👋 Still reading this thread but not commenting as feel too disheartened. Dreading what Thursday's budget will bring.

I lurk nothing really to add, I’m past anger & just very depressed.

Pippa Crerar

New developments tonight:

Top MoJ officials have now ruled there should always be senior civil servant in room for meetings with Raab.

DExEU perm sec understood to have shared general concerns about his behaviour with Cab Sec after officials raised them.

Didn't Pincher got assigned a chaperone?

It is ridiculous Angry

Or like a half decent human being. It's fucking ridiculous.

tobee · 15/11/2022 23:43

Just been listening to today's The News Agents about Raab and bullying. Liz Bates Sky News political correspondent who was delved into Westminster toxic culture, predicting that Raab will stay as allegations have been made before about Raab and Sunak needs him.

Also, titbit from John Sopel recalling, when he was BBC North America correspondent, that when Raab was going to US it was a nightmare for the Americans because Raab's people said that there absolutely should never be a tomato on Raab's plate!

Saucery · 16/11/2022 06:19

Is Raab allergic to tomatoes?

Is Raab allergic to tomatoes?

Why, have you got a Xmas hamper idea?

I’ll find his address.

Grin while I would never piss about with a real food allergy, a little hamper of toy tomatoes like you find in children's play kitchens....

Inflation hits 11.1% - up from 10.1% a month ago and the highest level in 40 years.

Big numbers are good right?

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/11/2022 08:47

Anyone who buys groceries could have told you inflation has risen since last month...

Good job I'm on a diet and eating less I'm hungry and furious all the time though 😅

DuncinToffee · 16/11/2022 08:57

Even bigger numbers for low income households

twitter.com/Peston/status/1592788211943624704?t=b7UVt9NKU0TBAKCezEdB5A&s=19

Food and non-alcoholic drinks prices rose by 16.4% in year to Oct 2022, the fastest food inflation since 1977. The cost of housing and household services - including energy - rose 11.7%, highest in at least 70 years. Because the price of basics is soaring, @ONS estimates…inflation for low income households was 11.9%, compared to the average for all households of 11.1%, and 10.5% for high income households. CPI inflation for those in council or housing association homes stood at 12.2%. Inflation is pernicious for all and worst for those with least

Me too.

£7 for a tub of butter? Not fucking likely!

the80sweregreat · 16/11/2022 09:33

The prices are ridiculous lately
I feel for those with children. There are only two of us now, but like everyone else the money spent on the essentials is just going up and up weekly. We have cut back , but you still need to eat..

mibbelucieachwell · 16/11/2022 10:23

Indeed. I just don't know how families manage these days.

the80sweregreat · 16/11/2022 10:25

It's but just little ones that cost , teenagers eat a lot more food too.
For big families it must be hard

DuncinToffee · 16/11/2022 11:24

NEW: Deputy PM Dominic Raab confirms two formal complaints have been made about his behaviour, “in parallel”, from his time as Foreign Secretary and his first period as Justice Secretary. He’s asked the PM for an “independent investigation…as soon as possible.”

Asked whether Brexit has contributed in any way to the UK's current economic downturn, Rishi Sunak blames "the legacy of Covid" and "what Putin is doing".
Asked about the impact of Brexit on the UK, Rishi Sunak says that "every country is gonna have idiosyncratic things", but "global factors" are the real cause of the downturn.
In reality, while all countries have been affected by Covid and Ukraine, the UK is alone among G7 countries in shrinking since the pandemic

I hope it's as robust as the one into Patel's bullying.

InMySpareTime · 16/11/2022 13:07

Listening to PMQs is 😱.
"Why can't we just turn the boats back"
"Why do we let illegal immigrants come here"
"We should give asylum seekers only the most basic accommodation"
(In reply to a comment about a family stuck in "temporary accommodation" for years) "we should absolutely keep immigrants and Albanian criminals in secure accommodation"
"It isn't wise to allow asylum seekers to work here - people should not be looking to come here for a better life, just to escape torture".

I'm paraphrasing but it's a horrible mix of Ill informed, dog-whistle, conflating immigration and asylum, calling children criminals, and inhumane opinions about human beings.

InMySpareTime · 16/11/2022 13:11

Sorry, not PMQs, an urgent question on immigration.

NEW: Rishi Sunak is appointing an “independent” investigator from outside government to establish facts of Dominic Raab allegations and report back to him.

However, No 10 concedes that PM himself will be “ultimate arbiter” of complaints. The judge and jury, if you like.
