I thought Jeremy Cunt was the second messiah sent to save us from the mahoosive fuckup of the countries finances caused by the previous chancellors?
Sorry not sorry Putins war, covid, Corbyn, Labour party, anyone but tories. Confused

Well certainly anyone but our former chancellor who's now PM.

He is a very naughty boy.

Will these planted questions involve raffle tickets?

Or maybe fridges

Existential crisis for Rishi Sunak tonight as he pulls a vote on housing planning for fear of his first big Tory rebellion.

He can't blink and dodge big votes for the next two years, can he?

Over the last few weeks there have been many questions asked by conservative MPs checking he supports the bill. As he's now pulled it, does this mean he lied to parliamentagain?

Notonthestairs · 23/11/2022 10:29

Supreme Court has ruled Scottish Government can not legislate to hold a referendum on independence without approval from British government.

I don't think the ruling is a huge surprise.

Interesting to see how it plays out though - is it a win for the SNP insofar as they can say it shows how restrictive the legislation is?

DuncinToffee · 23/11/2022 11:27

Braverman is 'answering' questions from the Home Affairs Committee

One example (more tweets from Best for Britain to choose from)

Wow.

Tory MP @timloughton: "I'm a 16-year-old orphan from an East African country escaping a war zone and religious persecution, and I have a sibling legally in the UK at the moment. What is the safe and legal route for me to come to the UK?"

Suella Braverman: Unable to answer.

Excruciating.

What's interesting though is that she doesn't want to say out loud that there isn't a legal way to apply. I thought her fan base would love that.

I suppose that sort of public acknowledgment would highlight the inadequacies in the system and perhaps be news to some people.

Blossomtoes · 23/11/2022 11:48

I thought it had all gone quiet on the Braverman front. Does she ever answer a question?

L1ttledrummergirl · 23/11/2022 12:28

Give her some credit guys, at least she bothered to turn up today. She might have shown she doesn't have a clue, but she actually got out of bed.

AdamRyan · 23/11/2022 12:32

That's hilarious
The process appears to be "arrive illegally then apply for asylum" and the message is "only those who arrive through safe, legal routes are genuine"

Great question from the committee, really shows the issues

Cornettoninja · 23/11/2022 14:00

I love that clip of Loughton vs Braverman. He’s not really on my radar but based on that I like the guy.

DuncinToffee · 23/11/2022 16:37

Adam Tolley, KC appt'd by Rishi Sunak to investigate complaints of bullying against Raab, has previously rep'd in employment tribunals: Charles when Prince of Wales; a string of gvt departments; and an unidentified security service.

twitter.com/Direthoughts/status/1595423985524695042?t=8__lA2h9wcUltjIgOi-AiQ&s=19

So the employment expert appointed by the govt to investigate Raab is actually a lawyer who specialises in defending high profile clients against claims by junior staff...

Absolutely this.

Basically there isn't an option and they don't want to admit that but are admitting it by omission of any answer.

EXCL: Partygate hearings into whether Boris Johnson misled Commons could be delayed until January after No 10 handed over documents four months after they were requested

I'm less bothered about Tolley having worked for establishment figures previously - that will be the same for many KCs.

The terms of reference are key though.

No surprises here. I'm imagine some documents are just a haze of redactions.

itsgettingweird · 23/11/2022 16:54

Just catching up on PMQs.

Sunak is tying himself up in knots.

Johnson used bluster as a defence.

Sunak just seems irritated that anyone dares to challenge him and is getting quite cross!

I thought everything was handed over to Sue Gray and the Met months ago. Did I imagine that?

InMySpareTime · 23/11/2022 17:05

@Blossomtoes Sue Gray got the stuff about the gatherings, I assume the delayed stuff is about the extent to which Johnson Misled the House.

Blossomtoes · 23/11/2022 17:10

Ah, yes of course. But there’s a public record of what he said in Hansard. He flat out lied to the House. It’s open and shut.

Notonthestairs · 23/11/2022 17:17

I think they need to establish that he understood the regulations had been broken before he spoke to the HoC ie what preparation/consideration was undertaken prior to giving those statements. He'll claim he thought they were all within the rules.

The Conservative peer Michelle Mone and her children secretly received £29m originating from the profits of a PPE business that was awarded large government contracts after she recommended it to ministers, documents seen by the Guardian indicate.
Lady Mone’s support helped the company, PPE Medpro, secure a place in a “VIP lane” the government used during the coronavirus pandemic to prioritise companies that had political connections. It then secured contracts worth more than £200m.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/nov/23/revealed-tory-peer-michelle-mone-secretly-received-29m-from-vip-lane-ppe-firm

Article suggests that the money was put in to off shore accounts - Mone & children were the beneficiaries.

Mone failed to declare an interest in PPE Medpro.

DuncinToffee · 23/11/2022 18:41

Who would have thought....

These concerns were reported when she got her peerage IIRC

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 23/11/2022 18:50

The utterly disgraceful element is that she pretended to have no connection to Medpro. Lies. She recommended the company to the minister of procurement.

However the Good Law Project, a not-for-profit campaign group, pursued a freedom of information request that led to the information commissioner ordering the government to publish the names of both the companies that had received contracts through the VIP lane and those who had referred them. When it did so, PPE Medpro was on the list, with the name of the VIP who initially referred the company to the government: “Baroness Mone”.

As bad as it is they are still doing this "cash for mates" stuff it's reassuring that they are being forced to come public with it.

The more attention it gets the more they'll stop trying to hide it - (or do it) hopefully!
