Oh God, more vague poorly conceived Brexit shifting policy sands being translated into shit, unworkable legislation

DuncinToffee · 21/11/2022 18:05

Compassionate Conservatives

During the match, you probably missed this hair-raising interview with Tory MP & ERG member, Craig Mackinlay. Worth watching in full and sharing

TL/DR Unemployed or sick or young people - or those retiring early - should be 'encouraged' with 'toughness' to fill vacancies. ~AA

For the avoidance of doubt, much of the number he mentions as 'unemployed' (5.3m), is made up of people on incapacity benefit - even in care. He is quite literally suggesting people who cannot care for themselves, get up off their bed and go work in care, or face 'toughness'.

I remember my non verbal relative with downs syndrome being sent a letter saying they may need to attend a fit for work interview. My dm was very upset until I pointed out that she should sit my relative in front of the interviewer and wait at the back of the room. The interview would have gone swimmingly I'm sure.

Craig Mackinlay is a twat.

Well, a re-release of I, Daniel Blake is in order.

Notonthestairs · 21/11/2022 18:31

Craig Mackinlay of ERG and Net Zero Scrutiny Group - funded by taxpayers and no known use to man or beast.

(Tories really love their Secret Seven clubs don't they?)

Mackinlay was accused of misinformation by the Grantham Institute at the London School of Economics. It suggested he had relied on “inaccurate and misleading claims, particularly about the investments required to achieve the statutory target of net zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, in order to promote [the NZSG] cause”.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/feb/08/tories-fighting-net-zero-plans-are-dragging-climate-into-new-culture-war-experts-say

Wasn't he investigated for electoral fraud? Falsifying expenses. Nice work if you can get it Craig.

DuncinToffee · 21/11/2022 18:45

Ofcourse he is

Rishi Sunak is registered with a private GP practice that guarantees all patients with urgent health concerns will be seen “on the day”.

@Piggywaspushed
"I, Daniel Blake" is going to be on stage next year. Sadly it is still current , no surprises there.
We need to get tickets for every single Tory MP to go watch it.

CBI conference, Peppa Pig last year, Unicorns this year

Rishi Sunak - "Under my leadership the United Kingdom will not pursue any relationship with Europe.. I believe in brexit... & brexit is already delivering enormous benefits & opportunities... we have proper control of our borders.."

twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1594649448155586560?t=62jA2HPDW0oVE4_Icw4AGg&s=19

Come on then Sunak, list those benefits and opportunities!

And define what our borders being out of control will look like!

David Davis on the brink of making sense -

Brexit has failed to deliver any notable economic benefits, more than six years after the vote to leave the EU, David Davis has admitted.

Then he blames Covid for Brexit not working (despite our EU neighbours also having had Covid I think and their economies doing well)

Then he claims we got the vaccines because of Brexit.

So close David, so close.

Former Tory MP, Owen Paterson, is suing the UK govt at the European Court of Human Rights over Parliament's ruling that he broke lobbying rules.

Paterson alleges that his Article 8 rights (i.e. right to privacy) were breached.

You have to laugh.

I laughed.
It will throw additional light on the shenanigans. I highly doubt Paterson will come out of it well - and it won't do certain other politicians any favours.
So be it.

Fladdermus · 22/11/2022 16:07

Sorry, what the fuckitty fuck now? He's going to court because he believes MPs taking illegal back handers is a private matter and shouldn't get them disciplined by Parliament?

DuncinToffee · 22/11/2022 16:15

This is the Owen Paterson who in 2014 said he wants the UK to "break free from the ECHR" so the Govt could "deport illegal immigrants who come to Calais" as a key part of why he supported Brexit.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 22/11/2022 16:26

Best sentence ever Grin

And yes - what the fuckitty fuck?!

I'm sure somewhere there is a law about right to privacy Vs breaking rules. If there wasn't how do criminals get caught?

Well that would hamper a lot of police investigations. You couldn't search a dealer for drugs, check financial records for lots of issues, any number of things. Totally crazy.

The thing that amazes me with the bullying is when their colleagues come out and say, "I've never seen Priti bullying anyone." "I don't recognise Dominic in these descriptions." I mean bullies don't bully people higher up in the organisation, I mean Priti wasn't going to bully Johnson, Raab isn't going to bully Sunak. I always wonder if they understand how bullying works.

Something to listen out for tomorrow-

"Rishi Sunak is said to be on #pmqs damage limitation mode after the weekend's story about a Swiss-style deal put the cat among the pigeons.

Widely seen as having come from Jeremy Hunt, who is now under pressure to keep his job...

I'm told tomorrow's planning includes some planted questions about the UK's relationship with the EU, which Sunak will flat-bat to show there's "no backsliding".

One MP says: "Rishi wants a stage managed response - to stop the conversation."

twitter.com/catneilan/status/1595119612387291136?s=46&t=yHMH-4Znfvn9uDleVornqg

Thread goes on to suggest that there will be a reshuffle in the NY - Hunt out and possibly changes at the Home Office...
