How many loads of washing do you do a week

Boring I know but I’m just trying to figure out if I’m doing an excessive amount and how to cut down.

One adult, two teenagers and a one-year-old. I would say I do around 14-18 washes a week. Normal?

Two adults and a 4 year old here and I think we do about 10.

TheChosenTwo · 07/11/2022 09:37

I do about 10 a week. Well dd does her own but on average we do about 10 per week.
one wash a day plus extras for things like bedding, towels and random things like muddy coats etc.
It used to be a lot more but one dd left home plus I also now wfh a lot of the time so just rewear things a lot! In my previous job it wasn’t possible to rewear clothes because they used to get dirty every day.

2 adults, 3 loads, dc do their own if home, one per week, not known for frequent bed sheet changes

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/11/2022 09:38

2 adults 2 teens

I think about 9 loads

2x bed linen
1x towels
2x darks
1x colours
1x whites
1x delicates
1x DH cycling kit

Occasionally, an extra load here or there.

ANiceCupofTeaandaScone · 07/11/2022 09:38

Posted too soon,

2 loads - sofa covers or bed sheets (40c, 1hr)

champagneplanet · 07/11/2022 09:40

2 adults and 2DCs - 4 clothes, 1 towels and 1 DH work PPE (dirty), and then 2 loads of bedding every other week. Do on average 6/7.

15 is a lot, how do you manage to get it dry? Are you wearing once and then washing? Do you do dirty jobs?

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 07/11/2022 09:47

Thats seems very excessive!! What are you washing?!

for us:
Each adult 1 wash a week of clothes - 2
Bedding wash - 1
Towel wash - 1
Baby clothes wash - 1
5yo clothes wash - 1

So total 6, maybe 1 or 2 extra a week at a push

Hugasauras · 07/11/2022 09:49

Maybe 7? Two adults, one 3yo and one very pukey 4mo. 8 /9 if we are changing beds.

Hugasauras · 07/11/2022 09:50

Oh and a cat and dog so a couple of throws in there too.

mynameiscalypso · 07/11/2022 09:52

2 adults and a 3 year old here. I'd say we do 5 a week (1 x towels, 1 x sheets, 1 x whites, 1 x darks, 1 x delicates).

GrandOleOpryNights · 07/11/2022 09:52

At least 2 loads a day, sometimes 3. There’s 4 of us and 2 dogs, sometimes foster dogs.

The 4 of us workout or do a sport most days, dog bedding gets washed every other day. It soon adds up.

Lemevoir · 07/11/2022 10:00

Probably 5 or 6 loads each week. Two adult, one pre-teen. 9kg drum capacity.

I'm wondering how on earth you get 14-18 wash loads dry, unless each load is quite small and/or it is mostly tumble dried.

I find it's the getting stuff dry that determines how much washing I can do, rather than how much is in the dirty clothes basket.

chocolateoranges33 · 07/11/2022 10:02

I do about 10 per week. Thats with 2 adults, 2 late teens (both have part time jobs in fast food so have to wash dirty work uniforms at least twice per week each) and one aged 4.

I love doing laundry (strange I know) but even I would say what you are doing is too much!

2pinkginsplease · 07/11/2022 10:05

4 adults I tend to do 8 washes a week.

garlictwist · 07/11/2022 10:06

Family of three here. I do two loads of washing a week, plus usually a third for the bedding.

Never separate whites and coloureds or anything, it all just goes in together.

Lcb123 · 07/11/2022 10:08

That seems a lot. Two adults, probably 2-3 loads a week (incl one bedding). Pretty careful to wear trousers, jumpers etc multiple time especially if only at home (both WFH)

Stag82 · 07/11/2022 10:08

Blended family of 7. So pretty much equivalent to a family of 5 plus a little extra.

We do about 7 washes a week. I have two footballers and I think that adds an extra wash or two!

howaboutchocolate · 07/11/2022 10:12

2 adults and a toddler. Probably 2 dark washes, 1 lights, 1 towels, 1 bedding or other household stuff a week. Then occasionally a wool wash. So 5/6 a week.

I think that's a lot and I'd like to get it down to 1 dark wash but the toddler has other ideas.

drV · 07/11/2022 10:16

2 adults at home.. 5-6 washes a week including the bedding sets and towels.. but I do send formal shirts, trousers and dresses to the launderette as I am unable to do ironing at the moment!

HuntingoftheSnark · 07/11/2022 10:20

Two adults, two loads per week. I throw everything in together though.

Nw22 · 07/11/2022 10:27

2 adults and I do max 3 washes a week

DoubleShotEspresso · 07/11/2022 10:29

Two adults and a child here.

I do a minimum of 2 or 3 loads a day here.
Totally cleared all laundry Friday evening and by Sunday morning was a bit Confused to find another 4 loads to do....
I'd say a very minimum of 15 loads per week, sometimes 20.

BamBamBilla · 07/11/2022 10:32

2 adults.
4 sometimes 5 loads a week.
1 load each for our clothes, then a towels load and a bed sheets load. Plus an extra load like blankets or cushion covers, cat bed etc.

ifonly4 · 07/11/2022 10:32

When it was three of us, I'd probably do 4-5 x weekly.

Now just two of us, we're trying the wear the odd thing a bit longer and limit to 2x weekly.
