Why does my steak look like this?

Rump, grilled as I always do my steaks.

I usually have sirloin but they were out so got rump instead.

It looks extremely 'wrinkly' to me.

Is this standard for rump?

If it starts to fade just use the OP picture as an aide-memoire.

I use a sous vide to cook steak, and pretty much all of my meat, fish and eggs. You can set it to whatever doneness you like then take it out of the bag, pat it dry and frazzle the outside in a pan/bbq to how crusty you like it.
It's never overcooked and never dry as all the juices are sealed in a bag. Plus you can use them later to make a sauce for the meat.
They're not cheap but they make cooking expensive meat foolproof.
Have a look at the anova website if you're interested. They generally do good deals around black friday too.

Why on earth would you grill a steak? 😭 Smoking hot frying pan required then resting essential

You need it to harden quickly on the outside to seal in the moisture (even if you insist on overcooking to well done). Otherwise you get this boot leather
