Why does my steak look like this?

Rump, grilled as I always do my steaks.

I usually have sirloin but they were out so got rump instead.

It looks extremely 'wrinkly' to me.

Is this standard for rump?

OP that picture of what it should look like proper ended me 😂 You should send the two contrasting photos to buzzfeed or something. The pp who suggested slicing it and cooking it in a sauce is right though - it'll make it softer and bring out the flavour.

(Just make sure you use actual dairy cream and not aveeno.)

Coming from a butcher family that is a very sad picture. Cooked all the money out of that.

There, now it looks better.

Rump has quite a lot of flavour but very little fat (less than sirloin) so it’s not really suited to being cooked past medium. By cutting it you have let all the steak juices run out and made the meat even drier. Rump is better suited to flash frying or on a very hot (bbq type) grill.

Rump is a horrible cut of meat that always comes out like an old shoe. Any other cut would have been better.
