And Mone has tweeted this.

twitter.com/MichelleMone/status/1595734300749697026?t=6QKDDifglpQgaxGyIjFyQQ&s=19

First tweet for 11 months. No, we certainly don't believe her

Notonthestairs · 24/11/2022 22:26

She can't meme away failing to register her interest AND pocketing £29 million.

the80sweregreat · 25/11/2022 09:03

That meme of hers is disgusting

DuncinToffee · 25/11/2022 09:12

Surprised she left the comments on, don't think she will read any of them.

The Times long read is actually quite short today - that's a good thing!

But there is a section on the Simon Clarke amendment to the Levelling Up & Regeneration Bill which was backed by Johnson & Truss - essentially breaking with convention and not offering straightforward loyalty to the new PM.

No surprises there but goes on to say -

Johnson’s challenge in particular represents the beginning of a new phase in their relationship. Until now the former prime minister had been publicly supportive of Sunak, but allies say he will become more robust in his interventions in defending what he sees as his legacy issues, including levelling up.
His supporters are convinced that Sunak will fall and that Johnson will replace him, with the May local elections seen as a focal point. “We’re not going quietly,” one backer of Johnson said. “They won’t be able to get any legislation through.”
All a bit similar to the difficulties Theresa May faced with the same characters blocking & agitating. It's going to be horribly divisive and terrible for the country.

the80sweregreat · 26/11/2022 08:59

So, Sounds like BJ will start rocking the boat
..

Notonthestairs · 26/11/2022 09:09

It's already started but I think after New Year it will really get going. I think Sunak will have a cabinet reshuffle and probably move out Hunt (he's effectively absorbed the crap for Sunak so far).

But come January pressures (NHS/CoL crisis/cold weather) Johnson supporters will step up their agitating. They still have links to certain media outlets - remember Murdoch spent £11k flying Johnson to meet him in the US in September- it will become more and more difficult for Sunak to get a positive headline.

And then there will be the local elections.

We will be back to 2018/early 2019.

Lonelycrab · 26/11/2022 09:09

What a way to run a country. Bunch of fools trying to wrestle the keys of 10DS off each other, like it’s all a game.

Notonthestairs · 26/11/2022 09:10

That's exactly it. A game.

Cornettoninja · 26/11/2022 09:16

it’s so draining.

I don’t know whether the wider public are more wise to these tactics now? I feel like all the tories are under far more scrutiny than they’ve ever been and I’m not convinced the same tactics will work again?

BlessMyCottonSocks · 26/11/2022 09:19

And still the tories put party before country. Whatever you think of Sunak - and I don’t think very much of him at all - he at least might have brought a little stability for a while which the country desperately needs. But oh no, the usual suspects continue to heckle from the back, not because they want to ‘robustly challenge’ him on policy issues but because they want to preserve their so-called legacy and have another self-aggrandising tilt at power next time round. ‘They won’t be able to get any legislation through’. And so the country will continue to drift during a time of crisis the like of which we’ve never seen before. Sickening.

BlessMyCottonSocks · 26/11/2022 09:20

They treat it like a bloody game when it’s the well- being of millions that’s at risk. As I said, sickening.

Notonthestairs · 26/11/2022 09:27

I agree that it won't work on some groups.

But I think the turgid detail of Westminster shenanigans will have passed some people by.

Or they dislike "backstabber" Sunak (overlooking Johnson's move against May and Truss and Kwarteng's "stealth" campaign from January/February).

Some people love a bit of flamboyance in a PM (yes I'm rolling my eyes).

Some people cling to the "we lost the best PM ever over cake" bollocks.

And many many people just vote blue without giving it a huge amount of thought.

Lonelycrab · 26/11/2022 09:35

And many many people just vote blue without giving it a huge amount of thought

Was having a conversation with my Dm78 the other day about the next election. She’s a moderate Tory voter (as opposed to DF82 who’s full on swivel eyed) and she said, under no circumstances ever would she cast a vote for Lab. Not even if the policies were the best for the country. Something about they’ll bankrupt the country and can’t be trusted (WTAF!) Probably vote Green or poss LD.

So there’s that kind of closed mindedness that will always play to the Tories advantage regardless.

Notonthestairs · 26/11/2022 09:49

Turn out will be interesting. Obviously we've got another couple of years to weather but I wonder how many wont change their vote but will opt out.

the80sweregreat · 26/11/2022 10:00

My Tory friends and family would never ever vote anything else! Especially my sibling who was brought up very working class and now considers himself ' lower middle class ' .. so a 'notch up '! 😂
My lovely conservative voter friend just quotes the DM as do my neighbours, although they are now the reform party. Not sure that will have a candidate where I live though
I am surrounded by them

Cornettoninja · 26/11/2022 10:38

Theres not much to do but laugh (grim british humour I suppose) when someone says this. Worrying about labour (or any other party) bankrupting the country…. Whilst sitting in an essentially bankrupt country. It’s boggling.

This morning I’ve read reports about two child deaths; one from tonsillitis progressed to pneumonia that the hospital had sent home citing no beds or doctors and another from a strep A outbreak (no details on treatment but this is usually treatable with timely intervention and antibiotics)

And still there’s tumbleweed around current NHS provision from politicians.

Lonelycrab · 26/11/2022 10:45

But…but…. Covid, Ukraine….erm…global recession…etc etc

Big decisions…vaccines…something else…

<yawn>

Thats how it goes.

Does it matter if dyed in the wool Tories stay Tory (although evidence form eg Shropshire does suggest that isn't a given)? What matters most is getting the Red Wall back, surely? I think Dehenna Davidson knows which way the wind is blowing there.

Notonthestairs · 26/11/2022 11:10

The deaths of those children and the asylum seeker is truly dreadful. Those poor families.

MPs have been asked to say whether they intend to stand in the next election - the deadline is 5th December. I think 7 have already said they are leaving politics. It will be interesting to see who else decides to step down.

Notonthestairs · 26/11/2022 11:15

I've just had three flyers through from our Lib Dem MP.

Part of me wonders whether they (Government) might go for an earlier than expected election and hope Sunak gets his own mandate. It would shut Johnson etc down.

But that would be madness right?

DuncinToffee · 26/11/2022 11:18

Is it mostly young Tory red wall mp's?

That’s my bloke. He could never bring himself to vote anything but Tory and said he’d stay at home if Truss was PM, he feels the same about Johnson. He actually agreed when I said they think it’s a game a couple of weeks ago.
