Lee Anderson? Jonathan Gullis?

Notonthestairs · 01/12/2022 17:23

I'm too lazy to check their constituencies!

Notonthestairs · 01/12/2022 17:23

Lee Anderson? Jonathan Gullis?

Gullis I think his name is, oh plus Iain Duncan Smith, Esther McVey & Penny Mordaunt.

DuncinToffee · 01/12/2022 17:36

NEW: Labour HOLD City of Chester by-election.

Labour: 61.2% (+11.6)
Conservative: 22.4% (-15.9)
Lib Dem: 8.4% (+1.5)
Green: 2.8% (+0.1)
Reform: 2.7% (+0.2)

Lowest Conservative share in the seat since universal suffrage and indeed before (albeit this is a by election).

And in a local election in Waverley, seat went from Tory to Lib Dem ( Hunt's constituency)

I've had bbc breakfast on this morning in the background for nearly an hour, I've learnt that Elton John is going to play music in a tent at some point, but haven't yet heard the result of the by election. Maybe they discussed it in the minute or so I was out of the room but to think they spent more time on a camping trip than something which affects the country is ludicrous.

On another note:

twitter.com/MrHarryCole/status/1598438037461127168?t=9VmWincMcwezDIgV7MuvPA&s=19

How long before we hear they have Sunaks unconditional support?

DuncinToffee · 02/12/2022 09:03

BBC2 at 8 mentioned the Chester result, Elton John and something about Braverman's reappointment.

That Harry Cole tweet, FFS another one Angry

I think Sky were reporting the result as the 6th largest swing from Tories to Labour since WW2. I am not sure if that is in by-elections or not.

DuncinToffee · 02/12/2022 09:59

They are also reporting this was Tories worst result in Chester since 1832

Jess Phillips' response to the new sexual abuse allegations

Suspect Rishi Sunak will peddle line that they don't suspend because doing so identifies MP & that can identify the victim. This lie is based in self preservation not care for victim. Of all victims I have worked with across parties, every one was fine with MP being identified.

Presumably the same applies to anyone in any other profession against whom allegations are made.
A teacher for instance who has sexual abuse allegations made against them, must be allowed to continue in work so as not to publically identify them.

Seems like the rare Tory MPs with any credibility are leaving the sinking ship. Javid has just announced he’s not running in the next election.

What are the chances that the candidates that the Tories put up in place of the retiring MPS are ex Kippers, shifting the party even further into fairy land?

Seems like the rare Tory MPs with any credibility are leaving the sinking ship. Javid has just announced he’s not running in the next election.

Tory MP Charles Walker to @TimesRadio: “It's almost impossible to see us coming back from this, I suspect, we will lose the next general election.”

He hopes Sunak makes sure “Labour doesn't wipe the floor with us, so we perhaps win 220 seats, and we form a viable opposition…”

How can Sunak do that? Unless he’s got a time machine or magical powers, of course.

Johnson doing his best for the citizens of Uxbridge in Singapore...

"The former prime minister, speaking in Singapore, lightheartedly blamed the summer heatwave for the “irrational” decision by Tory MPs to oust him as leader. He made exactly the same quip at Cop27 in Egypt last month.
Talking to a technology conference he said: “I mean, even in the UK it was 40 degrees in July this year, which you know, in my view, may explain why . . . British people find it very difficult to think of 40 degrees heat in the summer. I think it may explain some of the irrational decisions that you saw in Westminster round about that period.”

Yes I'd expect them to recruit from Reform party followers.

InMySpareTime · 02/12/2022 16:16

I looked on TheyWorkForYou and Johnson actually popped into Parliament and voted on the 22nd of November (his second vote since at least April).
He voted to freeze the personal allowance and Basic Rate until 2028, essentially bringing tens of thousands more people into the tax system.

It was 24 degrees in London on 7th July.
But never mind facts.

Notonthestairs · 02/12/2022 16:28

He's voted 2x since April?

Not only a sign of how work shy he is but also a clue as to how little business has been conducted in Parliament this year.

DuncinToffee · 02/12/2022 16:35

He received a donation of a secondhand bike (£4000) so at least he get about and meet his constituents
