Will these planted questions involve raffle tickets?

Or maybe fridges

Existential crisis for Rishi Sunak tonight as he pulls a vote on housing planning for fear of his first big Tory rebellion.

He can't blink and dodge big votes for the next two years, can he?

twitter.com/kitty_donaldson/status/1595122081284624385?t=IWVqtvJbwCqhoScg_b-4oQ&s=19

Have there been any votes on government bills since Sunak became Prime Minister?

L1ttledrummergirl · 23/11/2022 19:35

Not that I'm aware of, I wouldn't hold your breath though.

Sunak really doesn't like PMQs does he. How long before he tries to cancel it?

Cornettoninja · 23/11/2022 19:45

He really doesn’t - it shows him up as out of his depth. I was really hoping he was going to get pulled up on his original stance on COP afterwards given it appears it was pretty important regarding relations with France and the channel crossings.

I think he has a very narrow comfort zone for international relations. If it’s not economics he falters.

Notonthestairs · 23/11/2022 20:12

John Crace summing up PMQs.

On the OECD projections -
Why couldn’t we all just close our eyes and concentrate on enjoying that one day in April when things hadn’t been so bad. Typical Labour to want to think about how people might pay their bills in the next 24 months. It was that kind of negativity that was bringing the UK down.

True.

But he must of known that was a stick he'd be continuously beaten with?

Michael Gove in an ABSOLUTE PANIC about having made the initial introduction of that controversial Michelle Mone PPE contract. Worth watching the whole clip. Definitely more to this story.

BBC Newsnight

"There are multiple complaints, from senior people... who work very closely with him"

Newsnight heard bullying allegations against Dominic Raab, as well as claims that he used his personal email account for government business

(TWELVE PPS’s making complaints from multiple Departments.)

There is no way that Gove hasn't been back and reread those email exchange with Mone. That National Crime Agency are involved!
So yes I'm sure there is a lot more to that story.

Notonthestairs · 24/11/2022 12:23

The front pages of the Metro, i, Financial Times, Times, Telegraph, Daily Express, Daily Mail, Mirror, Daily Star and Sun all appeared in "The Papers" section of the BBC News app this morning.

But this one, from the Guardian, did not. I wonder why?

Must admit I often check the next days headlines before going to bed and my antenna goes up if a newspaper isn't included.

mibbelucieachwell · 24/11/2022 13:41

Our government is so incompetent, nasty and corrupt that the fact that they shouldn't have had to scrabble for ppe as a pandemic had been predicted by scientists as 'overdue' for ages seems to have been forgotten. Overshadowed by the corruption in giving contracts for poor quality resources to their mates.

Michael er eh em Gove 🤣

They make out like it was a global issue and that only. True everyone was scrabbling for more PPE and supplies were running very low. But I never heard reports here in Sweden of them actually running out anywhere. As far as I'm aware there were no Swedish covid wards where the staff were wearing bin bags. I couldn't buy a 3M mask so had to settle for 2Ms but I'm pretty sure that healthcare personel always had the right gear.

Fladdermus · 24/11/2022 16:07

Actually I've just realised that wasn't entirely correct. I could have always bought a 3M mask so long as I didn't mind looking like Darth Vader. DH bought one as he commutes on the train every day and has severe asthma so wasn't worried about how it looked.

Fladdermus · 24/11/2022 16:11

I meant FFP3 and FFP2 not 3M and 2M. I have covid now and it's turning my brain into soup.

mibbelucieachwell · 24/11/2022 18:07

Get better soon @Fladdermus

DuncinToffee · 24/11/2022 18:14

Other countries had dodgy PPE dealings too but not sure if it was on a big a scale as the UK and the goverment VIP lanes.

Thank you. This is my third run in with covid. First 2 were a walk in the park. This time it's kicking the shit out of me.

L1ttledrummergirl · 24/11/2022 20:20

I've only had covid once, in March, and that was enough. I'm still not fully recovered and it's pants. I really hope you get well soon.

itsgettingweird · 24/11/2022 20:44

Hope you feel better soon Fladd.

I had it March 2020 and then Jan 2022.

First time was dreadful and it was months until I properly recovered.

2nd time was about 7 weeks after my 3rd jab and was just a really painful throat for 24 hours! Felt tried for a few days too.

Notonthestairs · 24/11/2022 20:50

Urgh Fladdermus - wishing you a speedy recovery. I hope you can rest up. We've all had covid twice with varying levels of feeling like crap. It's grim.

Roussette · 24/11/2022 20:57

Hope you get better soon Fladdermus. It's horrible 🌷

I am just incensed about the PPE Mine story. The lengths her and her husband went to,not hide this massive windfall is disgusting. Her kids have bought massive properties on the back of this and she has set up trusts for them

Thank god for the Guardian not giving up investigating this scandal but will there be repurcussions? She should be kicked out the HoL at the very least. She lied about having nothing to do with the PPE company

On another note my useless MP has gone completely AWOL and now doesn't even do an out of office reply to anything. I don't bombard him but have sent the same email twice. Nowt. Zilch. Nada

Any ideas about who I complain to about this? Tory MP. In post 30 years. On 1922 committee

itsgettingweird · 24/11/2022 21:06

I sent an email to mine through "they work for us"

I've had the email from them asking if I've had a response

Obviously I haven't. Braverman never does.

Ditto. It's been two weeks and I've just had the email asking if I have had a response and I have said no. But that's it

I want to complain directly to someone, will research who!

Notonthestairs · 24/11/2022 21:13

You could write to their local constituency party to complain.
Local newspaper possibly.
Local councillors.

It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be mechanisms to get it registered somewhere.

I used to have this problem with our previous MP - turned out I wasn't alone.

Notonthestairs · 24/11/2022 21:15

I feel similarly about Mone. The barefaced lies and corruption. £29 million pounds taken from the tax payer.

I'm not a huge fan of the Guardian generally but I admire their tenacity with this matter.
