Why does my steak look like this?

Rump, grilled as I always do my steaks.

I usually have sirloin but they were out so got rump instead.

It looks extremely 'wrinkly' to me.

Is this standard for rump?

The longer I look at it the funnier it gets 🤣

sorry op!

Get a skillet pan, sear it on both sides for a minute with oil, butter and seasoning then wrap it in foil and put it in the oven I too it’s cooked in the middle how you like it. It will rest in the foil and carry on slowly cooking. This is how I used to do it in restaurants and how I do it at home and I have never had a steak sent back to me!

Steak hand.

Poor steak Grin

You really killed it

Did not sear it...

Overcooked it...

Randomly cut
Into it so all th juices ran out...

I bet you cooked it straight out of the fridge as well. And did not season it. Then wonder why it is rubbish

Sorry Grin

ODFOx · 24/10/2022 21:40

Slice it as thinly as possible.
Fry some sliced onions and mushrooms in a pan. When cooked add salt and pepper, a shot of brandy (boil off the alcohol) a spoon of mustard and a good glug of cream/sour cream/even yogurt in emergency. Add the slivers of monkeys paw into the sauce. Warm through. Serve with the hello fresh accompaniments.

ODFOx · 24/10/2022 21:41

.....and never pick steak again.

I've had a laughing fit reading these comments and I had a face like a slapped arse before I posted so thanks for that 😂

Tips for cooking steak duly noted, thanks for those.

I have an induction hob and don't think skillets are compatible are they?

You don’t happen to have a loved one who died in an industrial accident that you wish was alive do you?

Why does my steak look like this?

Yes cast iron skillets work on induction as long as you get one with a smooth flat bottom. I have a cast iron griddle and place it across 2 induction rings both turned on and it works an absolute treat.

PieonaBarm · 24/10/2022 22:15

I've a friend whose from a farming family who says "don't buy rump, it's arse"

I've not bought rump since.

notprincehamlet · 24/10/2022 22:17

And next time you buy rump steak, ask the butcher to take the fingers off for you

I can't stop giggling at this. Like properly snorty chortling giggles

Begoniasforever · 24/10/2022 22:25

I can’t lie, I keep looking at it and snorting with laughter, it’s probably the worst cut steak I’ve had the memorable privilege to see 🤣

Angrymum22 · 24/10/2022 22:28

If you like steak well done then try braising it in a wine and stock liquid. Slow cook for a couple of hours then reheat the following day. It will be tender and moist with a beautiful red used sauce.
im not a fan of rump, it can be a little tough fried or grilled so I always braise it.
I like my steak blue so rump is never a good choice.

SirMoose · 24/10/2022 22:31

If you like rump, sainsburys do a big daddy rump which is actually really good (if it’s cooked properly!)

Bettyboop3 · 24/10/2022 22:32

It looks what it is, a piece of dead animal.

notprincehamlet · 24/10/2022 22:33

It looks like it would pinch your chips

WeepingSomnambulist · 24/10/2022 22:37

At least you fully committed and went for 5 fingers.

I know you were aiming for slices like the picture but you properly just went for a hand.

EnalaGoya · 24/10/2022 22:42

I'm going to make a Netflix show about this. Woman kills her husband, cuts off his hand, grills it and then posts a picture of it on mumsnet. HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT.

Hilly17 · 24/10/2022 22:44

I'm in stitches reading this thread!

LostMyUserName · 24/10/2022 22:44

Hand carved 😂

pinkpotatoez · 24/10/2022 22:46

Why did u cut it like fingers😂

EnalaGoya · 24/10/2022 22:48

Finger food
