How many loads of washing do you do a week

Boring I know but I’m just trying to figure out if I’m doing an excessive amount and how to cut down.

One adult, two teenagers and a one-year-old. I would say I do around 14-18 washes a week. Normal?

15 is a lot I would say. We work full time so all of our washing gets done over the weekend: it usually is around four washes a week for two adults, one toddler. But I guess it will depend on your washing machine size too - we have a 9kg one if that makes any difference.

AriettyHomily · 07/11/2022 09:22

No that's ridiculous!

Two adults, two teens, I do 6/8 at home and a big one at the launderette for towels / bedding as required.

toomuchlikemyusername · 07/11/2022 09:25

We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). Mine averages out at about 7 washes per week.
I think teens wearing suits for school helps considerably. I always do full loads and if there's not enough whites/darks etc them it just exits in the basket until there is.
I think I'd be going mad if I did as much as you do OP. It already feels like a hamster wheel keeping up with my load a day!

7 for 2 adults. I prefer to do this so easier to get dried.

CornedBeef451 · 07/11/2022 09:27

I do about 4 loads for one adult and two teens.

goodmorningsunny · 07/11/2022 09:27

There I was thinking my 5 washes a week was a lot... (we are only 2 adults. 1 baby, 1 dog though...)

Yeah, that sounds like too many.

OrangePomander · 07/11/2022 09:27

Probably around the same as the op. Though some of those are 15 minute quick washes for school uniform etc.

spaceshiptrain · 07/11/2022 09:28

I have to do 1-2 loads a day. My husband wears things just once only otherwise he smells. The light and dark baskets fill up daily and I also have the tea towel and cleaning clothes load so on the whole it's always at least one, sometimes two loads every single day.

spaceshiptrain · 07/11/2022 09:29

Mine area only 20 min washes though on 30 degrees or 40 for the tea towels. So the machine is only on for 40 mins, but then I use the drier for everything too.

MistyFrequencies · 07/11/2022 09:30

We have 2 kids, 2 adults at home and i do on average 6 loads a week. One towels, One Sheets, One Whites, One darks, One in betweens and One because someone threw paint on themselves/vomited/played soccer in the mud etc etc.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 07/11/2022 09:30

3 - 4 dark loads
1 light load
1 - 3 white loads (depending on bedding)
1 towel load
0 - 1 bath mat load

So between 5 and 8 “normal” loads. Probably 6 on average as I do try and balance the busyness of weeks.

Also dh does between 3 and 5 loads of specialist sports kit. (For him and the kids - he and dd train 5 times a week and Ds trains 2 - 3 times a week.)

So about 10 but would be a lot less if it wasn’t for the awful sports kit.

2 adults, 2 tweens.

AuntieMarys · 07/11/2022 09:32

4
2 adults.

LadyDanburysHat · 07/11/2022 09:33

Two adults, two teens and one younger child. We do around 6 loads a week. 14-18 seems excessive. Even when mine were all playing different muddy sports multiple times a week I never did that many.

I know a one year old probably produces a lot of laundry. But I don't even know how you get that many loads done a week.

TimeToSellAKidney · 07/11/2022 09:33

2 adults & a 5 month old baby in reusable nappies.
I think around 9 a week?
Nappy wash every 3 days, so 2-3x
Baby clothes x1
Bedsheets x1
Towels x1
Adult clothes x2
Guinea pig bedding (we use fleece) x1

AlwaysLatte · 07/11/2022 09:33

2 adults, one 14 yr old and one 12 year old - not sure how many but bedding (3/4 x king/double bedding which is bulky) and towels take 5 loads a week on their own. PE kits and uniform, 2 daily gym users, dog bedding, etc. in addition to clothes - the washing machine is on a lot but I've started washing it at 30.

PinkButtercups · 07/11/2022 09:33

2 adults & DS 3yo.

Maybe 5/6.

Amboseli · 07/11/2022 09:33

Omg that's loads! We're 2 adults and one teenager. We do 2-3 a week maximum. But I've got a large capacity washing machine 12kg and use a colour catcher so don't separate whites and coloureds.

Northernsoullover · 07/11/2022 09:34

3 a week usually. Bedding is adhoc.

courgettigreensadwater · 07/11/2022 09:34

Four 'adults' in my house. Do a wash every day of clothing/towels and then extra washes for bedding.

Spanielsarepainless · 07/11/2022 09:34

Four to five. Two adults and two dogs.

Northernsoullover · 07/11/2022 09:35

3 adults I should say. Thinking about it it's probably 4 per week as I will do towels ad hoc too.

hauxwell · 07/11/2022 09:36

One or two a week for an adult and a three year old. I've no idea how some people make so much washing.

SBAM · 07/11/2022 09:36

About 8-9 washes a week for a family of two adults and two children.
One wash bedding, one towels, one or two dark washes, a light wash usually every other week, two kids washes. One wash is swimming costumes and towels. One of cleaning cloths and tea towels, usually every other week. One of kids bedding, usually every other week.

Frazzled2207 · 07/11/2022 09:36

2 adults and 2 boys (7 and 9).
8/9 washes a week.
however other than underwear we don’t wash stuff unless dirty or smelly.
bedding we aim for fortnightly but it’s usually less

Goldieshock · 07/11/2022 09:36

5 of us and (daily gym kits)

1-2 washes per day (one overnight, one in the day quick cold wash)

Towels and bedding at the weekend 60 degrees wash

Maybe 14/15 washes a week total
