Why does my steak look like this?

Rump, grilled as I always do my steaks.

I usually have sirloin but they were out so got rump instead.

It looks extremely 'wrinkly' to me.

Is this standard for rump?

It looks dry and over cooked? Did you cut it like that before you cooked it?

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/10/2022 20:36

It’s just overbooked. How did you cook it?

Ilikemyteastrong · 24/10/2022 20:36

I do like my steak well done but even so they never have that texture, I've had more 'well' done steaks before too.

I sliced it after cooking.

Under the grill as I usually do

I think it needed a little more moisture and resting.

Sago1 · 24/10/2022 20:37

It looks as though it was cooked too long and too low.
Steak should be cooked quickly at high temp.

gamerchick · 24/10/2022 20:38

Looks edible. Apart from it looks like a cooked hand

Hexenjagd · 24/10/2022 20:38

youve cut it before you rested it and let all the moisture out. That’s why it looks like a dried up reservoir.

DeliberatelyObtuse · 24/10/2022 20:39

It's a monkey's hand, not a steak

They are notoriously tough and dry (they don't use hand cream)

😂 I said to DH it reminds me of a human hand

Ahhhhh this makes sense..

It's over cooked, and with not enough fat. Rest it.

Arguably, don't bother with any cut of steak if you're going to have it well done, have a pork chop. Cheaper and it won't be thoroughly ruined.

greenacrylicpaint · 24/10/2022 20:42

too low temperature.

pan as hot as it goes with fat/oil that's suitable for high heat (ghee is good).

usually package says a time how long to cook but usually I cook it for about 4 min each side, then rest. a little longer each side if the steak is particularly thick.

rest covered (I use a pyrex dish with lid)

only ever season after cooking

I'm not a fan of pork and can't bare rare meat.

I’m not going to lie that looks really bad. It’s over cooked and dry that’s why it looks all wrinkled, it’s dried out totally. It’s also cut weird.

booboo82 · 24/10/2022 20:43

You've killed it 🤦‍♀️

Yeah but there’s a mid point between rare and over cooked.

WingBingo · 24/10/2022 20:45

Sacrilege 😁

But I like it 'overcooked'

Just not wrinkly.

AriettyHomily · 24/10/2022 20:46

Overcooked. It looks like a chimpanzee's hand! Do you normally cut your steak like that?!

Ditch the grill and fry it next time.

Summersdreaming · 24/10/2022 20:46

It's protesting at being grilled to death then cut up and drained of any chance of moisture or flavour 😂you may as well slow cook a flip flop.
