Watching the MPs all standing around getting ready for a photo with the sound down. Taking aaaaaaggges. So many faces you normally barely see. Some looking jolly. Some glum. Some bored. Must be extremely boring and legs must be aching

tobee · 24/10/2022 15:36

It is a bit weird that Sunak's barely said a word to anyone in the outside world.

tobee · 24/10/2022 15:37

Ohhh of course it's for welcoming Sunak.

"Hooray! We've always loved you!"

Maybe Sunak is just really shy

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 15:48

A bit of good news

Right now, this is/should be the biggest story in Europe.

The price of natural gas is falling very fast again, thanks to growing stockpiles & expectations of warmer weather.

If this sustains, then electricity prices & inflation should fall quickly too

Someone text into BBC silent earlier.

"Southampton beats Portsmouth again" 🤣

tobee · 24/10/2022 16:06

Ooh! That's close to the bone!

(Some of Dh family from Portsmouth)

RagzRebooted · 24/10/2022 16:12

Speech was a bit wooden. I suppose we will hear a bit more from Sunak after he is officially declared PM.

tobee · 24/10/2022 16:20

Wooden a contrast to Johnson.

DuncinToffee · 24/10/2022 16:20

I haven't watched it but the reactions on twitter are very much 'that was weird'

So am I Grin

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2022 16:28

I'm prepared to give him a chance
I loath the conservatives and want a GE , but it is what it is :(
I might change my mind in a few days though
He is a bit wooden with his speeches

tobee · 24/10/2022 16:37

I wasn't watching at the time but caught a bit of a replay with sound down. Why was he looking off to the side slightly?

Autocue

Saucery · 24/10/2022 16:42

He is a bit wooden with his speeches
Next to Truss he looks positively verbose and flowing.

tobee · 24/10/2022 16:47

I thought they have autocue on the camera? Usually people talk to camera in situations like that. Although quite a few documentary type shows have people talking off to the side. I suppose it's meant to look less confrontational or less didactic but it just looks odd.

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2022 16:48

I wasn't being horrible about his delivery : he just sounds a bit stoic , but yes, he is better at speaking than Liz truss

tobee · 24/10/2022 16:49

Talking to camera = sincerity

Or

Talking to camera = patronising

I'm sure most MPs, ministers etc have some sort of media training these days

How's he rate next to Johnson? 🤔

Sorry, I wasn’t pulling you up on it, if it came across that way. Truss’s voice and delivery was like nails on a blackboard to me, anyone is an improvement. Grin
Sunak reminds me mostly of Will from The Inbetweeners. I fondly imagined him stating a flat “Brilliant” at being beaten by Truss in the first place.

Saucery · 24/10/2022 16:54

Johnson was unlistenable. No train of thought left on its tracks long enough to form a coherent sentence.

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2022 16:54

Boris Johnson was much more bluster with his speeches.

RagzRebooted · 24/10/2022 16:55

tobee · 24/10/2022 16:20

Wooden a contrast to Johnson.

Well, yes. Or contrasted to Truss' rabbit in the headlights gormlessness.

Clearly hadn't had time to read his speech before he read it. So did quite well considering. Like I said, we will probably hear a bit more after he's actually sworn in or whatever they do tomorrow.

I just want it all to be over and them to get on with actually governing, for a change. If we could have a few months of stability, that would be nice. I'd quite like the new PM to be as boring as possible, actually.

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2022 16:56

No, I know!! I couldn't do public speaking either
I don't like what the conservatives have done here , but I wish him luck and have to see how it pans out. It will be austerity Mark 2 and that worries me

tobee · 24/10/2022 17:11

The King's first time to invite anyone to form a government
