Most people had to watch the funeral on tv.@
Obviously Sir Gavin thought this was beneath him.
Such a tool

Following on from the above post from 80s on the last thread, I don't understand why Gavin thought that as a backbencher he had special rights to being at the monarch's funeral just because he has the fancy pants 'Privy Councillor' title.

According to good old Wiki there are 743 of them. They're like mice, increasing all over the place. Loads of them are politicians who aren't currently in the Cabinet, like Gavin was then. Wendy Morton was right in saying that they couldn't all go.

So to understand this, is it that Gavin was saying that he was special because he had dirt on everyone? And that made him specially important? But he says 'we', like he's talking on behalf of others. Who is this group? Him and another (ex) whip(s)?Confused I'd love to know.

Thanks Duncin Brew

L1ttledrummergirl · 07/11/2022 20:04

Thank you @DuncinToffee.

There was much I wanted to say on the last thread bit didn't know where to start.

Sunaks idea of "This government will have integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level. Trust is earned." Is different to mine.

I also don't like compulsory id for voting and wonder why this government seem to want it so badly.

Sunaks judgement is seriously flawed and he is dragging this country down into the gutter.

There is also this from Steven Swinford

Minister claims Gavin Williamson raised details about her private life in bid to silence her when she was on backbenches

She contacted CCHQ over weekend

Allies of Williamson says he raised matter in pastoral capacity

Well said.

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 20:12

The timeline indicates it was less to do with pastoral care and more about applying pressure.

"The Tory MP, who told the Conservative Party at the weekend that she was willing to discuss the matter, said that Williamson had called her into his office when he was chief whip in 2016.
At the time she was campaigning on an issue that was causing the government difficulty. During the meeting Williamson is said to have raised a sensitive issue about her private life, which she interpreted as a tacit threat."

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2022 20:19

And it seems there is a third complaint
Another female Tory MP has also provided evidence to the party about a recent encounter with Williamson.

We know why the government want the ID.

Any form of acceptable ID costs money. Those who don't have cars or have holidays don't have the ID and aren't going to spend £35-90 to get it.

If they want ID they need to provide national ID cards for free so everyone can apply and vote as is their right.

But they won't.

Thank you for the new thread

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 20:37

A senior civil servant claims Gavin Williamson told them to “slit your throat” in what they felt was a sustained campaign of bullying while he was defence secretary.
The Ministry of Defence official told the Guardian Williamson made the extraordinary remarks in front of other civil servants in a meeting, and on a separate occasion told them to “jump out of the window”.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/nov/07/senior-civil-servant-claims-gavin-williamson-told-them-slit-your-throat

He's not denied using those words...

Notonthestairs · 07/11/2022 20:38

Starting to feel like Pincher all over again. They know how he behaves and appoint him anyway.

tobee · 07/11/2022 20:47

Sadly the only surprising thing about any of this is that, allegedly, Williamson has any allies.

Thanks for the new thread @DuncinToffee

TokyoSushi · 07/11/2022 20:53

Checking in! Surely, surely Williamson has to go?!

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2022 21:03

Shock at those comments, and he got Education after that Angry

Roussette · 07/11/2022 21:19

Thx for new thread Duncin and great thread title!

Williamson is not a man who sends texts in a fit of anger. He is a blackmailer who will threaten anyone who stands in the way of what he wants

Downnotdown · 07/11/2022 21:22

So after all the not going/am going, Sunak only managed to stay at COP27 for 1 day.

All that just to show his face and get the photo opportunity?

AutumnCrow · 07/11/2022 21:26

Was Williamson trying to behave like Malcolm Tucker? Did he think that adopting the persona of a political bruiser was a way of compensating for insecurities, I wonder.
