Hope Sunak has a better effect on HMK than Truss on HMQ

Me too. Lizzie killed the Queen was one of the best tweets ever.

WildRosie · 24/10/2022 17:20

I'd like to imagine King Charles greeting Rishi Sunak tomorrow, all dressed up in ermine robe, big blingy crown and with the orb and sceptre, just as a reminder to the new PM who the real chief is😉.

It looks all weird:- HMK

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 17:43

That speech was quite Trussesque.

It wasn't much different to Ms Truss
He will still do the tax cuts just before an election I suppose
It'll just take longer to get there

WildRosie · 24/10/2022 18:01

Just as an aside, does anyone know the protocol for the monarch to receive a new PM with the intention of forming a government? I imagine it would be a case of the Cabinet Secretary telephoning Buckingham Palace - perhaps the King's Private Secretary - and basically making an appointment.

tobee · 24/10/2022 18:08

That was what we thought re Truss resigning. But who knows? I expect someone's written about it somewhere.

tobee · 24/10/2022 18:10

Unless the Palace rings and says "come tomorrow". The daresay in practice that they are continually in contact. To arrange the weekly audience, to invite PM to Balmoral etc

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 18:15

It was reported earler that Charles was returning to London today, guess it could happen tonight if they wanted it to.

Yeah I saw something about that @DuncinToffee . Also speculation that Sunak might want to do it in daylight 🤷🏻‍♀️

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 18:27

Oh yes, I remember that daylight comment now, it was a strange thing to say, blackouts aren't happening yet Grin

Is that because it’s Diwali?

WildRosie · 24/10/2022 18:32

Once Rishi Sunak arrives at Number 10, his first job is to write the Letters of Last Resort to be placed in our fleet of Trident submarines. How these letters reach those submarines currently patrolling the seas, I don't know!

Notonthestairs · 24/10/2022 18:42

Truss chairs Cabinet tomorrow morning before giving a farewell statement. She'll then head off to the Palace.

The statement I sort of understand. Chairing Cabinet I don't.

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 18:50

Lewis Goodall

NEW: Confirmation that Rishi Sunak will become Prime Minister tomorrow morning.

Liz Truss will resign to King Charles and Sunak will be appointed a short time afterwards. First remarks in Downing St expected around 1130.

Poor big doggie

Iain Duncan Smith tells @AndrewMarr9 show that Boris Johnson “made no plans….had no team. He kind of expected I think when he arrived that there would be at least 150 claiming him...suddenly they find themselves struggling and begging people for votes. That was demeaning.”

This fits with what we know of his nature.

Saucery · 24/10/2022 19:03

Nice bit of knife work from IDS there Grin

Fits doesn’t it. A lot has happened in the time he’s been away. Took his finger off the pulse.

tobee · 24/10/2022 19:38

I haven't much hope that Truss and Johnson will reflect & learn. It's the whole make up of their characters.

tobee · 24/10/2022 19:39

Do they usually have this ginormous number of people on to pontificate? I suppose it's easier now that they don't have to come to the news studios as everyone is zoom savvy.

Good point

itsgettingweird · 24/10/2022 19:45

It'll be interesting if Rishi continue his wooden delivery.

I do t mind it because we need calm clear and stable.

But what the media pull Starmer up on is his woodeness and calm him boring.

If it's like for like it'll be harder to use that against him!

That was my first thought 🤣🤣
