is no money...

news.sky.com/story/royal-yacht-government-sunk-2-5m-on-successor-to-royal-yacht-britannia-before-project-was-scuppered-12764062

The government sunk almost £2.5m into commissioning a new royal yacht before scuppering the project, Sky News can reveal.

Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request found the Ministry of Defence (MoD) splashed £2,476,000 on the vessel, a successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia.

I guess you are one of the the exceptions @DaSilvaP ?

The real issue is the greed, cruelty and sheer incompetence of this government. Smearing and demonising one set of workers just plays into their hands. We have to stop turning on one another. Thankfully all the Unions are standing together. I think they may bring the government down. I truly hope so.

Good 4 min video by Lewis Goodall on industrial action. The sheer breadth of action is astonishing when it's all laid out.

Context you need to know about pay and public sector industrial action- profession after profession are already in real terms worse off than they were in 2010. After years of pay restraint there is very little cushion to fall back on. 4 mins on strikes.

The BBC had a graph yesterday about who is striking when. It already needed updating a few hours later.

I don't see a negotiated end in sight - and that will suit the Government just fine. & media owners - known for their excellent trade relations - will help amplify a message of big bad unions. Makes a change from forriners/EU I suppose.

These strike graphs are pretty full up atm.
It doesn't seem to be hitting home yet how bad things are and RS was more interested in the new fighter jets today than these people who are striking :(

Its alright the government are going to allow the rich to gamble more of other people's money in the City of London, that is sure to solve the lack of nurses, get the post delivered and help the trains run on time.

DowningStreetParty · 09/12/2022 22:13

So this week in the Tory Time Machine, they’re taking us back to .. new coal mines at a time of environmental crisis, risky banking, and obnoxious tough talk on strikers and public sector employees.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/12/2022 09:07

What are the worst things that happened under a tory government? Fabulous, let's do all of them, it'll be a real vote winner.

I would ask wtf they're thinking, but I believe they stopped doing that a long time ago. This isn't a government, its a group of people constantly reacting to events without planning or thinking anything through. Something needs to be done in the future so dead duck governments can be got rid much quicker. The full damage they are doing is yet to be seen.

At some point this year the incompetence of the government moved from being amusing to being downright dangerous to all of us.

Could not agree more with this and have said similar the past few months.

Notonthestairs · 10/12/2022 11:10

I think we've forgotten what a functioning government looks like. Sunak is withdrawing legislation from Parliament rather than face votes and taking Ministers off media rounds.
They could be on a submarine for all we know.

Roussette · 10/12/2022 17:46

What a surprise. Not.

Kwasi Kwarteng says he got carried away as Chancellor

jgw1 · 10/12/2022 17:58

Roussette · 10/12/2022 17:46

Well it is certainly true that Truss and Kwarteng put rocket boosters under the economcy. The only trouble really was they were so stupid they had them pointing down not up.
